The Samsung Galaxy S5 firmware update released last week promises to fix the camera speed issues that many users have found with the flagship phone. Sammobile<\/a> reports that other features, like the fingerprint scanner, will also benefit from the upgrade.<\/p>\n

Camera Speed, Gallery Speed Improved<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Samsung Galaxy S5<\/a> firmware update will improve the opening speed of the S5’s camera as well as the opening speed of the camera gallery. NDTV Gadgets<\/a> reports that this will materially improve the user experience of the camera app, especially considering the 0.3-second autofocus speed that the camera currently boasts.<\/p>\n

The update also improves the speed and accuracy of the handset’s fingerprint scanner, which is good news for those users who had reported issues with this feature upon its release in February. Additionally, RAM management and overall performance speed is improved with the new update.<\/p>\n

Update Unrelated to Camera Problems that Plagued S5 Launch<\/strong><\/p>\n

The update will not be useful for those customers who experienced the camera bug that nearly delayed the launch of the S5. The bug, which reportedly gave a “Camera Failed” error message before shutting down the handset, was isolated to a small number of units. The Financial Express cited a Samsung statement that claimed “the issue has been seen in a very limited portion of early production Galaxy S5 units and was caused by complications in the ROM (Read Only Memory) component, which stores the information necessary to operate the camera.” Users experiencing this problem shouldn’t wait for an update for a fix: Samsung is reportedly replacing these handsets instead.<\/p>\n

Samsung Galaxy S5 Firmware Update Currently Available in UK<\/strong><\/p>\n

The firmware update was released first in the UK under the name G900FXXU1ANE2 and is expected to reach other regions within the next few days. The update is available as a patch downloadable via OTA or through the device’s Kies menu; users who don’t want to wait for the update to become available can manually download it from Sammobile. Samsung also announced an update for its Knox security software last week, which should be available within the next few months, according to NDTV Gadgets. That update will cover a range of core security upgrades, including issues relating to third-party apps.<\/p>\n
