Summer is drawing to a close and school is just around the corner. Here are the best back-to-school apps and gadgets to give parents peace of mind.

As summer draws to a close, back-to-school preparedness is foremost on the minds of parents and students alike. Here are the best back-to-school apps and gadgets to give Mom and Dad some peace of mind.

Ignore No More (Free, Android)

When her teenage son would not answer her calls one day, Texas mom Sharon Standifird became fed up and immediately began researching how to make apps. A short time later, Ignore No More was born. This little virtual slap on the wrist can be installed on a child’s mobile phone to grant Mom or Dad the power to lock the device remotely until the unresponsive youth gives them a call. Parents can even change the password from afar.

Brain Sentry Impact Sensors ($75)

Brain Sentry impact sensors are small, plastic devices—about the length of the average USB thumb drive—that can be attached to a child’s sports gear. The sensors will blink and flash red when players bear the brunt of a heavy impact, and they can help coaches, parents, and on-site medical personnel better detect early warning signs that a head trauma or other injury has occurred.

Walking School Bus App (Free, Android and iOS)

Walking School Bus is a safety app for kids walking to school. Parents sign up for the program, and once they’re approved, the app serves as a way for parents to monitor the “bus,” which is essentially a group of school children being chaperoned by another approved parent. Chaperone rotations can be set up just like a carpool, the app assists parents in planning and sharing information. According to ABC 4 Utah, one satisfied parent said, “It has a feature that does give me piece of mind which is when the kids get to school you can alert the other parents and let them know that they are safe.”
