Samsung has something new for customers using tablets on the jobsite: The new Galaxy Tab Active is a rugged, weather-resistant alternative computing device for businesses. SamMobile spotted the device and describes it as “a tablet that comes with IP67 certification for water resistance and an anti-shock covering that can withstand a 1.2-meter drop.” The device comes with its own rubberized protective cover.

Specifications

The new fortified tablet will ship with Android KitKat 4.4. Samsung is also including a new stylus with the device, which the company is calling the C Pen—not be confused with the two-sided Cross Ballpoint C Pen stylus reported on earlier this week. The stylus could benefit workers who are required to wear gloves and are unable to use the typical touch screen input, according to SamMobile.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active features an 8-inch WXGA display capable of 1280 by 800 resolution, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. The tablet boasts 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, though the included MicroSD card slot allows for storage expansion. The device has a 3.1-megapixel camera for snapping off a few quick shots. However, the larger 4450mAh battery should meet the needs of business users that require more mobility, reportedly offering 8–10 hours of general use.

NFC Capabilities

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active also offers a Near Field Communication (NFC) connectivity option. This could be aggressively marketed to logistics managers for transportation, SamMobile mentions. A more durable design makes it a solid companion for automotive workers and others in industrial manufacturing positions.

The device will be available in both Wi-Fi and LTE versions later this year. Samsung has not yet released pricing details. The tablet will only be available in titanium green, available direct from Samsung.

Can the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active help improve your business?
