Rousseau wants a revolution; and that's to dramatically change consumers' end-of-use habits and to make Gazelle into a verb. As Gazelle's founder and the face of the Company, he plots the course and thinks the "thinks" that take it to new places. A serial entrepreneur with expertise in business development and technology applications, Rousseau has won Ziff Davis' "Sm@rt 50" and "Sm@rt 100" awards numerous times. Earlier in his career, he held senior positions at Signiant, State Street Bank, Teradyne, and was the co-founder of Internet consultancy Cambridge Information Systems. He is an avid Internet & media consumer, and his experience with the frictions & challenges of peer-to-peer online marketplaces was an inspiration for Gazelle. Originally from Haiti, Rousseau is a master in the kitchen, a dedicated family man, and a highly overrated ping-pong player. Rousseau's favorite gadget: iPhone 8GB (a real classic).
Israel's the stoic general, firmly holding the reins of Gazelle's daily execution and hell-bent on writing a west coast-style success story on the east coast. His devotion to instilling a metric-based culture continually inspires the Company's operations to be fine-tuned and focused. Israel's background is seasoned over 19 years in e-commerce and offline retail. Israel spent six years at eBay and PayPal, where he was instrumental in the company's international expansion in Europe, Latin America and Asia. Israel also served as Director of Finance & Operations at eBay UK Ltd., where he helped scale the local business to $300 million. He started his career as a retail analyst with Goldman Sachs, and he holds an MBA from Harvard and a BS from NYU's Stern School where he graduated summa cum laude. Israel's favorite gadget: 3G iPhone.
James jams. Once the lead guitarist in the Boston-based rock band Scatterfield, James heads Gazelle's cutting-edge development team. His over 20 years of large-scale development have primed him to stir Gazelle's secret sauce, its dynamic pricing engine. Previously, James co-founded Boston Compliance Systems, which he later sold to Thomson Financial, and has co-authored a patent on large-scale audio and video storage and distribution. A WPI grad, James began his career at Teradyne and consulted on software projects delivered to companies such as MediaOne, Fidelity Investments, BBN, and the Federal Aviation Administration. James' favorite gadget: Etherwave Signature Theremin (signed by Bob Moog)... not a category Gazelle currently serves but too cool to exclude.
Ed's not a finance guy... but he is. "Gazelle's such a simple concept and makes so much sense... but it'll take a lifetime to master... in that way it's like Othello," is Ed's reply to why he Gazelles. Ed is the Company's financial conscience, and he also owns human resources, administration and assists with general strategy. He's a Georgetown grad and his 10+ years of experience include audit with Ernst & Young, investment banking, and financial leadership at GetConnected. He's a CPA and holds the CFA charter, but when not adding stuff, he's breaking ankles (or his own) on local basketball courts, swinging the golf club, or working on his place in Boston's North End. Ed's favorite gadget: Blackberry 8800.
When not snacking on the best apples and peanut butter that organic money can buy, Dan masterminds Gazelle's marketing edge. He prides himself on attracting and measuring existing and potential customers, devoted to expanding the Company's marketing portfolio in creative, cost-effective ways. Dan's mastery of that craft most recently developed at BuyerZone.com, where he ran search engine marketing, and he has held other posts with Ford Motor Company, New Balance, and Liberty Mutual. Dan earned an MBA from MIT Sloan and a BA in Quantitative Economics from Tufts University. He's a proud Vermonter, an avid basketball player, and a long-suffering Buffalo Bills & Scott Norwood fan. Dan's favorite gadget: Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 Waterproof Digital Camcorder.
"Everyone gets to go home happy," quips Thos on why Gazelle makes sense. Evangelizing, "dissatisfaction with the status quo drives me to create a consumer experience that helps people achieve things they'd never thought of... in ways they hadn't thought possible." To achieve this, Thos drives the experience's evolution, ever striving to make every customer a promoter. Thos' accomplished this in the past at Firstgiving before that he caught the start-up bug at Fairmarket. His alma mater is Emerson College (just like Fonzie), and his passion – beyond argyle socks and his family – is strong, strong black coffee. Thos' favorite gadget: Flip Video Ultra.
Dan's the prodigy, youthfully running Gazelle's day-to-day technical execution. What makes Dan tick is not only creating world-class software but also streamlining the process by which it's produced. Expanding, "my goal is to help build one of the best products on the web and to foster a team of individuals that are not only masters of their trade, but well-rounded professionals that can make business dreams a reality." Dan's done stints leading development at FrightCatalog.com, working with the Norfolk County Sheriff's department, and he's the Principal of Enlight Solutions. His alma mater is WPI, where he complemented all the computer stuff with studies in entrepreneurship. Away from the terminal, Dan's an avid hockey player and drummer... though he rarely does them at the same time anymore. Dan's favorite gadget: MacBook Pro.
Patti's about creating miles of smiles. Her role is to ensure that Gazelle's mantra of easy, fast, and most trusted resonates from the customer's perspective. Patti touches all facets of the business to ensure this, managing the Company's traditional customer care solutions while also owning execution in customer acquisition and efficiencies. Her experience is littered with performance-based accolades at organizations like Sprint PCS, Pro-Teck Valuation, Paramount Lending, and Shop at Home. Away from the office, Patti's volunteer work – particularly around minorities' rights – is as impressive as her career accomplishments. Most notably, Patti helped in passing the first gay/lesbian/transgendered rights bill in CT. Patti's favorite gadget: Blackberry Curve.
Yuri's the silent assassin. Gazelle's chief capitalist, Yuri's responsible for re-selling the products the Company buys, and he does so with steely efficiency. He has over 10 years of experience selling on eBay, one of the Company's primary resale channels, and he previously managed the merchandising operations for NextWorth Solutions. Hailing from the Ukraine, Yuri attended university abroad as well as at Case Western Reserve. Outside of Gazelle, he has raised funds for charity by re-selling high-value, donated items, and – similar to his daily execution - he plays table tennis like there's ice water in his veins. Yuri's favorite gadget: iPhone 8GB.
Rick is the drill sergeant. Asked about Gazelle's appeal, he simply smirks, as he's no time for Jack Handy-esque thoughts not dedicated to moving products in the door and then back out again. Rick's in-house passion is doing it faster, better, and preparing Gazelle to do it more often with the same level of quality. His time doing same at McKesson Medical prepared him well, and he's also run customer care groups, both at McKesson and Tufts. When not enabling Gazelle, he's die-hard for the Red Sox and tearing up the roads on one of his two Honda bikes (an '87 SuperMagna and a '00 Valkyrie). Rick's favorite gadget: 30GB Video iPod.
