Sony has just introduced two new attachable lenses designed to work with smartphone cameras, the Sony cybershot DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100. The units look very similar to a small DSLR lens that features a large sensor, optical zoom, HD video recording and Carl Zeiss lens. The QX10 and QX100 work with both Android and iOS phones.<\/p>\n

Sony’s new lenses just clip onto a phone while communicating through WiFi or NFC. Both lenses can also be used unmounted to the phone as a portable type of “accessory camera”. To mount the device each unit features a spring-loaded holder which supports the iPhone<\/a> and various Android devices like the Sony Xperia Z and Galaxy S4<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The QX10 has an 18.9-megapixel camera with a 1\/2.3″ (7.76mm) Exmor R CMOS sensor. The QX100 has 20.9-megapixels with 1-inch (13.2×8.8mm) Exmor R CMOS, 3.6x optical zoom, F1.8-4.9, and 10.4-37.1mm. Both units have their own battery power and removable storage.<\/p>\n

These cool little cameras don’t come cheap. The QX10 will be sold for about $248 and will be offered in both white and black color options. The higher-end QX100, it will retail for $498 and be offered in the same white and black colors. The Sony cybershot QX100 and QX10 will both ship on September 25th at various retailers around the US.<\/p>\n
