Starbucks App Update: Smart Device Pre-Orders Eliminates Waiting in Line

Say good-bye to being late for work all because of the long line at the cafe. Now, Starbucks is updating its app to include a pre-order option.

Say good-bye to being late for work because of a long line at the café. Now, “There’s an app for that.” Starbucks is updating its handy Starbucks App to include pre-ordering directly from customers’ smartphones, which will give patrons near-VIP status and allow them to bypass long lines and wait times.

What’s New

According to TechnoBuffalo, the app will need access to GPS on the user’s mobile device. After GPS is enabled, users “can then hit the Order option to pick out drinks and food, and select a nearby store from a list of participating locations along with approximate wait times.” This test phase is limited to Portland, Oregon, with the promise of a full deployment scheduled for sometime in 2015.

And as if that’s not enough, Starbucks is reportedly planning to release a delivery option as well.

What’s Old

The Starbucks app is already equipped with a pre-payment option for users with a Starbucks My Loyalty Rewards account. But now, when users have finalized their pre-paid food or beverage order, they can dart over to their favorite Starbucks location and pick up their items and completely skip any long lines.

Other handy app features include account balance review, which allows users to stay updated of their current available funds. They can use the app to reload their card’s balance, check transaction history, and transfer balances between cards. Users can also leave a digital, remote gratuity on purchases made with their smart device at all U.S. Starbucks locations.

Have you tried the new Starbucks company app?
