The latest iOS app update for Yelp has introduced a major perk to users living in certain cities: they can now order food from over 100 restaurants from right inside the app, according to VentureBeat. Currently, delivery service is only available in San Francisco and New York, with the vision of rolling it out to new cities in the future.
Food Delivery Partnerships
The popular review site has created partnerships with pre-existing online ordering and delivery service websites, including delivery.com and Eat24. A user can search through review pages of restaurants offering in-app food delivery ordering or view the ordering option when visiting the restaurant’s business review page.
According to founder Jeremy Stoppelman at the recent MobileBeat 2013 conference, the site is continuing to focus on providing services and promotional resources to local businesses. It has developed different search parameters that display results based on a user’s location, allowing it to showcase newly opened businesses and places that are open at the time the user has opened the website or app.
Other recent features that the review site has recently rolled out (that go beyond its initial offering of user-generated business reviews) include the ability for businesses to offer custom coupons and deals on their Yelp review pages and through GPS-locating for the app’s users. Yelp also has an agreement with OpenTable, which allows users to make table reservations through a restaurant’s profile page.
Many sites like Delivery.com and OpenTable have eagerly agreed to partner up with the site due to its influence. Yelp regularly appears at the top of search results when users are searching for a specific business or business type within a certain geographical area, and the site has over 100 million unique visitors monthly as of January 2013, according to The Next Web. It made $137.6 million in 2012, which was up 65% from 2011, as reported by TechCrunch.
Traffic Equals Revenue
These massive traffic and revenue numbers have made the site one of the top online review sites for almost any business, from restaurants to nail salons. Since its founding in 2004 in San Francisco, it has gradually rolled out to almost all major cities around the United States and the world.
These new features on the website and in its mobile apps will continue to make Yelp appealing to both business owners and users alike, as it can promote businesses while also helping users find what they’re looking for more quickly and easily. As Yelp has continued to grow steadily since its inception, it will be no surprise if in-app online ordering becomes its latest success.
