The Nexus 5 is Google’s current-generation smartphone, built by LG but sold exclusively by Google.

Users who have successfully replaced their broken phones report that Google charges the full price of the device until it receives the broken one in the mail. Upon receiving the dud Nexus 5, the sender is refunded fully. This means that if the phone is broken but still functional, users can effectively order a replacement, switch the SIM card when it arrives, and mail the broken one out without giving up phone service. Very convenient.

One-Time Offer

Gizmodo reports that Google calls this a “special exception,” and the company may be replacing Nexus 5 units to clear out its own stockpile in preparation for the next iteration of the company’s “Google Phone.” The Nexus 5 was released last October, but so far the company has not revealed anything except for Android L, the upcoming operating system update for Android.

This replacement deal is only available in the United States for users who purchased their phone through the Google Play Store, though it is unclear whether the user needed to have purchased the phone in the country as well. Users who have a broken Nexus 5 should call Google at 855-836-3987 for a replacement.

However, users shouldn’t expect to get away with more than one replacement device. This deal is a one-time offer, and Google does reserve the right to turn anyone away. If you’re a developer with more than one broken Nexus 5, don’t expect to get multiple free replacements.

Do you plan to take advantage of this one-time offer?

Image
