Tinder may have popularized dating apps, but it no longer has a monopoly. Now, you have other options and no shortage of potential partners to meet – especially when Americans alone completed more than 36 million dating app downloads in a single year, according to mobile analytics provider data.ai. Whether you’re after a long-term relationship or something more casual, we’ve put together a list of the top online dating apps to help you find the right option for you.

The 10 Best Online Dating Apps for 2023

Plenty of dating apps have appeared in the last decade. It’s now less of a question of which app is the best for dating and more about which one is right for you.

Older platforms like eharmony and OkCupid have modernized themselves, and newer platforms like The League and Her offer more niche experiences for certain users. Below are some of the best free dating apps for 2026 to help you find love this year – or whatever it is you’re looking for.

1. Tinder

Tinder remains the most downloaded dating app in the world, racking up over 58 million downloads in 2023 alone. While its annual downloads are down more than a third from its 2014 peak, it still dominates the market by sheer reach – and according to Pew Research Center, 46% of U.S. online dating users have used it, more than any other app.

Tinder is geared toward a broad audience but tends to skew younger, and it’s almost entirely based on snap judgments. It focuses more on appearance and photos than prompts or personal information, and it doesn’t offer filtering based on details like height, education or religion. Still, it has handy features like profile verification, video chats and seeing who likes you.

If you want the largest possible pool of potential matches – whether for casual relationships or something more serious – Tinder delivers. You can use it online or through an iPhone or Android app.

2. Bumble

Bumble ranks among the top three most downloaded dating apps globally and remains one of the most widely used platforms in the United States, where 28% of online dating users report having tried it, according to Pew Research Center. It gained traction by flipping the script on typical first encounters, asking women to make the first move. Like many other online dating apps, it starts with swiping left and right on profiles you like or don’t like. If two people match, the woman has 24 hours to initiate a conversation. For same-sex relationships, anyone can start the chat.

Many people like Bumble for this woman-first approach. It takes some pressure off the guys and gives ladies more control. Bumble is also big on making online dating safer and more comfortable for everyone, with features like profile verification, robust dating tips and a zero-tolerance policy for unsolicited lewd photos.

The platform builds you a nicely rounded profile with badges to reflect your interests and prompts to help you share your authentic self. It also links with Instagram and Spotify, so you can start bonding over shared music tastes or photos. Like other dating apps, Bumble has a feature called Beeline, where you can see people who have already “liked” you.

Bumble is one of the best free dating apps out there, with just a few premium features you can opt-in for, like boosting your profile and sending a SuperSwipe. Bumble also offers Bumble BFF and Bumble Bizz, which can help you make friends or network. The app is available for free on Android and iPhone and through a web browser.

3. Hinge

Hinge takes a different approach that focuses on high-quality matches. It calls itself “the dating app designed to be deleted.” Hinge wants to get you into a long-term relationship, and it shows with its thorough approach to matchmaking. The app touts a Nobel-Prize-winning algorithm, a full research team and plenty of tools to help you break the ice and start meaningful conversations.

Hinge suggests particularly interesting profile prompts, offers up conversation starters and shows you who liked you. If you find someone you want to match with, you can select specific parts of their profile to like, such as a photo or a response to a prompt. This approach is great for jump-starting conversations. Hinge is also one of the more attractively designed apps, with a clean interface that’s not too cluttered or too simple.

Other unique features of Hinge include Roses, which you can send to show someone you’re extra interested, and Standouts, where Hinge highlights profiles it thinks are a great match for you. The app can also give you gentle nudges when it’s your turn to reply to someone.

You’ll get plenty of functionality in the free version of Hinge, but you can also upgrade to a preferred membership for more filtering options, the ability to see everyone who likes you at once and an unlimited number of likes per day. You can snag this free dating app for iPhone or Android.

4. OkCupid

OkCupid has been around for a while, and it’s a great choice if you’ve got some specific interests. This platform can get super niche. It has 22 gender and 20 sexual orientation options, so it works well for people who don’t fall under the limited boxes offered by other dating apps.

For instance, it’s one of the few apps that nicely supports non-monogamous relationships. Instead of awkward joint profiles, you both create your own profiles and link them up. Along with non-binary gender identities, you can also identify yourself with terms like butch or femme.

The dating platform gives you tons of keyword search options, in-depth personality quizzes and long-form profiles for making deeper connections. OkCupid lets you answer practically endless questions to improve your matches. You can hop on OkCupid from a web browser, as well as through the iPhone or Android apps.

5. Coffee Meets Bagel

Too busy for traditional dating? Burnt out from non-stop swiping? Try Coffee Meets Bagel. This dating app aims for meaningful matches. It sends you a selection of potential partners – called bagels – at noon each day. You can read through their profiles, use the app’s in-depth prompts and lean on personalized icebreakers to chat with them.

With a set number of matches each day, it’s a little easier to avoid getting sucked into an endless void of swiping. But if that’s your thing, you can also use the Discover feature for a more traditional swiping experience. Coffee Meets Bagel also has a feature called Skip the Line, so you can get yourself seen by the “bagels” you like sooner.

Coffee Meets Bagel is a great free app, but some features require “beans” to use, such as liking people in the Discover mode or turning on Read Receipts. You can get some beans for free or buy them with real currency. You can also get a Premium subscription that gives you some perks every month, like viewing everyone who likes you and getting discounts on beans.

Download the app on Android or iPhone.

6. eharmony

eharmony is another app geared toward long-term relationships. The sign-up process might start with a daunting compatibility quiz, but it promises quality matches and narrows down the field. If you don’t want to deal with sifting through bad matches or going on a lot of dates, eharmony might be a good pick, though it is more expensive than some other dating apps.

One unique feature of eharmony is its personality profiles, which emphasize learning more about yourself and what you really want in a relationship. It’ll also give you a compatibility score for each potential match.

The free version of eharmony limits the number of messages you can send. The premium app unlocks unlimited messaging, along with video chats, seeing people who viewed you and other features. You can use eharmony on a web browser, the iPhone app or the Android app.

7. HER

HER is an app designed for LGBTQ+ people and is one of the most inclusive dating apps you can get. It’s a favorite of lesbians, bisexual women and trans people, with plenty of ways to identify yourself and stay safe while dating online. HER even has tools to help people in different phases of their journey, like those who haven’t come out yet or are still discovering their interests. It also has a unique option that lets you go incognito, so other people can only see you if you like them first.

HER is free but has a premium option that gives you more filters, incognito mode, rewinds, ad-free matching and other features. You can download the app for Android or iPhone.

8. Grindr

Grindr is another app for the LGBTQ+ crowd. It tends to be focused on casual meetups, specifically for gay and bisexual men. The app itself is very minimalistic – it has profile pictures, usernames, basic questions and “tribes” that describe your style and match you with other users to start chatting. Grindr is also big on location, connecting you with people nearby.

Grindr lets you send photos, videos and voice messages, and you can control who shows up for you with tags and filters. It also has a worldwide feature called Explore that lets you see users across the globe.

This app has two paid options called Grindr XTRA and Grindr Unlimited. Grindr XTRA removes ads and offers additional features like Explore mode and read receipts. Grindr Unlimited is a higher tier that adds chat translation, message unsending, more filters and incognito mode, which makes you appear offline.

Download Grindr on iPhone or Android.

9. The League

If you’re looking for an exclusive dating app, The League is an invitation-only platform geared toward young professionals. It markets itself as an app for those with exacting standards or stricter requirements. The League promises to set you up with driven, successful people that meet your preferences. It vets all potential users to make sure they meet specific guidelines, so there’s usually a waiting period. It also rates people on flakiness – so no ghosting here!

Another interesting feature is Smart Blocking, which lets you stay hidden from people you have LinkedIn connections with. If you want to date but don’t want your fun-loving profile spreading around the office, you’re in luck. The League even has professional matchmaking services for anyone sick of swiping.

Want to see if you can make the cut? Make sure you’re in one of their operating cities, then download the iPhone or Android app.

10. Clover

Clover is an interesting dating app. Some people describe it as a Tinder-OkCupid hybrid targeted at 20-somethings. It offers various ways to find people you vibe with and spark new relationships built on genuine connections.

Like other apps, it has the classic swipe option, in-app matching games and icebreakers. But unlike other apps, it has advanced searching and a handy on-demand dating feature. Just pick a time, a place and a match, and Clover will give you venue recommendations. Clover also has chat rooms centered around different interests and live streams that let you broadcast yourself to potential matches and communicate in a more dynamic way.

Clover has premium tiers, but you can do a lot in the free version, which is available on Android or iPhone. If you’re shopping for a new device to use these apps on, check out our picks for the best Android phones of 2024 or the best Apple iPhone models to buy this year.

Online Dating Tips for 2023

Online dating apps are a great way to meet people, but each one is a little different, and you need to stay safe when you go out. If you’re gearing up to start swiping, keep these dating app tips in mind:

Read up on the app’s best practices: Most apps will give you some pointers for putting together your profile. For example, a photo-only profile might fly on Tinder but not on Hinge, which focuses more on conversations and common interests. Pay attention to the prompts when filling out your profile.

Choose your pictures carefully: When you pick your photos, use them to show off your personality and select different types of pictures. A profile that’s just selfies in a mirror doesn’t give the other person much to go on, but photos of you with your family, doing hobbies or hanging out with a pet are much more inviting. If your phone is running low on space, check out how to delete photos on your iPhone to free up room.

Stay safe on your date: Any time you’re meeting a stranger, follow online dating best practices, like staying in control of your transportation and meeting in a public place. Never do anything you’re not comfortable with, and share your location with a trusted friend or family member before leaving.

Find Love With the Right Tech

These Android and iPhone dating apps are a fantastic way to meet new people. Whatever you’re looking for, one of these apps is sure to help you find a match.

If you’re jumping into the dating pool, a new phone might help. Maybe your old one is too slow to keep up with these apps, or perhaps you want to look more responsible on your date than your cracked screen would suggest. Gazelle has a vast selection of used phones, so you can put your best foot forward without going over budget.

We make it easy to buy, too. Meeting strangers might be the goal for a dating app but not for buying a phone, so we made a trustworthy platform with transparent listings and easy returns. Explore our used iPhones and Androids today to start finding your perfect match!

There are more than 9 great things to learn about iOS 9, but here are some of the most important for your everyday life.

Apple’s software has undergone a major revamp guaranteed to make your life easier – if you know where to look. Here are 9 game-changing tips to get the most out of iOS 9 features.

1. Low Power Mode

So you’re stuck on the tarmac with no power outlet in sight, and it’s hour three. Thankfully, the new Low Power Mode will extend your battery life in those desperate hours of boredom. To activate, choose Settings – Battery – Low Power mode.

2. Apple Maps Adds Transit

Apple Maps caught a lot of flack in its initial release. But with Siri integration, I’m using it a lot more than its competitor Google Maps. And I’m pleasantly surprised that Apple Maps is giving me easier, faster and more accurate results – whether I’m driving, walking or taking public transit.

3. Boarding Passes

While individual airline apps have had mobile boarding passes for a while now, Apple Wallet just recently allowed you to integrate all of your travel documents in one place. There’s nothing worse than fumbling for a paper pass – or leaving it behind – when you’re sprinting across the airport between tight connections.

4. Advanced Spotlight

Jennifer Hudson famously sang that she didn’t like living in the spotlight, but everyone, Hudson included, will want to beam in Apple’s Spotlight. The new-and-improved search function makes finding everything a whole lot easier. Swipe left on the home screen and the improved Spotlight will populate with your recently used apps. Search for a contact and you’ll have easy access without having to scroll through several menus.

5. Silent Siri

I never liked that annoying beep right before Siri kicks in. Keep her quiet with a quick side-button press by activating this new feature. First, go to Settings – General – Siri – Voice Feedback. Then, check “Control with Ring Switch” to stop her from interrupting the flow of your Apple Music.

6. Back to Previous App

Previously, if an app navigated you to a different app, you needed to double click the home button and swipe right to return to your first app. iOS 9 changed that with a simple link that appears in the upper left hand corner when you navigate away. For example, if you click a link in an email and jump to Safari, you can reach to the top left and tap “Back to Mail” to easily get back to your inbox.

7. Music on Demand

As soon as you connect your headphones to a locked iPhone, an icon will appear in the bottom left of the screen that connects directly to the most recently used music app.

8. Grouped Photos

No more tediously clicking on every photo you want to send, delete or upload. Simply tap, hold and swipe to select groups of photos at once instead of one-by-one.

9. Better News

Another great feature of Apple’s improved Spotlight is the collection of news updates. Swipe left on the home screen (just like you would to search for an app or contact) and scroll down to find serious news articles from outlets you frequently visit in a refreshing and clean format. I’ve already started using it every day.

Though there’s plenty more to see and do in iOS 9, these innovations should get you started strong with Apple’s best operating system yet.

Whether you’ve got a new device or just a new operating system, it’s time to update those apps to meet all of your 2016 resolutions.

The post Five Apps to Help Meet Your New Year’s Resolutions Adam Edgerton appeared first on Gazelle The Horn.

For the New Year or a new purchase, these five apps are must-haves to get you through 2016 with your resolutions intact.

1. Drop Everything

Whether you’re viewing an Excel spreadsheet for work or a PDF for music rehearsal, Dropbox is the go-to organizer for the cloud. With the Dropbox app on your iPhone or iPad, it’s much easier to share files for those who may not have iCloud or Google accounts. Fewer clicks to share means it’s more likely someone might actually read those long attachments. Plus, you get 2GB of storage for free!

2. Learn Something New

Khan Academy has been rapidly moving its way from the virtual classroom to our living rooms. With more than 10,000 free instructional videos, the new Khan Academy app can turn any moment into a learning moment. Why not download this personal tutor for your child instead of a mind-numbing choice like Candy Crush? Keep learning alive for kids and adults alike during the bleak mid-winter.

3. Strategize Your Way to Victory

One of the best reasons to own a tablet is the quality tabletop games that have made their way into the App Store. BattleLore: Command has been holding my interest with its challenging-but-fair brand of turn-based strategy. If you’re someone who likes to pause before you swing your sword, BattleLore may be the thinking man’s game for you. A 2015 review assures everyone (as can I!) that it’s easy to learn and play.

4. Never Get Lost

Sorry, Apple Maps – though you’ve improved dramatically and are now better integrated with Siri, Google Maps still reigns because of Google’s massive information infrastructure. Though the gap has narrowed between these fierce competitors, I still choose Google for transit directions and for surprising new features – like alerts telling me when I should leave in order to make it to my destination on time.

5. Cook Up a Storm

If you love cooking like me, or even if learning is your New Year’s resolution, the Epicurious app is my go-to for both weeknight dinners and fancy dinner parties. With a precise filter as well as an eye for more exotic ingredients, Epicurious has something for both beginning and master chefs. I prefer it over the more traditional Food Network and Real Simple apps that also live on my home screen.

There’s more than five ways to meet your New Year’s resolutions, but these apps will help you in most areas of your life throughout 2016.

Now that we’re in the middle of the holiday season, most people are winding down the year to start fresh in 2016. But why wait until then? New Year’s resolutions seem nice, but here’s a not-so-secret secret: people don’t keep them.

Here’s a better idea. Make your resolutions now and upgrade your life before New Year’s. And all you need is your smartphone. Don’t believe me?

Let’s look at three of the top 10 resolutions from the past year and how you can upgrade your life over the next month with the help of your phone.

1. Lose Weight

Wearable tech is huge, and fitness freaks are investing in everything from the obvious (Fitbits) to the less obvious (these smart socks). Naturally, after Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas cookies, everyone wants to shed a few pounds early in the year—but what if you did yourself a favor and simply avoided putting them on? Your smartphone can help.

Many phones now come with built-in health features. And while you’ve likely ignored them until this point, you can use these to track your exercise. Your phone is also the perfect place to download apps like MyFitnessPal (free, Android and iOS), which lets you keep a journal of food intake on-the-go, keeping you honest when you reach for one more glass of eggnog.

2. Get Organized

Smartphones are organization machines, offering built-in calendars, note-taking tools and any number of to-do list apps. Do yourself a solid and clean out your phone so it can organize things smoothly.

You’re likely to have some downtime post-holiday. Put it to good use! Look through your apps to see when you last used them and which ones you don’t need. For instance, I have an annoying app that’s been nagging me for weeks about my phone’s lack of memory; I can delete it and kill the proverbial two birds with one stone.

When you’re done, you’ll have a nice, spiffy phone. And if your phone doesn’t “upgrade” itself once it’s clean, you may want to start the New Year with a new phone.

3. Spend Less, Save More

January is a fantastic time to start a budget and look for new ways to save. One option? Change your phone plan. With carriers moving away from the subsidy contracts, your monthly plan could get cheaper—if you avoid buying a new phone.

If your phone is in good condition, see how much you could save switching to one of these new contract-free plans. It may only be a couple dollars a month, but every little bit adds up. You could also look at the early termination fee for your plan and see if it’s cost-effective to cancel. This calculator can help you estimate how much this would be (check with your actual phone carrier before proceeding).

If you need a new phone, buy a certified pre-owned device. The phone will cost you less money, as will your monthly plan. Even better: you’ll own the new phone outright. See if you qualify to trade-in your existing handset, too. That way, you’ll have extra money to put toward your new phone, upgrading your savings and your life.

Apple released its much anticipated iOS 9 update to the public on Wednesday, September 16. While the visual changes in iOS 9 aren’t nearly as dramatic as the redesign we saw two years ago with iOS 7, subtle updates in functionality and navigation vastly improve the iPhone experience.

Apple knows what we want, and it’s not a design change. As Wired puts it, “Apple spent the last year connecting dots between the disparate pieces of its operating system. The next phase of technology is all about it learning our behavior and adapting to our needs, not forcing us into its pre-determined ideas about how the world works.”

With the hype of improvements, there have also been reports of crashing phones and subsequent data loss when attempting to download the new software, primarily among older generation iPhones. The Independent did the math and found that of the 160 million people who have already downloaded iOS 9, an insignificantly small percentage is actually having problems. To be on the safe side, make sure you back-up your data before updating.

Once you download the update, you won’t notice much difference apart from a minor font change and the side-by-side view when navigating between apps. But play around a bit more and you’ll soon realize how many small differences there are – and the big improvements they make.

Here are the top 5 hidden features of iOS 9:

1. Search in Settings

This is a simple update that makes a big difference for people who haven’t memorized the entire organizational mess of the Settings app (a.k.a. everyone). Now you can search whatever you’re looking for and each result will display its location within the app.

2. Improved Battery Life

Ever needed to milk your remaining battery to get you through the day? Of course you have, because poor battery life will forever haunt us all. Now there’s an easier way than turning down your brightness or going into airplane mode. Low Power Mode automatically reduces unnecessary functions so you can move on worry-free.

3. Select Multiple Photos at Once

If you’re in a rush to free up some storage space, deleting old photos just became so much easier. Simply tap, hold and swipe to select groups of photos at once. Another tiny improvement that makes a big difference.

4. Get Customized Suggestions from Siri

Siri gets a lot smarter in iOS 9, pushing us closer to the world of freakishly-advanced virtual personal assistants à la Her. Siri’s innovations are focused on customized suggestions based on your location and the time of day. It’ll give you news, contacts and apps using this information.

5. Call Contacts Directly from Search

Like most of iOS 9’s improvements, this one saves you one extra step in a task. Now when you search for a contact, you can directly call, FaceTime or message them from the search screen. Congratulations, you just saved yourself 2 seconds.

Sensing a theme here? These updates are designed for a marginally better experience and may go unnoticed by a large percentage of the population. However, they allow for more efficient and productive use, allowing you to accomplish more in less time.

Have you ever found yourself trying to answer a text or pull up directions on your phone while driving? It may seem like no big deal, but distracted driving causes hundreds of thousands of injuries each year. Using your phone while driving is, in fact, a very big deal. Luckily, there are Bluetooth car kits and basic driving apps available, so there’s no excuse to drive while distracted. Try these technologies and apps to stay focused and safe:

Bluetooth Car Kits

One of the simplest ways to turn your phone into a hands-free device is to install a Bluetooth car kit, which typically plugs into the vehicle’s DC outlet. Since it’s voice activated, you can simply talk to text, dial, or look up navigation, all with one easy-to-use device. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $100—a small price for safety.

Key2SafeDriving

Similar to other safe-driving tools, Key2SafeDriving disables your phone when you’re on the road. It differs, however, in the sense that it’s a standalone device, which is more difficult to tamper with than an app. The Key2SafeDriving add-on (which plugs into your car’s OBD-II port) stores text messages and calls until you arrive at your destination, and can even email you a report when it’s been disabled. This makes it a great device for multi-driver cars.

Vlingo (Free, Android, iOS, and Windows)

If you live in a state where hands-free phone use is permitted, an app like Vlingo can help you keep your eyes on the road. When activated, Vlingo verbally announces incoming calls and can even read your text messages so you don’t need to look at your phone. You can also use it to find directions, ask questions, and update social media without your hands ever leaving the steering wheel.

Canary (Free, Android and iOS)

If your teen is taking the car for the night, make sure he or she doesn’t leave without Canary installed and linked to your phone. This app not only disables your teen’s phone when the car is in motion, but it can also record driving behaviors, like if he or she attempts to send a text message or goes over the speed limit. As the linked parent, you will receive updates on your phone.

DriveOFF (Free, Android and iOS)

DriveOFF is a simple app that uses your phone’s accelerometer to disable your phone while you’re driving. It will turn off all calls and messages and simply display a boring background of your choice. You’ll earn points for distraction-free driving, too, so there’s an added incentive to keep your phone out of sight and out of mind.

Armed with the right apps and tech, your phone can actually become a force for good when it comes to safe driving. Do you have a different safe-driving tool you prefer to use?

There’s definitely a time and place for basic navigation apps, but some drivers also need to know where they’ve been just as much as where they’re going. The new generation of full-featured navigation apps can track your mileage and help you skirt bad traffic, all within one interface. The best navigation app might change the way you think about driving or make you realize what your commute has been missing.

Waze (Free, Android, iOS, and Windows)

Best for: Social Fans

Can’t stand to go offline for even a minute? Waze is like the Facebook of the freeway, allowing drivers and passengers to connect safely to crowdsource traffic information. Waze, a user favorite for years, provides turn-by-turn navigation cues and shows you the location of other Waze drivers, potential speed traps, accidents, and traffic snares along the way. Obviously, the social features should not be used while driving; passengers will love the interaction options.

Scout (Free, Android, iOS, and Windows)

Best for: Hardcore Commuters

Stuck doing the daily grind day in and day out? Use an app like Scout to make your long commute a little less painful. Loaded with features like a trip time estimator, traffic alerts, and even on-route restaurants and an event calendar, you can avoid traffic and maybe even make a coffee pit stop when you have the time. Scout even helps you find the cheapest parking so you’re not stuck spending your precious pay feeding the meter.

CoPilot (Free, Android, iOS, and Windows)

Best for: Penny Pinchers

If your main concern is saving money, an app like CoPilot might be helpful. Not only does the app show you three different route options, but you can see the cost of driving that path based on gas usage, idling time, and traffic stops—ideal if you’re on a budget. Another cool feature is the ability to download and save maps for offline viewing, which uses up less of your phone data.

Trapster (Free, Android, iOS, and Windows)

Best for: Speed Demons

While Trapster is designed to help drivers avoid police speed traps, it’s other features are worth the download. It gathers information from current drivers and generates a route map with potential issues like debris on the road, traffic, and accidents clearly marked so you can slow down and drive more carefully, or plan a route that skirts accidents and other slow-downs completely.

RoadTrip ($4.99, iOS)

Best for: Business Travelers

If you travel for work, RoadTrip might the best navigation app for you. With RoadTrip, you’re able to effectively track your trip miles, gas costs, and other variables so you may be properly reimbursed for your mileage. When you’re done, you can export your numbers to a spreadsheet for the accounting department or your own records.

Driving doesn’t have to be a total drag, especially if you know how to hack traffic and keep on top of your gas mileage. By responsibly using full-featured apps while driving, you can save both time and money.

Do you have another navigation app you rely on?

According to Business Insider, apps geared toward helping users improve their health are all the rage these days. Whether it’s tracking running mileage or caloric intake, here are seven of the best health and fitness apps to help every user achieve his or her fitness goals:

1. Fitbit (Free, Android, iOS, and Windows)

Designed to work with a variety of wearables and smart scales, Fitbit can track daily goals and monitor progress. It gives users a one-stop spot to log food and exercise and view calories in versus calories out, measure the number of steps they’ve taken per day (and see the distance in miles), and track the quality and length of sleep, among other metrics.

2. FitStar (Free, iOS)

FitStar works as a personal workout assistant. It creates customized exercise routines—tailored to the user’s age, weight, and other statistics—and adjusts them based on performance. The app includes easy-to-follow workouts by NFL legend Tony Gonzalez, who acts as a digital personal trainer. According to ReadWrite, FitStar “looks like a fitness DVD . . . but without the boredom factor that comes from repeating the same workouts.”

3. Lose It! (Free, iOS and Android)

Lose It! offers a comprehensive weight-loss program. Users are required to input their weight, height, and the number of weeks they want to work toward their goal. After that, the app sets a weekly goal showing exactly how long the weight-loss project will take.

This tool seamlessly connects people, devices, and food information, all in one location. Both the iOS and Android versions come with detailed calorie information, a calorie calculator, the ability to track daily activity and goals through graphs, and a list of friends to keep you motivated.

4. Map My Fitness (Free, iOS and Android)

Map My Fitness can track a range of activities, including running and cycling. It also measures calories, distance, and pace using a calorie counter and GPS tracking. The app’s interface includes workout details, a map of routes taken, and an up-to-date profile showing the user’s activities.

5. Moves (Free, iOS and Android)

The Moves app recognizes the places a user visits, automatically tracks everyday activities, and shows each day as a simple story line. Using a map, the app shows the path the user took throughout the day, how long each activity lasted, and other important tracking metrics.

6. Fooducate (Free, iOS and Android)

This app analyzes information about food products. Just scan a product bar code and Fooducate will display its nutrition grade. The app can reveal hidden ingredients, such as excessive sugar and controversial food colorings, and recommend alternatives when necessary to help users make an informed decision. It also includes a tracker to monitor diet based on set goals.

7. Calorie Counter (Free, iOS and Android)

With a database of over four million foods, Calorie Counter is one of the best health and fitness apps. The app can save your favorite foods, entire meals, and more. It also includes over 350 exercises and the ability to track cardio and strength training and create unlimited customized exercises.

Whether you’re trying to find a popular hangout or nearby concert, the best apps for events, tickets, and deals are just a click away. The Google Play store and Apple’s App Store both host a wide range of smartphone apps that can help you plan the perfect outing for you and your friends.

1. Time to Enjoy (Free, iOS)

Time to Enjoy browses your iPhone calendar, determines when you have free time, and then finds local events that take place during those open time slots. Upon locating an event of interest, the app will present you with the relevant details, which you can share with your friends via e-mail, text message, Facebook, or Twitter.

2. LocalMind (Free, Android and iOS)

LocalMind uses location services like FourSquare to pull up info from users who have visited a location. Users can post questions to gauge visitors’ opinions and get responses from local experts about specific events. The app pings someone who recently checked in at an event and requests their feedback, all in real-time.

3. Field Trip (Free, Android and iOS)

Google’s Field Trip is one of the best event apps for anyone who wants to get alerts about what’s happening in town. The app runs in the background and pops up information about restaurants, clubs, landmarks, or anything else nearby. Acting like a personal guide, Field Trip pulls data from popular publications like TimeOut and Thrillist. The interface includes a user-friendly map that displays nearby events. You can also select events and locations based on your interests.

4. Eventbrite (Free, Android and iOS)

Eventbrite is another great tool for locating nearby events. The app is an extension of the company’s popular ticketing website. You can browse events by category and see recommendations from friends. Eventbrite allows you to purchase tickets or scan QR codes on the go. This is one of the best apps for users who want to keep all of their event information on one app.

What do you think are the best apps for events?
