AT&T to Release LG G3 and G Watch on July 11

AT&T is releasing the LG G3 smartphone and G Watch at retail locations this week on Friday, July 11. The G3 is the latest from LG’s premier G line of smartphones, while the G Watch is the company’s first smartwatch and one of the first smartwatches that consumers will be able to purchase from a major manufacturer.

LG G3 Builds off of the G2’s Success

The G3 has already been met with rave reviews by a number of trustworthy technology publications, which comes as no surprise considering its predecessor. The G2 was an impressive smartphone that was powerful, felt good in the hand, and provided top-of-the-line features, though the software and camera were both lackluster.

The G3 is one of the larger phones available today. Its 5.5-inch screen is significantly larger than the 5.1-inch and 5.0-inch displays on the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8, respectively. The G3 also boasts a 13 megapixel camera that can shoot 4K video, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, and 3GB of RAM — that’s more powerful than the Chromebook 11. The phone also includes one of the first displays that packs more pixels in than a typical 1080p display, the norm for today’s smartphones. Instead it has a resolution of 2560 by 1440, which is more than most TV sets and computer monitors.

The competition for today’s top smartphone is now comprised of three main players: the Galaxy S5 (plus any of the available variants, like the Galaxy S5 Active), the HTC One M8, and now the LG G3. LG may be late to the party, though with summer in full swing, now is a great time to buy a new smartphone, unless you’re waiting for the new iPhone, which is expected to be released sometime in late September or October.

G Watch Hits the Mainstream Market

As for the G Watch, it’s LG’s first smartwatch that connects to any Android phone, providing additional functions for users without the need to access the phone directly. This is helpful for a number of reasons, as Google showed off two weeks ago at Google I/O, the company’s week-long developer conference. Features include Google Fit, Google Now (which includes search data, calendar information, traffic, and even things like boarding passes and movie tickets), and of course third-party apps. Gizmodo wrote about 11 functions that Google smartwatches already support, which means that you’ll be able to use the G Watch in plenty of ways right out of the box, especially since it’s one of the first smartwatches available for purchase direct from a retailer.

Both the G3 and G Watch will be available for pre-order starting July 8, and you can purchase them in any AT&T store or online starting July 11.
