Each January, all the major players in the world of tech gadgets gather in Las Vegas for the annual Consumer Electronics Show. With more than 100,000 attendees each year, CES is where many top brands showcase their latest devices, and this year was no different.

Apple® and Samsung® headlined many of the 2024 tech releases announced at CES, showing off new phones, fitness wearables, transparent TVs, and even a spatial computing headset. Not to be outdone, competing brands like General Electric, LG, Intel, and JBL wowed the crowds with their next-generation tech gadgets. Nintendo® even joined the party, albeit through an unintentional leak revealing plans for its latest game consoles.

There was so much to see at CES 2024 that it can get overwhelming. Not to worry — we put together this guide to the 12 most exciting new tech releases of the upcoming year to help you hone in on your next purchases.

From some truly ingenious smartphones to groundbreaking medical devices, here are our most anticipated devices for what should be a banner year in the tech industry.

Apple Vision Pro

One of the most exciting tech gadgets debuting in 2024 is Apple’s entry into the virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) headset market. The Apple Vision Pro has a much higher price point than any competing product, but it has plenty of features to justify that expense. Think of it as a VR headset combined with Google Glass but with far greater capabilities than either of those devices on its own.

While the Vision Pro has a high starting price point of $3,499, it boasts some features that could blow away traditional VR headset models like the Meta Quest 3 ($499-649) and PlayStation VR 2 ($549). Not only is it Apple’s first 3D camera, but its mixed-reality display promises a level of immersion never before seen in consumer tech devices. Furthermore, its specs are all top-of-the-line, far outpacing what most competitors in the field can currently offer.

For instance, the Apple Vision Pro offers 4K image resolution with an impressive 5,000 nits of brightness, while the Meta Quest 3’s display maxes out at just 100 nits. (That’s right, the Vision Pro is a jaw-dropping 50 times brighter!)

In addition, both the Vision Pro and Meta Quest operate as standalone devices — a big advantage over Sony’s PlayStation VR 2, which only works when paired with a PS5 console. The Apple Vision Pro doesn’t even require a controller, as users can control it using eye movement, voice commands, and hand gestures instead of a physical keyboard or joystick.

While most competing AR and VR headset models focus primarily on gaming applications, the Apple Vision Pro is more ambitious. Apple calls the Vision Pro a “spatial computer,” as it blends its digital display with the physical space around the user, creating an immersive VR/AR experience that feels like less of a departure from real life.

However, it’s important to note that several highly popular app developers have indicated that they won’t immediately support Apple’s Vision Pro. Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube will all reportedly be unavailable at launch for Vision Pro users. Additionally, many rumors persist that Google and Meta might join that list, as both companies offer competing VR/AR headsets.

Samsung Galaxy S24 (Standard, Plus, and Ultra Models)

Like Apple, Samsung has several new gadgets worthy of spots on this list, starting with its Galaxy S24 phones. Compared to previous Samsung Galaxy models, the S24 devices are lighter and thinner, and they offer far higher refresh rates for gaming. At 2,600 nits, the Galaxy S24 phones also offer much brighter screens than any previous smartphone from Samsung or Apple (or most other competitors, for that matter).

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this year’s flagship Samsung phones is the introduction of AI features via Samsung’s proprietary Galaxy AI, which packs many valuable new features into these devices. For example, Galaxy AI can generate language translations in real-time. In other words, if you’re speaking English and the person on the other end is speaking Spanish, Galaxy AI can provide live translations via audio and text transcriptions, making the language barrier a thing of the past.

Additionally, Galaxy AI offers users the ability to perform Google image searches with just a tap of a finger, along with a generative edit function for photos that allows you to move, expand, or remove background subjects. Samsung even added extensive AI models to its cameras, vastly improving its already-impressive zoom capabilities, nighttime photography, and more.

While the S24’s standard ($799) and Plus ($999) models hit the same starting price points as their S23 counterparts, the top-of-the-line Ultra ($1,299) model gets a $100 price increase over the S23 Ultra. This price hike is likely due to the inclusion of a new advanced cooling system in the S24 Ultra, which could be worth it for users who do lots of gaming, along with a camera that packs a whopping 200MP, which ties the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra for the highest-megapixel phone camera ever produced.

As it turns out, consumers seem undeterred by the slightly higher price point. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series are smashing all previous records — on January 25, Samsung said that 1.21 million units have already been pre-ordered in South Korea alone, and roughly 60% of those were for the top-shelf S24 Ultra.

Rumored Apple iPhone 16 (Standard, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max Models)

Much like Samsung’s flagship phones will get an upgrade in 2024, so will Apple’s ever-popular iPhone. While the rumored iPhone 16 won’t debut until September, there are already plenty of rumors regarding specifications.

One persistent rumor is that the Pro and Pro Max models will boast larger screens than the 15 Pro models. Impressively, it also sounds like the iPhone 16’s OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens will require less power than previous models due to advancements in display efficiency, improving the devices’ battery life even in the models with bigger displays.

Another expected change is the inclusion of the popular Action Button from the 15 Pro models in all four iPhone 16 models. This multi-function button gives users easy, instant access to such actions as turning on the phone’s flashlight or camera, activating Focus Mode or Silent Mode, and turning on translation features.

There are also rumors about the iPhone 16’s camera setup. With the iPhone 15 models, Apple finally included a camera system that can compete with the best Android phones, and it sounds like the company has even bigger things in store for the 16 series.

While it almost certainly won’t match the megapixel count of the Samsung S24 Ultra’s incredible 200MP camera, rumor has it that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will integrate a brand-new Sony imaging sensor that supports high-tech features such as dual conversion gain and analog-to-digital converters. In short, these features could enable the 16 Pro Max to take photos with a much more broad dynamic range than any previous smartphone camera.

We expect to hear much more regarding Apple’s plans for the iPhone 16 series later this year. For now, there are plenty of juicy rumors flying around to pique our interest.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

Finally, it appears that the Oura Ring fitness tracker has some serious competition, as Samsung recently announced its own new smart ring. Like the latest iPhones, concrete details about the Samsung Galaxy Ring are sparse, as it isn’t expected to hit the market until at least the third quarter of 2024.

According to Samsung representatives, the Galaxy Ring will enable users to track their sleep patterns and spot potential signs of sleep apnea. In addition, it can indicate changes in blood oxygen and body temperature, while also providing alerts if it senses a troublesome heart rate. The smart ring will reportedly provide medication reminders and alerts regarding interactions between medications as well.

Buyers will be able to choose from a variety of sizes and colors, though it’s not yet clear if the Galaxy Ring will be available in more than one basic style. We couldn’t find any info on pricing or an exact release date, but it’s safe to say that the Galaxy Ring will be one of the most closely watched consumer tech developments of the year.

Apple Watch X

The Apple Watch celebrates its tenth birthday this year, and the company is reportedly celebrating with the release of a thinner, sleeker watch. While it’s not yet clear if the latest Apple watch will hit stores in late 2024 or early 2025, we’re already getting plenty of rumors about its design and features.

One such report says that Apple is designing a new MicroLED display, an updated version of LED technology that boasts longer battery life, better response times, brighter colors, and improved contrast. It also sounds like Apple is replacing its current bands with new magnetic bracelets, although this would end the Apple Watch’s longstanding tradition of making all models compatible with all band styles.

As for health features, Apple reportedly has some big plans in store, including blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection. Additionally, there are rumors that Apple is working on an infrared blood glucose monitor for the next generation of its wearable tech, although this feature might not be ready for the Apple Watch X.

One feature you likely won’t see with the latest iteration of Apple’s smartwatch is blood oxygen readings via pulse oximetry technology. In late 2023, the U.S. International Trade Commission temporarily banned sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 due to patent infringement issues regarding their pulse oximetry tech.

While the ban has been lifted and both watches are back on the market, Apple could use all the good press it can get regarding its next smartwatch. Based on the early rumors, we feel like the latest version could be the most impressive one yet!

GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker

CES 2024 also had some exciting new kitchen devices on display, including General Electric’s groundbreaking new smart indoor smoker. While a traditional smoker requires a relatively large outdoor area with plentiful ventilation, GE’s new device changes everything you thought you knew about smokers. The appliance’s active smoke filtration technology allows users to smoke meats, cheeses, spices, and more from the comfort of their kitchens.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker is its small footprint, as it’s only slightly bigger than an air fryer or toaster oven. It has a built-in probe-style meat thermometer, a transparent glass front door, and an interior lightbulb that makes it easy to keep an eye on your foods as they smoke.

The GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker also uses far fewer wood pellets than a traditional outdoor smoker, and it’s simple to customize the level of smokiness in any food. At $999, this revolutionary kitchen gadget is already available on store shelves.

Transparent TVs (Samsung Transparent MICRO LED TV and LG Signature OLED TV)

It’s a big year for new tech gadgets at Samsung, as it’s one of two companies (along with LG) that’s debuting a transparent TV. Samsung is no stranger to producing innovative televisions that merge seamlessly with their environments, as its popular Frame TV has blended into gallery walls in homes around the world since 2017.

LG and Samsung are using slightly different methods to produce these see-through TVs. The LG Signature OLED TV has an OLED screen that uses organic light emitters to illuminate each pixel, while the Samsung TV utilizes inorganic emitters which are similar to the technology in typical LED displays.

Either way, the result is a screen that’s not just see-through but also has better image clarity and contrast than a normal TV. Another impressive aspect of transparent TV technology is the fact that it has virtually unlimited options regarding screen size. Imagine watching your favorite streaming services on a super-high-definition, movie-theater-sized display from the comfort of your own home — it’s a distinct possibility thanks to these new TVs.

While these TVs might be prohibitively expensive at first — Samsung’s standard MICRO LED TVs cost up to $150,000, and that’s for the non-transparent model — movie nights will never be the same once these companies produce a more affordable version of their new screens.

Intel Core Ultra Processor

Intel is poised to make a big splash in 2024, thanks to its new Core Ultra CPUs. The specs on these new processors are undeniably impressive and represent a big upgrade over previous models.

Intel representatives say they’re 11% faster for multithreading applications (in which the CPU executes two or more programs at the same time) than any competing chips from AMD, Qualcomm, or Apple, and they use 25% less power than Intel’s previous generation of processors. There’s even a “neural processing unit” for AI integrations.

You can expect to see the Intel Core Ultra Processor used in a broad selection of new Windows PCs in 2024, including those from Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, Asus, and MSI. Even better is the fact that they won’t cost an arm and a leg, as some models like the Acer Swift Go 14 start at just $999.99.

Nintendo Switch 2

One of the most widespread rumors in the gaming world is that the Nintendo Switch 2 will debut sometime in 2024, likely around the start of Q4, just in time for the holiday season. Like some other devices in this guide, concrete details are slim at this point (Nintendo won’t even confirm that they’re working on a Switch 2 at all), but that’s not stopping people from getting excited about the possibilities.

Leaked emails between Nintendo and Activision imply that the Switch 2’s hardware will be roughly comparable to last-gen console systems like the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One, which were both released in 2013. Of course, the Nintendo Switch products are hybrid devices capable of mobile gaming, so it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

It remains to be seen whether the Switch 2 will support 4K images or stick to 1080p high-def imagery. Interestingly, one popular rumor says Nintendo might ditch the higher-quality screen of the Switch OLED from 2021 and return to an old-school LCD screen as a cost-cutting measure.

Gamers can likely expect improved battery life and faster internal memory, and early rumors also suggest Nintendo will make the Switch 2 backward compatible with previous iterations of the Switch, meaning you can play games made for the original Switch on the Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to retail for around $400.

Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Wireless Headphones

Bluetooth earbuds have become widely popular over the years, although audiophiles have often complained that Bluetooth’s bandwidth limits result in subpar audio quality. However, the introduction of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology — currently used in devices like Apple AirTags — could produce another mobile audio revolution in 2024.

The significantly wider bandwidth capabilities of UWB have made it possible to produce lossless high-resolution audio in wireless headphones, a breakthrough that could leave the now-ubiquitous Bluetooth earbuds in the dust. Another big advantage of UWB is the fact that it’s incredibly energy-efficient, meaning these new wireless headphones could last for days between charges.

What’s even better is that the vast majority of modern smartphones already support UWB technology, including phones as old as the iPhone 11 (2019), Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus (2021), and Google Pixel 6 Pro (2021). The Canadian company PSB Speakers (which recently celebrated a half-century in business) will produce the first UWB wireless headphones to hit the market.

So, what’s the catch? The only negative of UWB technology for wireless headphones is the fact that, compared to Bluetooth, it has a very short range. For instance, Bluetooth headphones can still produce audio of reasonable quality up to 100 feet away from the host device, but UWB headphones could cut out if you wander a mere ten feet from your phone.

JBL Bluetooth Speakers

There are tons of Bluetooth speakers on the market these days, but JBL continues to impress with its combination of modern features and reasonable pricing models. JBL announced three new portable speakers at CES 2024: the Xtreme 4 ($379.95), Clip 5 ($79.95), and Go 4 ($49.95).

The JBL Xtreme 4 really lives up to its name, as it boasts impressive dustproof and waterproof capabilities. It incorporates JBL’s new AI Sound Boost tech, which uses AI to cut distortion and promote clearer (and louder) audio output. It has six speakers (two drivers, two subwoofers, and two of JBL’s proprietary Bass Radiators) and an impressive 24-hour playback time between charges.

The JBL Go 4 is the company’s smallest speaker, but it still incorporates the Xtreme 4’s dust and water resistance. It also offers seven hours of battery life, which is impressive for such a tiny device that costs less than 50 bucks.

Meanwhile, the Clip 5 wireless speaker splits the difference between the Xtreme 4 and Go 4. True to its name, the Clip 5 has a carabiner that allows users to attach it to just about any item, from backpacks to belt loops. Compared to the previous Clip 4 model, this wireless speaker has much greater bass performance, while still offering 12 hours of playback time.

Withings BeamO Health Multiscope

CES 2024 also had some exciting medical devices to discuss, including the Withings BeamO device, marketed as the world’s first “four-in-one vital monitor.” The device is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration but is expected to cost around $220 when it gains FDA clearance and hits the consumer market.

The impressive device includes four sensors: a contactless thermometer, a digital stethoscope, an electrocardiogram, and a miniature oximeter. This means that this one device can measure body temperature, gauge heart and lung health, detect cardiovascular issues, and assess blood oxygen levels.

While the BeamO could prove useful for a wide variety of individuals keeping track of their vitals, Withings says it will be especially valuable for people with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They can track their own health statistics at home, cutting down on costly and time-consuming trips to the doctor’s office for checkups.

The Withings BeamO has a companion app that transfers data to your doctor, as well as telemedicine functions that provide audio streams between doctors and patients. Once it gains FDA approval, the BeamO could be legitimately life-changing for individuals with chronic diseases that require consistent monitoring.

While iOS devices solely include those manufactured by Apple, Android is less a brand and more of an ecosystem. If you’re looking for the best Android phone, consider flagship phones, foldable phones, camera system capabilities, battery life, and more.

Since there are so many different Android devices on the market, finding the perfect handset for your needs can take time, energy, and a bit of research.

We’re here to help you find the best Android phone for your needs, whether you want a gaming phone, something with the best battery life, or a telephoto camera so you can get excellent snapshots on your smartphone.

From the Google Pixel series to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, here’s a guide to the best Android phones of 2023.

What are the most important things to look for in an Android phone?

Exploring the massive phone market can feel overwhelming if you’re unsure what to look for. After all, what makes a great Android phone? Is it a high-quality camera setup with telephoto zoom? Or is it a foldable phone that marries style and convenience?

While your specific preferences may vary depending on what you want from a smartphone, here are a few things to look for whether you’re buying pre-owned or purchasing a new phone from a retail store.

Screen Size and Resolution: The screen is one of the most essential parts of any smartphone, so you’ll want to make sure it’s big enough and has a high enough resolution to be comfortable to use.

Processor and RAM: These components will determine how fast your phone feels. A good processor and plenty of RAM make your handset responsive and fluid.

Camera: If you take many photos or videos, you’ll want a phone with a good camera. Look for a phone with a high-resolution sensor and multiple lenses.

Battery Life: No one wants to stay tethered to a charger, so select a smartphone with a long-lasting battery. Alongside this, you can also determine whether or not your phone includes wireless charging support.

Storage: If you like to store a lot of photos, videos, music, or apps on your phone, you’ll need one with plenty of storage space.

Operating System: Android is the most popular mobile operating system in the world, and there are a variety of different versions available. Choose an Android phone that runs the latest version of the operating system to ensure you have access to the latest features and security updates.

Price: Android phones range in price from around $100 to over $1,000. Pick a device that fits your budget and needs. For instance, some of Samsung’s phones will have a higher starting price than a third-party manufacturer or a budget handset.

This isn’t a complete list of what you should consider when shopping. It would be best to look at how you use your current phone, whether or not you need to purchase accessories, and how smoothly you can transfer over your existing data, such as contacts, messages, and apps.

Best Android Phones of 2024

Our list of the best Android phones you can buy today includes a bit of everything, from high-end Pixel phones and flagship devices to budget-friendly smartphones that don’t skimp on features and utility.

We looked at everything from battery life to camera performance to find devices that include foldable phones, revamped flip phones, and top-tier releases that feature the best features and peripherals.

A few of the devices that feature prominently on this list include the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (the latest flagship from the largest Android manufacturer), the Google Pixel 8 Pro (Google’s newest and boldest phone with long battery life and Google AI-assisted photography), and a few foldable devices like the Z Flip 5, Motorola Razr, and Huawei Mate X2.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the newest entry in the Ultra lineup from Samsung. It features a large, beautiful display, powerful performance, and an impressive camera system.

While most Android phones include bold screens and responsive displays, only the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra includes the S-Pen. You can easily use the built-in S-Pen to write notes, edit photos, sketch, or leave memos with your onboard stylus.

The S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440×3088 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display is bright and vibrant, and it’s perfect for watching videos, playing games, or just browsing the web.

Suppose you’re looking for a high-quality gaming phone. In that case, you may opt for the Galaxy S23 Ultra thanks to its snappy processing speeds, compatible peripherals like controllers, and bold screen that can outclass several handheld gaming devices.

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor powers this device. That processor pairs well with the included 8 or 12GB of RAM, depending on your chosen model and onboard storage selection. The S23 Ultra is also available in a 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage option.

The S23 Ultra has a quad-lens rear camera system with a 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, a 10MP telephoto sensor, and a 10MP periscope telephoto sensor. The S23 Ultra also has a 12MP front-facing camera for crisp, colorful selfies and snapshots.

The S23 Ultra runs Android 13 with Samsung’s One UI 6 skin. One UI is a user-friendly interface that is easy to use and navigate, though some users dislike that the UI takes up a solid chunk of storage space. Like many other Android phones on this list, the S23 Ultra is compatible with the latest Android 14 release.

The S23 Ultra has a long-lasting battery that can easily last all day on a single charge. The S23 Ultra also supports fast charging and wireless charging, which some other Android phones don’t feature.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is an excellent smartphone that offers a great combination of features and performance. It’s a strong choice for anyone looking for a high-end smartphone.

Check out the S23 Ultra at a glance:

Large, beautiful display

Powerful performance

Impressive camera system

Long-lasting battery

Fast charging and wireless charging

Integrated S-Pen stylus

Overall, if you’re looking for one of the best Android phones on the market, you can’t go wrong with the S23 Ultra.

Keep in mind that while you get excellent battery life, wireless charging, and compatibility with upcoming software updates, you do miss out on the conventional headphone jack and some other features that some other Android phones still tout.

Samsung Galaxy S23

With a more affordable price tag and a few fewer features, the Galaxy S23 still offers a lot of bang for your buck if you’re ready for a new smartphone. Like its Ultra counterpart, the S23 base model comes pre-loaded with Android 13, upgradeable to 14, with out-of-the-box access to Samsung’s OneUI.

The S23 also uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for high-quality performance whether you’re playing a graphics-intensive mobile game or you’re streaming 4K videos.

Speaking of streaming, you’ll have a great time watching content on the device’s 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with HDR10+ compatibility. If you’re not interested in a foldable device, this screen size makes the S23 perhaps the best small Android phone next to the Pixel 7a and other 6.1-inch models.

Like many of the devices on our list, the S23 can hit a 120 Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth usage at the cost of a bit of additional battery life.

Compare the camera setup to the Pixel 7a and the S23 comes out on top again with a triple-lens camera compared to the Pixel 7a’s dual camera setup. The triple-lens configuration uses a 50MP primary lens, 10MP telephoto lens, and 12MP ultra-wide lens. The selfie camera has a standard 12MP lens but offers an enhanced Night Mode for greater noise reduction in all light levels.

Take a quick look at the Samsung Galaxy S23:

8GB RAM and 128, 256, or 512GB storage for as much space as you need

Triple-lens camera system for stunning photos that are just behind top-tier smartphones

Onboard Android 13 with OneUI 6.1

6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with bold colors and depth

Several color selections so you can express yourself

The S23 is one of the best base models on our list, and there’s a reason the Galaxy series remains so popular with Android users. It trumps devices like the Pixel 7a in several ways without sacrificing camera or video quality. Buying one used or starting a trade-in is a great way to save money on an S23.

Google Pixel 8 Pro

The Google Pixel 8 Pro is one of the newest handsets featured on this list. It’s Google’s flagship phone that the brand released in October 2023, and it’s currently trying to stake its claim as the best Android smartphone available today.

Whether you want a solid phone for mobile gaming or you’re most interested in camera performance, the Google Pixel 8 Pro likely has something to offer you.

The device comes standard with a 6.7-inch Super Actua display and 1344×2992 resolution. The Google Pixel 8 Pro also supports Smooth Display for a seamless scrolling experience up to 120 Hz.

Google Pixel 8 Pro devices use the brand’s latest chip, the Google Tensor G3. The handset also utilizes a Titan M2 security coprocessor.

If you’re interested in testing out the Google Fi wireless service, you can get money-saving discounts on a Pixel 8 Pro, so it may be the best Android phone for your money when you factor in add-on services and bundles.

Here are some of the pros of the Google Pixel 8 Pro:

Excellent camera setup with telephoto camera capabilities

Powerful performance using Google’s latest proprietary chip

Long-lasting battery life for power users and mobile gamers

Fast wireless charging (Qi-certified performance)

Stock Android with timely software updates

Exclusive Google features

And, of course, a few negatives:

More expensive than some of the other handsets on our list

No expandable storage

No headphone jack

Ultimately, if you want the best Pixel Phone on the market, you should go with the Google Pixel 8 Pro. It has the most feature-richness compared to other devices in the Pixel family, though its price tag reflects that.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro starts at $999, with the amount increasing depending on storage choices and your preferred carrier. Storage options include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Google Pixel 8

Much like the Pixel 8 Pro, the Google Pixel 8 dropped in October 2023 and represents a great entry point to the Google flagship series. Though it isn’t quite as feature-rich as the Pro, it still represents a step up over the Pixel 7a (no slouch in its own right) without carrying as high of a price tag.

You won’t get the same camera quality as the Pixel 8 has one less camera in the rear system. However, the dual-camera setup still provides high-quality photos compared to older smartphones. Luckily, the Pixel 8 uses the high-quality Google Tensor G3 chip so you can get robust processing power which is ideal for streaming, browsing, and gaming.

Also, compared to the Pixel 8 Pro, the Pixel 8 has a slightly smaller screen and is a standard Actua Display instead of the Pro’s Super Actua setup. You can still get ultra-smooth scrolling up to 120 Hz, but the brightness is capped at 1400 nits as opposed to the Pro’s 1600.

Again, like its higher-tier cousin, you can get appealing discounts on a Pixel 8 if you consider pairing your new device with Google Fi wireless service.

Here are some of the pros of the Google Pixel 8:

Respectable camera setup that takes quality photos

Comparable performance to the Pro thanks to Google’s latest chip

A 4,575 mAh battery for over a day’s worth of use

Fast wireless charging (Qi-certified performance)

A less-bloated Android skin

Exclusive Google features

If you want to save money on a Pixel phone but don’t want to go for the Pixel 7a, the 8 is a great bridge between a budget handset and a high-end flagship model. It sacrifices a bit on camera quality and internal memory but more than makes up for that with a reduced price tag and comparable performance to other base-level handsets on our list.

The Google Pixel 8 starts at $699, with the amount increasing depending on your preferred storage options, carrier discounts, and other sales. Storage options range from 128GB to 256GB.

Google Pixel 7a

The Google Pixel 7a is a mid-range smartphone released in May 2023. It has a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Google Tensor G2 processor, and a 64MP dual-camera system. It also has a 4,385 mAh battery and runs Android 13 with Android 14 compatibility.

The Pixel 7a is a great phone for people who want a powerful device without spending much money. While it may not be the best Android phone in terms of sheer processing speeds or new chips, it offers enough features to make its price tag more than reasonable.

It has a good camera, a long-lasting battery, and a clean version of Android without some of the added bloatware that flagship phones often have.

Highlights of the Pixel 7a include:

Great onboard cameras

Long-lasting battery life

A clean version of Android that isn’t hampered by bloatware

Exclusive Google features only available on Pixel phones

Some of the cons of the Pixel 7a include:

Mid-range processor

No expandable storage

Overall, the Google Pixel 7a may be the best Android phone for people who want a powerful device without spending much money. Here’s a quick look at the device specifications:

Operating System: Android 13

Chipset: Google Tensor G2

CPU: Octa-core (2×2.85 GHz Cortex-X1 & 2×2.35 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4×1.80 GHz Cortex-A55)

GPU: Google Tensor G2 (5 nm)

Display: 6.1 inches, 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio, 411 ppi

Camera: 564MP, f/1.9, 26mm (wide), 1/1.73″, 0.8µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS
13MP, f/2.2, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1.12µm

Battery: 4,385 mAh

On our list of best Android phones, this is one of the most affordable for how much feature-richness you get. Sure, you’re not getting the latest and shiniest Google release, but you’re also not paying the same prices. The 7a is a worthy addition to any smartphone lineup.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

What’s old is new again with the introduction of flip-phone devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. The Z Flip 5 uses a larger cover screen than the Z Flip 4 while trimming down the overall device profile.

Compared to some popular devices on the list, the Z Flip 5 also has more color selections. You can choose between eight eye-catching hues, including a few online-exclusive shades you can get if you purchase your phone unlocked through Samsung.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a solid battery, offering up to 57 hours of listening time, 20 hours of watch time, or a mix of both. While you can find better battery life in a conventional handset, the Flip 5 offers quality use time for its design style.

However, compared to some other batteries, such as the one in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Google Pixel, it’s clear that the Flip 5 made a few compromises. The Flip 5 only touts a 3,700 mAh battery, unlike other Android phones that include a minimum of 4,000 mAh.

While you’ll miss out on the 100x Space Zoom of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, you get a better cover screen that enables you to text, snap photos, answer calls, and more.

Here’s the Galaxy Z Flip 5 broken down:

6.7-inch main screen and 3.4-inch cover screen both represent leaps over the Z Flip 4

Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2x provides bright, bold colors on both viewable screens

Max refresh rate of 120 Hz for buttery smooth browsing

Two different storage options

Dual rear camera system and 12MP selfie camera

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for comparable performance to high-end flagships

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a higher-end entry to the foldable market, but its compactness, increased cover screen space, and brighter display make it a worthy contender for your next Android phone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

While modern flip phones take an older feature and include a newer twist, foldables take that concept and turn it sideways. Where flip phones try to maximize how compact a smartphone can be, foldables take what looks like your average handset and include what amounts to tablet functionality.

Enter the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. While it’s lighter and thinner than its predecessor, it doesn’t short users on performance power or camera features. By using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Fold 5 users can get snappy responses and quickly load applications.

The device’s 7.6-inch screen is ideal for streaming, gaming, and browsing, and though the device doesn’t include an S-Pen, it supports the stylus, which makes the Z Fold a unique digital sketchpad.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s specs:

Extensive battery life that supports up to 72 hours of listening or 21 hours of watching

A truly large screen that checks in at 7.6 inches

High-end processing power thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform

Five onboard cameras for greater content creation capabilities

A more durable Flex Hinge for less risk of damage during general use

The big caveat is that this may be the single most expensive handset on our list, so you must be ready to spend some real Android phone money to get your hands on one.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts at $,1799. However, the manufacturer is often quite generous with trade-in deals, credits, and upgrades if you want to purchase a new device.

You could also save big on a gently used Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 with Gazelle.

What’s the Best Small Android Phone?

Looking for the best Android phone that won’t take up all of the space in your pockets or purse? Sometimes, the best things come in the smallest packages.

Smaller Android phones often have a screen size of around six inches, meaning you’re looking at the base models of most flagship devices: Think the Samsung Galaxy S23 instead of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Small Android phones typically have many of the same features as larger Android phones. However, you’re likely sacrificing a bit of battery life and processing power, especially if you’re looking for the best-value Android phone.

For something that’s truly portable, you should consider the Z Flip 5. Though both are foldable devices, they prioritize compactness over the tablet mode. When folded, you can tuck either device into a pocket, a clutch, or a purse for maximum portability.

What is the Best Low-Cost Samsung Flagship Device?

If you want great deals on Samsung phones, your best bet is to look for certified pre-owned or renewed devices. A flagship phone doesn’t necessarily mean you need to pay flagship prices.

In fact, many older Samsung Galaxy models go for hundreds of dollars less than their initial retail prices. Currently, a device like the S21 Ultra 5G starts at $289 for a certified renewed model.

The S21 Ultra provides a 108MP rear camera, which equals some mid-range devices released in 2023. It also has a bold 6.8-inch screen with slim bezels for maximum viewable space.

The S21 Ultra still offers robust battery life and quality performance, though you’re compromising on a few years of future update support.

If you want to stay within this model year, your best option may be the Samsung Galaxy S23. It’s smaller than the Galaxy S23 Ultra but offers similar battery life with a few compromises in overall processing power and camera performance.

The Best Foldable Android Phones

Foldable Android phones have a flexible display that you can fold in half or use as a flip phone. This feature allows you to use the phones in two primary ways: as a traditional smartphone mode and as a tablet.

Foldable Android phones have been on the market for a few years now, but they are still relatively new technology. As a result, they are expensive. However, the price of foldable Android phones will likely decrease as the technology becomes more mainstream.

There are several advantages to using a foldable Android phone. First, they offer a larger screen than traditional smartphones. This can be useful for watching videos, playing games, or working on documents.

Second, most phones on our list are more portable than tablets, especially if you opt for one of the newer flip-phone models.

However, there are also some disadvantages to using a foldable Android phone. First, the folding mechanism can be fragile. If you are not careful, you could damage the screen or the hinge.

Also, as mentioned, foldable Android phones are typically pricier. Many users may find the base retail price too high. If you want a foldable phone, consider purchasing an older model or a certified renewed device.

Overall, foldable Android phones are a new and exciting technology. If you are considering buying a foldable Android phone, be sure to weigh the pros and cons carefully.

Here are some of the best foldable Android phones on the market:

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Huawei Mate X2

Motorola Razr 5G

Oppo Find N3

Out of all of these, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is probably the most popular, though it’s not a budget Android phone. Some models of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 start at $1,499 or higher retail. If you’re looking for the best entry point, you may want to consider the Razr or Z Flip 5, as they’re both more affordable and easy to find.

The Best Cheap Foldable Android Phone

If you want to get in on the excitement of foldable phones but don’t want to pay the high price associated with most flagship Android phones, there are still budget options available. Out of the phones we’ve mentioned on our list, Android users find that the Motorola Razr is easily the most affordable foldable phone.

Since the Razr starts at $699, it represents a great entry point into the foldable phone market. Also, while folded, it’s a reasonably small Android phone, which makes it a breeze to carry and transport.

The Razr doesn’t skimp on camera performance, either. Though its cover screen might not be as good as the Samsung Z Flip series, it still offers serviceable screen real estate and a high enough resolution to compete with other, more expensive foldable phones.

However, the price of certified pre-owned phones can go even lower. Devices like the original Galaxy Fold start at $179 for an unlocked device in good condition. If you’re open to a handset that’s a few model years older, you can get an excellent deal without losing access to top features and quality performance.

Plus, starting with a certified renewed foldable device is a great way to test whether you like the style or if a traditional smartphone would be a better fit for your needs.

Best Budget Camera Phones

Sometimes, you only need a high-quality phone camera without all the added processing power or new features. As long as it can take nice snapshots, send texts, and make phone calls, that may be enough.

In this instance, you might look for a device that gets you access to the camera app in just a few taps, like an older Samsung Galaxy device with its double-press camera access.

A great camera phone doesn’t have to be a bank-breaker. For instance, the Google Pixel 7a starts at $499 and packs quite a punch in the camera department. Plus, it uses the same processor as the standard Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, so you’re not compromising much on performance.

With a device trade-in, you may save quite a bit on a device like the Google Pixel 7a.

What’s the Best Way to Save Money on an Android Phone?

Android phones are becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. They offer a wide range of features and functionality at a fraction of the cost of iPhones. However, even with the lower price tag, it can still be challenging to save money on an Android phone.

Buy at the right time of year.

The best time to buy an Android phone may be during the holiday season or when a new model is about to be released. Usually, retailers and manufacturers want to clear out their inventory to make room for new products. As a result, you can often find great deals on Android phones during these times.

Look for used or refurbished phones.

If you’re on a tight budget, consider buying a used or refurbished Android phone. These phones are often much cheaper than new ones and can still be in excellent condition.

Gazelle specializes in refurbished and renewed devices. Our trade-in program makes it easy to switch out your old handset for a new device like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra at a fraction of the retail price.

We offer phones that work with every carrier and unlocked devices so that you can pick and choose between service plans as you please.

Shop around for the best price.

Once you’ve decided on the type of Android phone you want, shop around for the best price. You can compare prices online or in-store to find the best deal. Some online retailers offer rebates, incentives, and cashback options if you purchase directly.

Use a payment plan.

If you can’t afford to pay for an Android phone upfront, you can use a payment plan. Certain carriers, shopping sites, and credit cards allow you to pay for the phone over time, usually in monthly installments.

Get a trade-in.

If you have an old Android phone, you can probably trade it in for a discount on a new one. Trading up is a great way to get rid of an old phone and save money on a new one simultaneously.

By following these tips, you can save money on your next Android phone. Or, you can work directly with Gazelle to find the best deals on smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Google Pixel series.

With Google Android and Apple iOS making up more than 99% of global smartphone shares, the question isn’t which operating system (OS) is better — but which one is better for you. Android dominates globally with roughly 72.77% of the worldwide market, but Apple holds a strong lead in the U.S. with iPhones accounting for over 58% of domestic smartphone usage. With more than 3 billion active Android devices and over 1 billion active iPhones worldwide, both ecosystems have proven staying power, and the characteristics that set them apart make each an equally helpful option depending on your goals. Whether you want a device with top-of-the-line security, premium design, cost-effectiveness, or a combination of properties, there’s a smartphone for you somewhere in Android’s and Apple’s big market of products.

iPhone vs. Android – Factors to Consider

Android vs. iPhone – how do you choose? Both operating systems are continually growing with each new update, and either will probably meet any casual phone user’s needs. To put the scale in perspective, there’s over 1 billion active iPhones and over 3 billion active Android devices worldwide, with Android holding roughly 72.77% of the worldwide market share as of late 2025. Think about the following characteristics to know better what you value in a device and which OS you should be shopping for.

Ease of Use

Android’s customizable interface and iOS’s simplicity are both easy to use and adapt to when switching between them. But they do have some notable differences:

Digital assistants: Apple’s Siri and Google’s Google Assistant are both helpful for answering basic questions and helping you start your day with an overview of the weather and to-do lists. In recent years, both assistants have been enhanced with AI-powered features – Apple introduced Apple Intelligence beginning with iOS 18, while Google has continued deepening Gemini integration across Android devices.

Apps and services: Every phone comes equipped with certain productivity and usability services, like a GPS navigation app, email, cameras and storage. Consider what you value in these core services. For example, if you store a lot of data or critical files on your phone, storage options may be a top priority, while those who travel often may want specific features in their navigational apps. The Apple App Store currently offers approximately 1.55 million apps, while Google Play offers around 1.68 million, so selection is comparable across both platforms.

Frame type and size: Ease of use also includes how well you can physically handle the phone, factoring in the frame material, the device’s weight and if the height and width fit into your hand for easy one-handed use. Frame material and screen protection will also tell you how durable a device will be against splashes, dust and falls.

Aesthetics

For many, the perfect smartphone has to balance durability and ease of use with a sleek, interesting visual. Designs have changed over the years – while shoppers once flocked to stores for compact devices in neutral colors, today’s phones give you bigger, flat or curved edge designs in multiple colors, finishes and materials.

iPhone devices tend to look more premium across the board and are usually the most expensive as a result. Android has a wider number of appearances and sizes across manufacturers like Samsung, Google and OnePlus. Accessories also play a big part in style. While they’re readily available for most modern-day devices, it’s usually easier to find Apple cases and accessories than it is with Android since Android covers so many manufacturers and device sizes.

Open vs. Closed System

One of the most well-known differences between the two operating systems is Android’s open system and iOS’s closed system. Android’s operations are based on the Android Open Source Project, or AOSP, which lets users use source code to create or mod operating systems. Apple doesn’t have an open-source code, though some elements are less closed than others. So what does this look like for the average cell phone user?

iOS phones don’t have bloatware like Android and nearly everything is written in the same coding language with advanced chipsets – this allows for a more fluid user experience and greater control over third-party resources. It also can add to Apple’s clean user visual, minimizing home page and app clutter.

Android does support more third-party apps and multiple programming languages, which makes it far more flexible and customizable than an iOS device. For example, unlike Apple devices, you can permanently change an Android phone’s defaults, like an email client or web browser. Notably, regulatory pressure in the EU has pushed Apple to allow more third-party flexibility, so the difference between the two systems has narrowed somewhat.

Updates

Operating systems need regular updates to stay current with changing technology, app compatibility and security patches. Keeping your devices up to date is also the easiest and most affordable way to stay current on tech changes without buying a new phone every time a new feature is available.

Apple continues to lead in long-term software support, usually supporting devices for six or more years after launch. Google has made strides with its Pixel line, now promising seven years of OS and security updates. However, update availability across the wider Android ecosystem still varies by manufacturer and device tier.

Security

Privacy and security remain top concerns for smartphone users, with many worried about identity theft, fraud, stolen passwords, location tracking and undisclosed data collection. Apple’s closed ecosystem and strict App Store review process have historically given it an advantage in security. Android has improved in this area through features like Google Play Protect, but the open nature of the platform and the fragmented update landscape across manufacturers can still leave some Android devices more exposed. Whichever platform you choose, keeping your OS and apps updated is one of the most helpful security measures you can take.

Cost

While iOS is available only on Apple devices, you can find Android on a number of manufacturers’ devices, which gives Android users a bigger set of affordable options. iPhone users tend to have a higher average annual income ($85,000 vs. $61,000 for Android users), which may partly reflect the price difference between the platforms. Apple’s entry-level option is currently the iPhone 16e, but Android has mid-range and budget models available across a wide price range.

It’s also worth mentioning that iPhone users spend an average of $12.77 per app compared to $6.19 for Android users, and the Apple App Store generated $103.4 billion in revenue in 2024 versus Google Play’s $46.7 billion – figures that reflect the premium nature of the Apple ecosystem and its highly engaged user base.

If keeping costs low is your number one priority, consider shopping the certified refurbished smartphone market. At Gazelle, we carry some of the most popular iOS and Android devices at lower prices, and each phone has gone through thorough quality checks for appearance and performance, and you never have to sign contracts or pay hidden fees.

Support

Ongoing support is a big part of smartphone ownership, and that’s especially true if you’re investing money into a new device. With more than 270 Apple retail stores across the United States, Apple is a leader in brand-to-consumer support. They also offer AppleCare+, a service plan, for an extra fee.

AppleCare+ includes features like:

Extended coverage warranties

Support by phone, chat or app

Repair services

Business and professional support

While some Android manufacturers offer programs similar to AppleCare+, physical retail support locations are less consistent across the Android ecosystem, and some devices might not be eligible for a care plan depending on the manufacturer. Brand loyalty data reflects this support gap – over 90% of iPhone users choose another iPhone when upgrading, while Android user loyalty ranges between 70-80%.

An iPhone Might Be Right for You If…

Are iPhones better than Android phones? Many seem to think so. In addition to the design options and premium feel that have made Apple smartphones popular, iOS users praise the vastness of Apple’s device ecosystem, the App Store’s strict security standards and the absence of problematic bloatware.

You Already Have Apple Products

Apple users are famously loyal to the brand – and the numbers back it up. Over 90% of iPhone users choose another iPhone when upgrading, which makes Apple’s customer base arguably the most loyal in consumer tech. Many believe iPhones are better than Androids because of the number of Apple items users can sync activity across. Taking a picture with your iPhone? You can move it to your Mac for editing. Copying an important address from your Safari browser? You can use Universal Clipboard to paste it to your phone’s GPS.

While Android devices have similar integration features, few ecosystems are as easy or as interconnected as Apple’s family of iOS-enabled devices.

You Value Security and Privacy

Both operating systems have increasingly innovative and helpful security features. But Apple’s closed-source system gives them more control over what’s available on their platform and can add a layer of security against invasive third parties. Much of Google’s business model rests on collecting user data to create more customized browsing experiences. But Apple has little need for the same level of browsing data. Their standard OS updates mean they can also address any building security problems more quickly than Android’s historically slower update rollouts.

Regardless of which operating system you’re using, you should take proactive steps to protect your information, like:

Being cautious if downloading a third-party app or software to your device.

Downloading malware and antivirus apps.

Clearing data from your device before selling or recycling it.

Enabling features that help you locate misplaced devices.

Regularly clearing unwanted cache, cookies, apps and files from your phone and browser.

You Want a Premium App Experience

The Apple App Store and Google Play are now closer in total app count than they once were, with Google Play offering approximately 1.68 million apps and the Apple App Store offering around 1.55 million. However, app count alone doesn’t tell the full story. The App Store generated $103.4 billion in revenue in 2024 compared to Google Play’s $46.7 billion – a gap that aligns with the higher spending power of iPhone users and the premium nature of the iOS app ecosystem. iPhone users spend an average of $12.77 per app, compared to $6.19 for Android users.

Apple also continues to deliver this app value without bothersome bloatware – preinstalled apps and software that may slow performance, take up valuable storage space or be difficult to remove – while bloatware remains a top complaint among Android shoppers, and that’s also the case on budget devices.

An Android Might Be Right for You If…

Many smartphone users believe Android is better than iPhone because the OS is available on so many different types of phones – like Samsung, OnePlus, Google Pixel and Nokia. Android devices also use the very flexible USB-C connector for universal charging and data transfer. This wide inventory of product manufacturers has helped Android become the top operating system in the world, accounting for nearly 73% of the global market as of late 2025 – with over 3 billion active Android devices worldwide.

You Want a Variety of Price Points

Android’s biggest asset is the number of products it powers. Whether you’re shopping on a budget, hoping for a balance between design and performance or want to invest in a top-of-the-line smartphone with the latest features, you’ll have no issue finding an Android device to fit your lifestyle. Here’s a snapshot of the range you can expect in 2026:

Motorola Moto G Play (2024): ~$149.99

Nokia G300: ~$199.99

Google Pixel 8a: ~$499.00

OnePlus 13: ~$799.00

Samsung Galaxy S25: ~$799.99

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: ~$1,299.99

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: ~$1,899.99

You Want More Customization

Android’s open-source system gives users more options to rearrange and move apps, create shortcuts and adjust the interface launcher. They can also download third-party replacements, set new defaults for core services and apply themes across the system. Google’s Material You design language, which debuted with Android 12 and has continued to evolve through subsequent updates, lets the interface dynamically adapt to a user’s wallpaper, preferences and screen size – with a level of personalization that iOS still doesn’t match.

You Want More Storage Flexibility

Google’s cloud storage ecosystem – like Google Drive – has a place to create and store documents, spreadsheets and presentations that you can access from virtually any device linked to your Google account, including iPhones. Apple’s iCloud, while integrated into iOS, still has more limited cross-platform support by comparison.

Many Android devices also support expandable storage via microSD slots, giving users a hardware-level flexibility that Apple has never offered on its iPhones.

After 2018 saw Google securing a spot as the third top smartphone manufacturer in the United States, they released their 13th phone — the Pixel 5 — in October 2020. But at $699, is it worth the price tag? It all comes down to what you value in a smartphone. The Pixel 5 is a long-lasting device that excels at photography, and it’s available in a sleek, matte finish with a fun new color option. Its display is as vibrant as you’ve come to expect with Google Pixels, but with the addition of Smooth Display up to 90Hz for a truly memorable viewing experience.

Though the Pixel 5 does have its drawbacks — and may not be for everyone, like mobile gamers or dedicated iPhone users — it has a lot to offer. Read on to learn if the Pixel 5 is the right device for you.

Google Pixel 5 — The Breakdown

Before we begin exploring industry experts’ Google Pixel 5 reviews, let’s breakdown what we’re working with. One of the most applauded features of the Pixel 5 is the compact size.

Pixel 5 specs are:

5.7 inches tall.

2.8 inches wide.

6-inch diagonal display.

5.33-ounce weight.

Though it’s lightweight and easily portable, the Pixel 5 is far from flimsy. Its body is made out of a 100% recycled aluminum enclosure with ultra-strong Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the screen. If you like your smartphone with a side of style, you’ll love the new Sorta Sage color option. Otherwise, Just Black is the perfect neutral. Both colors have a matte-like finish for an added point of interest and a textured feeling. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the rear with supplemental PIN-entry. Additional features include IP68 dust and water resistance, HDR support and a built-in Titan M Security system.

For performance, the Pixel 5 relies on 8GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G octa-core processor. Though it’s a slight step back from previous phones, the 4,080Ah battery offers superior longevity. Pair it with an 18W fast charger for a quick refuel or choose from wireless and reverse wireless charging.

One of the new releases’ biggest drawbacks is you only get 128GB of storage and no option for a larger or smaller variation. This could be a problem for those who rely on their phone for bulk storage or need a device that can handle both business and pleasure. What you do get is 5G sub-6 and 5G mmWave capabilities, in addition to standard LTE, which will deliver increased speeds as 5G connectivity becomes accessible across more parts of the country.

About Android 11

The Pixel 5 ships with Android 11 and a minimum of three years of operating system and security updates. For new and returning Android OS users, Android 11 features improved security and privacy features, as well as:

Conversations: Android’s new conversations feature lets you read all your conversations from multiple messaging apps in a single, easy-to-access location. You can even highlight specific users and message threads as top-priority. The bubbles feature lets you communicate via chat bubbles that appear over your screen, ideal for multi-tasking.

Screen recording: Screen recording lets you record what’s on your screen, including sounds, for easy reference and sharing.

Voice access: Better and faster voice access gives you all the convenience you need for hands-free control, with both online and offline support.

Connected devices: Manage your other connected smart devices from a single location in your pocket, like smart locks, lamps and thermostats. You can also establish pre-set routines to set your smart home into motion on your way back from work or school.

Android Auto: Wirelessly connect your smartphone to your vehicle for music, podcasts, navigation and hands-free communication.

What About Camera Performance?

Let’s get down to the real selling point for smartphones in 2021 — camera quality. The Pixel 5 has the standard dual rear lenses with a selfie cam in the front:

Rear lenses: The first rear lens is a 12.2MP dual-pixel, while the other is a 16MP Ultrawide that delivers a whopping 107-degree field of view. But don’t discount the dual pixel lens as less impressive — the autofocus and phase detection gives your shot better focus faster than before.

Front lens: The fixed-focus 8MP in the front of the Pixel 5 delivers 83 degrees of vision for the perfect selfie or video chat.

If vlogging and video recording are at the top of your must-haves, you won’t be disappointed. The rear dual lenses in the Pixel 5 cameras shoot in 4K at 30 and 60 fps; 1080p at 30, 60 and 120 fps; and 720p at 240 fps. You can even get decent 1080p video at 30 fps in the front. Google users also get unlimited photo storage with Google Photos.

Pixel 5 vs. Previous Pixel Releases

The Pixel 5 gave a little processing power in exchange for a far superior battery, though some users are still unhappy with the bulky side bezels and lack of options. What other changes did Google make compared to their former fan-favorite releases?

Pixel 5 vs. Pixel 3

Google released the Pixel 3 in 2018 and, despite the large bezels and poor battery that stopped some from committing, reviewers praised its camera quality and vibrant display. It came equipped with the Snapdragon 845 processor, making the Pixel 5’s 765G a slight step backward, though their CPUs are similar.

One thing many users may appreciate in hindsight is that the Pixel 3 came with a 64GB storage option, something the Pixel 5 is lacking. It also weighed less in-hand and will be far more affordable now compared to a newer release. Because of its age, the most significant drawback of investing in a Pixel 3 now is that you will soon be out of range of Google’s three years of promised software and operating system updates. That’s not to say you can no longer update a Pixel 3 — you likely can through the end of the year, if not longer — but the Pixel 5 will receive guaranteed updates through at least 2023. With an outdated operating system, you risk having less protection, slower speeds, and some apps may not be compatible with your phone the more it ages.

Pixel 5 vs. Pixel 4a

Google’s most recent releases were the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 4a with 5G in late 2020. Both were more expensive debuts than the Pixel 5, but was the cost justified? The most significant upgrade has been to the battery life, with the 5’s lifespan nearly double that of its predecessors. The latest release has seen Google strip away many unnecessary, battery-draining features and focus more on usability.

Other changes you’ll see in the Pixel 5 compared to the more recent phones include:

Design: The matte finish was not present in the 4a and 4a with 5G, and the device is sized somewhere between its two predecessors, being larger and sturdier than the 5G and smaller than the standard Pixel 4a. The other models also have multiple storage options and audio jacks for headphones. Those factors aside, the design still feels familiar and distinct.

Photography: The Pixel 5 has improved dark shots with Night Sight and low-light portrait mode capabilities for better images than the 4a. It also has an extra rear camera and cinematic pan.

Smooth Display: Unlike the 4a and 4a with 5G, the Pixel 5 has a Smooth Display of up to 90 Hz for better fluidity.

Protection: In addition to its aluminum casing, the Pixel 5 packs more of a protective punch with Gorilla Glass 6 — an upgrade from the 4a’s Gorilla Glass 3 — and IP68 protection against dust and moisture.

Battery share: The battery is faster in the Pixel 5, and it’s compatible with fast wireless charging and battery share, so you can charge other devices using your phone — no cords needed.

How It Stacks Up to Other Top Performers

If your phone budget tops out at $700, the Pixel 5 wasn’t the only mid-range released in 2020. See how it compares to Apple and Samsung’s similarly priced phones — the iPhone 12 Mini and Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G.

Pixel 5 vs. iPhone 12 Mini

The iPhone 12 Mini is a similar price to the Pixel 5 at $699, and both have excellent displays and camera quality. Operating systems are obviously different — Apple is currently on iOS 14 — and Apple uses Bionic chip processing instead of Snapdragon.

Other key differences include:

The Google Pixel 5 has 8GB of RAM, while the iPhone 12 Mini only has 4GB.

The iPhone 12 Mini has several storage options available, including a 256GB option.

The Pixel 5 uses a fingerprint sensor, while the iPhone uses FaceID.

The two devices even come in similar green colors, with the iPhone 12 Mini also having a blue and red option in addition to neutral black and white. Your decision between these two devices comes down to brand loyalty or OS preferences. Some heavy-duty phone users, especially those who play many mobile games, might gravitate toward the slightly more powerful iPhone.

Pixel 5 vs. Galaxy S20 FE 5G

It’s a fair assessment to say that the Samsung Galaxy lineup is Pixel’s top competitor since both utilize the same Android operating system that sets users apart from Apple enthusiasts. Interestingly enough, Samsung owners account for the majority of people giving Pixel products a try, proving there’s room for improvement and innovation where Android users are concerned.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is available now at $699 brand new, putting it on the same playing field as the Pixel 5.

Color options: The Galaxy S20 FE 5G comes in several colors, including lilac and light orange hues that differentiate it from the Pixel lineup.

Front camera: Though the rear cameras shoot in equally excellent quality, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G’s front camera is 32MP instead of the Pixel’s 8MP.

Body design: The FE 5G lacks the same sturdy aluminum body that the Pixel 5 boasts, making it a less premium feel in-hand. Plastic is not as durable as metal construction, and the Galaxy is only available with a Gorilla Glass 3 screen, two factors worth considering if you can’t invest in a heavy-duty protective case.

Battery life: Battery life is comparable, with the S20 FE 5G having a 4,500mAh battery compared to the Pixel 5’s 4,080mAh. Both support wireless charging, but Samsung’s comes with multiple fast charging options instead of the single option you get with the Pixel.

Both phones have fingerprint sensor systems for security and privacy and are protected by IP68 dust and water protection.

Google Pixel 5 — The Verdict

The Google Pixel 5 gets solid performance despite its processor cutback and delivers on a much-needed battery improvement. The matte finish and Sorta Sage color option are ideal for those who value appearance as much as functionality, and the cameras are on par with others in its category. Compared to former Pixel phones, the Pixel 5 is not as powerful but does offer a vast improvement in battery life. The Smooth Display improves visual performance, while the aluminum construction and compact design feel like an expensive cell phone for less money than others with similar makeups.

It falls a bit short when you compare it to what its top competitors are offering for the same price. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G and iPhone 12 Mini, it’s only available in a single storage option. Its mid-range processing chip is enough to get the job done, but for the price point, you could get a slightly more powerful device from Apple or Samsung, or even an older Pixel phone.

Of course, buying a full-priced Pixel 5 is a great choice for you if you’re a loyal fan of the Google lineup or are excited to try out the new battery power and unique design firsthand. Another option is to shop used and refurbished Pixel 5 devices. That way, you get all the same perks for less. Buying used and refurbished is an easy way to shop at discounted prices while keeping unwanted devices out of landfills.

The Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy might be the two most popular and recognizable phones in the world, but the Google Pixel has been quietly climbing the charts as the fastest-growing U.S. smartphone brand with the release of the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a. Though Google has ceased production on the Pixel 3a and Pixel 4 to prepare for new releases — including the recent Pixel 4a — you can still find these models through used phone retailers and stores with remaining inventory.

What’s so special about the Google Pixel line? Maybe it’s the simple, modern design or availability of powerful mid-range options. Some might prefer the easy integration with existing Google Assistant devices and accounts. No matter your reason for choosing a Pixel, you have a handful of truly great options to choose from. Let’s review whether you should buy a used Pixel 3a, Pixel 4 or Pixel 4a, and how these three phones differ.

Google Pixel 3a: The Fan-Favorite Mid-Range

The initial release of the Pixel 3a was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, thanks to its affordability and powerful performance. Let’s take a closer look at why it became so many people’s new favorite phone.

Pixel 3a specs are as follows:

Height: 6.0 inches

Width: 2.8 inches

Depth: 0.3 inch

Display: 5.6 inches

Weight: 5.19 ounces

The Pixel 3a has a 2220-by-1080 pixel full high definition OLED resolution for a crisp, colorful picture. OLED displays are known for their brighter, more vivid colors and better refresh rates compared to traditional phone screens.

Performance

The Pixel 3a runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, which has a faster CPU, better graphics rendering and quicker download speeds than earlier processors. It also lends the phone AI capabilities. The operating system at the time of launch was Android 9.0 Pie, but Google includes a minimum of three-year operating system updates for Pixel phones. Although the battery is not wireless-charging capable, you can hook it up to a fast charger. The phone uses a single NanoSIM, 4 GB of RAM and has 64 GB of internal storage space available.

In addition to the always-on display, ambient light sensor and call screening abilities, enjoy the following features with the Pixel 3a:

Pixel Imprint: In place of a face unlock feature, the 3a has Pixel Imprint, a fingerprint sensor located on the back of the device for comfortable access.

Now Playing: Now Playing is an interesting addition for music lovers. Whenever your Pixel senses music playing nearby, it will display the song title and artist on your screen and track the information for later viewing.

Active Edge: Active Edge lets users physically squeeze the sides of the phone as a shortcut for things like silencing calls and alerting Google Assistant.

Perhaps the largest selling point for many Pixel 3a users is that the device comes with a built-in audio jack for headphones, something that is growing increasingly rare in the smartphone world.

Design

The Pixel 3a has a two-tone matte polycarbonate body with slight glossing on the back of the device. Though it looks similar to the Pixel 3, the bezel is slightly thicker. Choose from three color configurations — classic black, sleek white with an orange power button or a light purple with a bright green power button. The screen is protected with Dragontrail Glass and is not water-resistant.

Camera

For the low price, many users were surprised to find such an exciting camera on the Pixel 3a. It’s particularly good at low-light photography, thanks to Google’s Night Sight mode. Night Sight enables users to take pictures at night, in foggy conditions, in early morning light — any low-light setting that is typically difficult to capture with a mobile camera. You can also play around with built-in things like Time Lapse and Photobooth Mode.

Front camera: The 8 MP front camera has an 84-degree field of view and fixed focus with ƒ/2.0 aperture. It can record 1080, 720 and 480-pixel videos at 30 fps.

Rear camera: The rear camera is more powerful than the front, with a 76-degree 12.2 MP dual-pixel lens with ƒ/1.8 aperture, autofocus and image stabilization. Record 1080-pixel videos at 30, 60 and 120 fps, 720-pixel videos at 30, 60 and 240 fps, and 4K videos at 30 fps.

Google Pixel 4: The Elite Choice

When Google released the Pixel 4, they released something that could easily fill an iPhone or Galaxy-shaped hole in the user’s life, with impressive specs and a sleek appearance. Though they discontinued the Pixel 4 after only a year to make room for newer models, it’s still a great phone for anyone seeking something new and fresh in a sea of similar devices.

Here are the Pixel 4 specs:

Height: 5.7 inches

Width: 2.7 inches

Depth: 0.3 inch

Display: 5.7 inches

Weight: 5.7 ounces

Similar to the Pixel 3a, the Pixel 4 has a full high definition OLED resolution.

Performance

The Pixel 4 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, a significant boost from the 3a processor. There are 6 GB of RAM and either 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage space, as well as a single Nano-SIM and eSIM card. Enjoy the freedom of choosing between 18W fast charging or wireless charging.

In addition to the always-on display, ambient light sensor, Active Edge and Now Playing, the Pixel 4 also features:

Motion Sense: Motion Sense is a hands-free feature that lets you use your face to make digital payments and allows your phone to detect when you’re moving to unlock it — which you can do by simply looking at the screen.

Smooth Display: Smooth Display is the name Google’s given to its exceptionally smooth display and resolution.

Call Screen: Built-in Call Screen allows Pixel 4 users to filter out robocalls and telemarketing calls automatically.

One thing to note if you buy a Pixel 4a is the lack of headphone jack. You can still pair your favorite wired headphones with your device if you buy an adapter.

Design

Unlike the 3a, Pixel 4 is made out of a tough aluminum frame with dust and water protection, matte coating and a polished finish on the back. Choose either a simple black or clean white body, and enjoy the advanced protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is said to withstand most drops, even from heights.

Camera

Without a doubt, one of the biggest selling points for the Pixel 4 is the dual rear cameras that provide better angles and photo quality, as well as a strong portrait mode. Google opted for telephoto lenses inside of wide-angle, which is better for zooming. Enjoy Google’s Night Sight feature, as well as HDR Plus, which helps you get a great picture every time.

Front camera: The 8 MP front camera with ƒ/2.0 aperture boasts a 90-degree field of view with fixed focus and shoots 1080-pixel videos at 30 fps.

Rear cameras: The first rear camera has 16 MP and ƒ/2.4 aperture with autofocus, image stabilization and a 52-degree field of view. Videos shoot in 1080 pixels at 30, 60 or 120 fps, 720 pixels at 240 fps, and 4K at 30 fps. This pairs well with the second rear camera, which has 12.2 MP, ƒ/1.7 aperture and a 77-degree line of sight.

Google Pixel 4a: The New and Improved Mid-Range

The Pixel 4a is Google’s latest release, and the only mid-range phone they currently offer. It’s comparable to the 3a and more affordable from the start, with slightly increased performance specs and a sleeker design. Compared to the 4, the 4a is more budget-friendly with better-than-average specs for the price.

The specs for the Pixel 4a include:

Height: 5.7 inches

Width: 2.7 inches

Depth: 0.3 inch

Display: 5.8 inches

Weight: 5.04 ounces

The Pixel 4a has a 1080-by-2340 pixel, full high definition OLED resolution, a small step up from the Pixel 3a. When you consider a Pixel 4a vs. a Pixel 4, the 4a has fewer options and less powerful performance but better battery life. It’s also more affordable than the 4. Pixel 4a vs. 3a comes down to having all the latest technology and features and a more powerful Snapdragon processor with fast charging capabilities.

Performance

The 4a runs on 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, as well as a single Nano-SIM and eSIM. The processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G, which is optimized for a superior mobile gaming experience — a special feature for a mid-range phone. It’s running on the latest Android 10 system. Although the 4a reverts to cord-only charging, it brings back the built-in headphone jack that the Pixel 4 lacks.

Live Caption enables users to access on-screen captioning for calls and podcasts, as well as some third-party apps. This is in addition to many of the previously mentioned capabilities, such as:

Always-on display.

Now Playing.

Ambient light sensing.

Pixel Imprint.

Noise suppression.

Call Screen.

Design

The Pixel 4a’s body is made out of the same polycarbonate construction as the 3a, but with ultra-strong Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Although the 4a is only available in black, users will enjoy the thinner bezel that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 4 did not have. Unlike the Pixel 4, this phone is not water-resistant.

Camera

With the Pixel 4a, users still get Google’s Night Sight low-light photography feature, as well as impressive front and rear cameras for a mid-range model.

Front camera: The front camera is 8 MP with a fixed focus, 84-degree sightline and ƒ/2.0 aperture. It shoots 1080-pixel, 720-pixel and 480-pixel videos, each at 30 fps.

Rear camera: The rear camera offers a little more power with 12.2 MP dual-pixel phase detection, image stabilization, ƒ/1.7 aperture and 77-degree field of view. Videos shoot in 1080-pixel at 30, 60 and 120 fps. 720-pixel videos record at 30, 60 and 240 fps. 4K video brings you in at 30 fps.

Which One Is Right for You?

The decision to buy a Pixel 4a, Pixel 4 or Pixel 3a comes down to what you want out of a smartphone and your budget. The two mid-range models, the 3a and 4a, have lower price tags than most Pixel 4 models. The Pixel 4 is a more high-end option, with additional features and better performance. The Pixel 4 is water-resistant and more robust than it’s mid-range counterparts, but the Pixel 3a and 4a can still hold up against minor scratches and drops.

To summarize, the Pixel 3a is a great fit for anyone who wants:

An affordable mid-range phone with a decent camera and performance.

More than one color option to choose from.

4K video recording.

A built-in headphone jack.

The Pixel 4 is the top-of-the-line selection, for those who enjoy:

Top-performing specs and speed.

Powerful mobile photography and 4K video with dual-lens capability.

Dust and water protection.

A strong, protective Gorilla Glass 5 screen.

A sleek aluminum body.

Hands-free Motion Sense.

Wireless charging.

Finally, the Pixel 4a is the perfect choice for someone who needs:

The latest technology and processing power.

An affordable device that does not compromise performance.

A fresh, modern appearance in timeless black with thinner bezels.

A built-in headphone jack.

A superior mobile gaming experience.

Better-than-average photographs and 4K videos.

Each of these three models has a stunning OLED display, Google Night Sight, a front and rear camera, fast Snapdragon processing, a fingerprint sensor on the back and seamless integration with Google’s other devices, including Google Assistant. Whichever you choose, you’ll quickly learn why Google’s line of Pixel phones is growing increasingly popular.

Maybe you’re taking advantage of the new Galaxy S9 release, or maybe you’re simply looking to sell your pre-loved Samsung. Whatever your reason may be for trading in your device, it’s important to know your options. In this post, we’ll be breaking down the differences between trading in your Samsung to the original manufacturer, carrier, and third party sites.

OEM

Original equipment manufacturers (OEM) are companies like Apple, Samsung and Motorola. Upgrading with an OEM is preferred by those looking to put credit towards a device of the same brand. For example, Samsung is accepting phones for up to $300 credit towards a new Samsung but the phone must be in good condition in order to receive the store credit.

This is why a few different considerations come into play when dealing with the manufacturer. For one, your current device may be carrier locked (bought from Verizon, AT&T, etc). The OEM may offer less for a carrier locked phone as it limits the compatibility with other networks compared to an unlocked device from the OEM. As mentioned before, the trade-in must be in good, functioning condition to be eligible for store credit. That means money towards another purchase, not back in your own pocket.

CARRIER

Trading in your Samsung to your carrier is another option when upgrading. Each carrier varies with their upgrading program depending on the device and plan.

Verizon offers deals such as trade-in offers that vary in estimate depending on your Samsung’s carrier, storage, and condition. This is dispersed over a 30-month contract and applied to your monthly bill. Similar offers can be found across other carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint with the possible addition of promotions (i.e. a free phone when adding a line, a free tablet, etc).

Much like OEM trade-ins, the phone you sell back to a carrier also doesn’t provide immediate payout. They may even offer less for a competing carrier’s phone than a third party site. For those looking to see a faster return on investment, this option may not be right for you.

THIRD PARTY SITES

The web provides numerous outlets for selling your Samsung, or any personal device. Online bid and community sites such as Craigslist, eBay and Facebook serve as market places for more direct communication with the seller and purchaser. The pros and cons of these types of sites lay within the dynamic of the seller (and buyer), seeing as how it’s left up to both ends on how the transaction transpires. At first glance, these sites may appear to offer a better price, but this doesn’t include shipping and other fees.

For a secure, quicker way to get paid for your Samsung, check out our trade-in site. We’ll give you an instant quote on your device and even pay for shipping! There are also a few different payment options with Amazon Gift Card, PayPal or check.

Samsung’s newest smartphone was officially introduced to the public this past Sunday at Mobile Word Congress (MWC). The new Samsung Galaxy S9 brandishes more than a few notable upgrades and improvements, acting as an interesting response to Apple’s iPhone X.

Here are a few of the flashy new tricks up the Galaxy S9‘s sleeve.

Crisp and Clear Camera Upgrade

Courtesy of iDevice.ro.

One of the major updates in the Galaxy S9 is the dual aperture camera. For those who aren’t too keen to photography terms, the wider aperture makes it much easier to take a clear photo in dim lighting. The F1.5 mode pulls in light for dark settings, while the F2.4 mode automatically shifts to sharpen photos in light settings.

Another exciting addition is the enhanced slow motion shooting, called Super Slo-mo. We’ve seen the slo-mo rate provided on current smartphones, clocking in at roughly 240 frames per second. The Samsung Galaxy S9 takes a clear video and slows it down to a measured 960 frames per second, creating even more dramatic moments. This also lets you turn the video into a GIF, add music, and share instantly with one tap. (Samsung)

In response to Apple’s Animoji, Samsung introduced AR Emoji, the camera that turns you – as in your face – into a live emoji. All it takes is a quick scan of your face through a selfie.

Intelligent Scan

Although facial scanning isn’t exactly a new game changer, Samsung has combined an assortment of smart scanning to uphold premium security on the Galaxy S9. The options offered include iris, face fingerprint, pattern, pin and password unlocking.

Display and Appearance

The new Galaxy S9 sports a seemingly endless display with an edge-to-edge screen. The display was introduced on Sunday, along with the comment of “and as always, you know, there’s no notch”. The bezel blends in with the screen for a sleek, unending look. Accompanying the infinity display are two surround sound speakers on both sides of the phone tuned by AKG. Samsung has definitely done its homework on video user capability as this provides a more immersive experience for the viewer.

The exterior, although still similar to the Galaxy S8, is getting a revamp as well. Users will have their color choice of Coral Blue, Titanium Gray, Midnight Black or Lilac Purple.

Courtesy of Samsung Newsroom.

Other Notable Galaxy S9 Features

Here are a few more additions to get you excited for the Galaxy S9:

Wireless Charging

Water and Dust Resistance

Dual SIM Card (availability dependent on region)

Integration with Samsung DeX

Live visual language translation

Bixby AR assistant

Both wide angle and telephoto camera lenses

Optical Image Stabilization

4K Video recording

The Galaxy S9 boasts a 5.8” screen while the S9+ features a 6.2” display. Although it holds strong similarity in appearance to Galaxy S8, the new model is certainly a treasure trove of new enhancements to keep up with the competition. The phone will be available for pre-order on March 2nd, hitting the stores on March 16th.

It’s nearly impossible to pick up a phone or get through the day without running into emoji. Where did these familiar little cartoons come from anyway?

In honor of World Emoji Day (July 17th), here’s a little information about a language we can all understand.

It all began in Japan with Shigetaka Kurita, the acclaimed “Father of Emoji”. Kurita drew inspiration from working at DoCoMo when a new version of a pager was released. The new pager was intended more for business use than casual conversation, including the decision to drop the heart symbol that many teens used regularly. After seeing how crucial symbols were to texting, Kurita got to work on developing the first set of 176 black and white emoji.

The name itself stems from the Japanese word for pictograph, with the Japanese “e” (picture) and “moji” (character). Colored emoji began to surface around 1999 with the yellow faces that are still largely used to this day. This also marks the expansion into other countries, popping up on social channels and lifting off in mobile markets with the introduction of the iPhone.

July 17th, World Emoji Day

So, why July 17th for World Emoji Day? Apple announced the iCal calendar app on this date back in 2002, leading several fans to label this day as “International Emoji Calendar Day”. This happens to be the only marked date illustrated in Apple emoji.

It’s clear that these little symbols have had quite the impact on the way we communicate. With a growing 2,666 documented emojis and more to come soon, there’s no telling if the emoji train will ever slow down.

If you’re looking for a new phone to get your emoji fix on, check out our online store that’s overflowing with gently used iPhone, Galaxy and more.

After an explosive- uh, exciting 2016, Samsung is back and more ready than ever to release the new Galaxy S8. April 21, 2017 will bring us an incredible new contender to the smartphone arena with more than a handful of enhanced and innovative features. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of the next big release.

A Look At the Galaxy S8

1. Bixby AI Assistant

Step aside, Siri. There’s a new AI assistant in town, and it goes by Bixby. The all new virtual assistant utilizes voice, touch and text to complete tasks all while learning and adjusting to its user. Bixby slowly adapts to the way the owner operates the Galaxy S8. This provides curated shortcuts to specific apps you use in certain places at particular times. The new image search feature can even have Bixby scan the web for the fresh sneakers your friend sitting next to you is wearing, all with one quick snapshot.

2. Infinity Display

The infinity display is just about as cool as the way it sounds. There’s basically no bezel around the phone, creating a clean-cut screen. This is a major accomplishment in smartphone engineering, particularly with the radiant HDR-enabled face. An uninterrupted screen means nonstop visuals for all occasions, from your next big hike to streaming shows and movies at home. Not only is the physical aesthetic pleasing to the eyes, but the ergonomic round edges make it comfortable to grip. It’s quite the game-changer in terms of design.

3. Facial and Iris Recognition

Privacy was majorly upgraded for the Galaxy S8 with facial and iris recognition. One quick facial scan and your Galaxy S8 is immediately unlocked. It’s convenience at its finest in terms of accessing your phone. However, there’s already talk that the facial scan may be a little too fast for comfort. In any case, the technology is still pioneering past the standard four-tap lock codes. It’s like your favorite spy movie, IRL.

4. Next Level Selfies

There’s nothing like a solid selfie taken on the first try. The Galaxy S8 has been implemented with Smart Auto Focus to keep everyone in the shot clear and sharp. For the tech-specific details, it’s an 8 MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture. The rear facing camera stands true to the S7 model with a 12MP dual pixel sensor and 4K video shooting capabilities. With the flush-mounted rear camera, it still takes vivid and bright photos, even at night.

5. Overall Performance

Perhaps the largest big-picture upgrade with the Galaxy S8 is Samsung’s new 10nm processor. This is a HUGE step forward in chip tech and will prove to be a drastic improvement with current processor standards. The phone carries the same liquid cooling technology as the S7 with high hopes that disaster won’t strike once again with the batteries. Along with faster usage, the Galaxy S8 uses a new feature called “DeX” for docking capabilities that illustrate a desktop once placed on a separate USB-C equipped dock.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge have already created quite the buzz before the official release date on April 21st. Spectators are also anxiously awaiting the way Apple will respond with its iPhone 8 due in September. Who do you think will come out on top for best smartphone of 2017?
