Gazelle recently unveiled a new online storefront that allows consumers to purchase pre-owned iPhones, Samsung Galaxies and iPads, with no contracts to sign and no strings attached.
Though there are a number of options for purchasing pre-owned and refurbished smartphones and tablets online, Gazelle certified pre-owned devices go through a strict inspection process. For consumers looking to purchase a new device or replace an old one, but facing contract limitations preventing them from buying a new phone at their carrier’s rate, buying pre-owned can be a great option.
Why Buy Pre-Owned?
One of the biggest reasons that a consumer might elect to purchase a pre-owned device is to take advantage of a discounted rate without having to deal with contract restrictions.
“It’s helpful for customers to not constantly be tied into a contract, so they can make the best decisions for the phone that’s right for them,” Gazelle’s senior tech analyst Alyssa Voorhis said. “Today, people have to navigate this confusing world of upgrade charges, insurance plans, etc. Sometimes it’s just easier to not have to deal with that at all.”
For instance, if a user damages their phone before they are eligible for an “upgrade price” phone from their carrier, they can buy a certified pre-owned device and not worry about having to pay the full MSRP for a replacement from a carrier. Pre-owned devices may also appeal to consumers who do not wish to tie themselves to specific carriers through contracts.Voorhis said. “Today, people have to navigate this confusing world of upgrade charges, insurance plans, etc. Sometimes it’s just easier to not have to deal with that at all.”
Inspection and Guarantee
Devices purchased from the Gazelle certified pre-owned program have gone through a rigorous 30-point inspection, which is far more thorough than the industry standard.
Voorhis assures consumers that, “We check all sorts of things that wouldn’t necessarily be checked if the user was getting a replacement from an insurance company or a seller overseas; every feature of the device is checked.”
SlashGear offers a visual breakdown of the inspection process, which includes checking for cosmetic issues as well as conducting functionality tests. In addition to the inspection, Gazelle offers a 30-day guarantee for all of its pre-owned devices. If something goes wrong, users can exchange it or get their money back. This gives Gazelle an edge over online retailers and auction sites, which often sell pre-owned devices “as is” and offer no guarantees with respect to quality or usability.
Devices from most major carriers are available now from Gazelle’s online store. Have you ever thought about purchasing a pre-owned phone?
