A recent study shows that not only is the latest iPhone 5s not the most used model, but that it isn’t by any means close to being top dog, Localytics reports. Instead, the iPhone 5<\/a>, which was released nearly two years ago, is the most-used model; 27 percent of the iOS handset market is using the 5. Its “s” successor has a 25-percent market share, followed very closely by the older 4s with 21 percent, and the nearly four-year-old iPhone 4 with 13 percent. Apple is expected to announce its newest model today.<\/p>\n

The 5c, the less-expensive counterpart of the 5s, accounts for only 8 percent. Although Apple stopped selling the iPhone 5 after the release of the 5c, the fifth generation still managed to outsell all other devices, which the company still manufactures.<\/p>\n

Older iPads Also Holding Steady<\/strong><\/p>\n

The trend is similar for the iPad: the iPad 2 holds the majority at 29 percent. The various other models have a fairly even rundown. Of all available iPad models, the iPad 2 has been on the market the longest\u2014three and a half years.<\/p>\n

Although this may signal a hesitation among users to upgrade early, it also proves that the upcoming iPhone 6 announcement and release will be a huge opportunity for the company. With rumors circling around a new payment platform, a larger frame, and of course a new processor, among other components, Apple has a huge incentive to get owners of those older devices to upgrade.<\/p>\n
