Another year gone, another Apple release! We were all introduced to the new iPhone 16 lineup at the Apple Event held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California on September 9, 2024. All four new models bring some much needed upgrades and several exciting new features, but is it worth making the jump from your existing phone?

Let’s dive in to the latest and greatest from Apple to help you make an informed decision on your next upgrade.

iPhone 16 Performance

We’ll kick things off with the inside of the iPhone 16 line. All four iPhone 16 models run on Apple’s latest A18 processor. How does this compare to previous models? The base iPhone 16 models are up to 30% faster than the iPhone 15 running the A16 processor. The iPhone 16 Pro models running the A18 Pro processor are up to 22% faster than the A17 Pro processor.

The iPhone 16 also comes equipped with 8 GB of RAM, up from 6 GB in the iPhone 15, and storage options ranging from 128 GB up to 512 GB. Apple also notes the improved thermal design supports up to 30% higher sustained performance during intensive tasks like gaming. If you’re in the market for a smartphone that’s the fastest available, the upgrade may well be worth it.

Apple Intelligence Features

One of the most exciting additions to the iPhone 16 line is Apple Intelligence technology. The new Apple Intelligence features offer something for pretty much anyone in terms of AI features:

New writing tools for messaging, email and more

Image Playground app

Private Cloud Compute

Genmoji AI

AI upgrades to Siri for more natural and concise language understanding

Apple Intelligence is available via iOS 18 and later, supported on iPhone 15 Pro models and the entire iPhone 16 lineup. If access to the latest AI features is a priority for you, upgrading to an iPhone 15 Pro or newer is your best option.

Camera Control on iPhone 16

The other most noticeable upgrade to the iPhone 16 lineup is the new Camera Control button on the side of the phone. Not only is the new system a majorly convenient way to quickly snap pics and video, but it also acts as a scrolling tool to assist with camera settings.

The Camera Control button registers touch and gestures and enables several functions, including quickly accessing camera tools and switching between camera lenses and photographic styles.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models feature a 48MP main camera, a 2x telephoto camera, and a new ultrawide camera that allows for 2.6x more light. The baseline models also feature macro photography and spatial capture.

The iPhone 16 Pro models have 48MP main, 48MP ultrawide, and 12MP 5x zoom cameras. The iPhone 16 Pro’s zoom camera was upgraded from 3x to 5x zoom, bringing it in line with what was previously a Pro Max exclusive.

The Camera Control feature across all iPhone 16 devices makes this a compelling upgrade for avid photographers and videographers who rely on their smartphone.

iPhone 16 Design and Colors

On the backside, the base iPhone 16 models feature a refreshed oval camera design with vertically aligned cameras – a notable shift from the diagonal layout on the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 measures in at 6.1 inches, 7.8mm thin, and weighs just 170g, making it comfortable to hold and carry. The iPhone 16 Pro models feature the thinnest borders of any Apple product, creating more viewable screen area while maintaining the classic design Apple fans know well.

The iPhone 16 models are available in black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine.

Battery Life and Charging on iPhone 16

Apple delivered a meaningful boost in battery life with the iPhone 16. The base iPhone 16 supports up to 22 hours of video playback – approximately two hours more than the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 Pro Max continues to lead the lineup with up to 33 hours of video playback.

On the charging side, the iPhone 16 supports wired fast charging up to 45W and wireless charging up to 25W via the updated MagSafe charger – a significant jump from the previous 15W wireless ceiling.

iPhone 16 Pro Max Exclusive Features

If you’re looking to upgrade to the latest, greatest, and biggest, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is where it’s at. This model features a larger display, the A18 Pro chip, and the longest battery life in the lineup at up to 33 hours of video playback.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max also boasts a more advanced camera system and features four internal studio-quality microphones for improved audio recording – a notable upgrade for content creators and videographers.

Conclusion

The iPhone 16 series offers a meaningful range of upgrades, including a new camera system, a more powerful processor with improved thermal performance, increased RAM, better battery life, and faster charging. Starting at $699, it represents a solid value for those coming from an older device. The iPhone 16 Pro Max remains the most advanced model in the lineup for those who want the absolute best Apple has to offer.

It all depends on what your personal preferences are in a smartphone. If you’re camera savvy and want the latest and greatest, the iPhone 16 Pro line is your best choice. If you’re still deciding, the absolute best next step is to lock in the value of your current phone before you upgrade.

Each January, all the major players in the world of tech gadgets gather in Las Vegas for the annual Consumer Electronics Show. With more than 100,000 attendees each year, CES is where many top brands showcase their latest devices, and this year was no different.

Apple® and Samsung® headlined many of the 2024 tech releases announced at CES, showing off new phones, fitness wearables, transparent TVs, and even a spatial computing headset. Not to be outdone, competing brands like General Electric, LG, Intel, and JBL wowed the crowds with their next-generation tech gadgets. Nintendo® even joined the party, albeit through an unintentional leak revealing plans for its latest game consoles.

There was so much to see at CES 2024 that it can get overwhelming. Not to worry — we put together this guide to the 12 most exciting new tech releases of the upcoming year to help you hone in on your next purchases.

From some truly ingenious smartphones to groundbreaking medical devices, here are our most anticipated devices for what should be a banner year in the tech industry.

Apple Vision Pro

One of the most exciting tech gadgets debuting in 2024 is Apple’s entry into the virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) headset market. The Apple Vision Pro has a much higher price point than any competing product, but it has plenty of features to justify that expense. Think of it as a VR headset combined with Google Glass but with far greater capabilities than either of those devices on its own.

While the Vision Pro has a high starting price point of $3,499, it boasts some features that could blow away traditional VR headset models like the Meta Quest 3 ($499-649) and PlayStation VR 2 ($549). Not only is it Apple’s first 3D camera, but its mixed-reality display promises a level of immersion never before seen in consumer tech devices. Furthermore, its specs are all top-of-the-line, far outpacing what most competitors in the field can currently offer.

For instance, the Apple Vision Pro offers 4K image resolution with an impressive 5,000 nits of brightness, while the Meta Quest 3’s display maxes out at just 100 nits. (That’s right, the Vision Pro is a jaw-dropping 50 times brighter!)

In addition, both the Vision Pro and Meta Quest operate as standalone devices — a big advantage over Sony’s PlayStation VR 2, which only works when paired with a PS5 console. The Apple Vision Pro doesn’t even require a controller, as users can control it using eye movement, voice commands, and hand gestures instead of a physical keyboard or joystick.

While most competing AR and VR headset models focus primarily on gaming applications, the Apple Vision Pro is more ambitious. Apple calls the Vision Pro a “spatial computer,” as it blends its digital display with the physical space around the user, creating an immersive VR/AR experience that feels like less of a departure from real life.

However, it’s important to note that several highly popular app developers have indicated that they won’t immediately support Apple’s Vision Pro. Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube will all reportedly be unavailable at launch for Vision Pro users. Additionally, many rumors persist that Google and Meta might join that list, as both companies offer competing VR/AR headsets.

Samsung Galaxy S24 (Standard, Plus, and Ultra Models)

Like Apple, Samsung has several new gadgets worthy of spots on this list, starting with its Galaxy S24 phones. Compared to previous Samsung Galaxy models, the S24 devices are lighter and thinner, and they offer far higher refresh rates for gaming. At 2,600 nits, the Galaxy S24 phones also offer much brighter screens than any previous smartphone from Samsung or Apple (or most other competitors, for that matter).

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this year’s flagship Samsung phones is the introduction of AI features via Samsung’s proprietary Galaxy AI, which packs many valuable new features into these devices. For example, Galaxy AI can generate language translations in real-time. In other words, if you’re speaking English and the person on the other end is speaking Spanish, Galaxy AI can provide live translations via audio and text transcriptions, making the language barrier a thing of the past.

Additionally, Galaxy AI offers users the ability to perform Google image searches with just a tap of a finger, along with a generative edit function for photos that allows you to move, expand, or remove background subjects. Samsung even added extensive AI models to its cameras, vastly improving its already-impressive zoom capabilities, nighttime photography, and more.

While the S24’s standard ($799) and Plus ($999) models hit the same starting price points as their S23 counterparts, the top-of-the-line Ultra ($1,299) model gets a $100 price increase over the S23 Ultra. This price hike is likely due to the inclusion of a new advanced cooling system in the S24 Ultra, which could be worth it for users who do lots of gaming, along with a camera that packs a whopping 200MP, which ties the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra for the highest-megapixel phone camera ever produced.

As it turns out, consumers seem undeterred by the slightly higher price point. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series are smashing all previous records — on January 25, Samsung said that 1.21 million units have already been pre-ordered in South Korea alone, and roughly 60% of those were for the top-shelf S24 Ultra.

Rumored Apple iPhone 16 (Standard, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max Models)

Much like Samsung’s flagship phones will get an upgrade in 2024, so will Apple’s ever-popular iPhone. While the rumored iPhone 16 won’t debut until September, there are already plenty of rumors regarding specifications.

One persistent rumor is that the Pro and Pro Max models will boast larger screens than the 15 Pro models. Impressively, it also sounds like the iPhone 16’s OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens will require less power than previous models due to advancements in display efficiency, improving the devices’ battery life even in the models with bigger displays.

Another expected change is the inclusion of the popular Action Button from the 15 Pro models in all four iPhone 16 models. This multi-function button gives users easy, instant access to such actions as turning on the phone’s flashlight or camera, activating Focus Mode or Silent Mode, and turning on translation features.

There are also rumors about the iPhone 16’s camera setup. With the iPhone 15 models, Apple finally included a camera system that can compete with the best Android phones, and it sounds like the company has even bigger things in store for the 16 series.

While it almost certainly won’t match the megapixel count of the Samsung S24 Ultra’s incredible 200MP camera, rumor has it that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will integrate a brand-new Sony imaging sensor that supports high-tech features such as dual conversion gain and analog-to-digital converters. In short, these features could enable the 16 Pro Max to take photos with a much more broad dynamic range than any previous smartphone camera.

We expect to hear much more regarding Apple’s plans for the iPhone 16 series later this year. For now, there are plenty of juicy rumors flying around to pique our interest.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

Finally, it appears that the Oura Ring fitness tracker has some serious competition, as Samsung recently announced its own new smart ring. Like the latest iPhones, concrete details about the Samsung Galaxy Ring are sparse, as it isn’t expected to hit the market until at least the third quarter of 2024.

According to Samsung representatives, the Galaxy Ring will enable users to track their sleep patterns and spot potential signs of sleep apnea. In addition, it can indicate changes in blood oxygen and body temperature, while also providing alerts if it senses a troublesome heart rate. The smart ring will reportedly provide medication reminders and alerts regarding interactions between medications as well.

Buyers will be able to choose from a variety of sizes and colors, though it’s not yet clear if the Galaxy Ring will be available in more than one basic style. We couldn’t find any info on pricing or an exact release date, but it’s safe to say that the Galaxy Ring will be one of the most closely watched consumer tech developments of the year.

Apple Watch X

The Apple Watch celebrates its tenth birthday this year, and the company is reportedly celebrating with the release of a thinner, sleeker watch. While it’s not yet clear if the latest Apple watch will hit stores in late 2024 or early 2025, we’re already getting plenty of rumors about its design and features.

One such report says that Apple is designing a new MicroLED display, an updated version of LED technology that boasts longer battery life, better response times, brighter colors, and improved contrast. It also sounds like Apple is replacing its current bands with new magnetic bracelets, although this would end the Apple Watch’s longstanding tradition of making all models compatible with all band styles.

As for health features, Apple reportedly has some big plans in store, including blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection. Additionally, there are rumors that Apple is working on an infrared blood glucose monitor for the next generation of its wearable tech, although this feature might not be ready for the Apple Watch X.

One feature you likely won’t see with the latest iteration of Apple’s smartwatch is blood oxygen readings via pulse oximetry technology. In late 2023, the U.S. International Trade Commission temporarily banned sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 due to patent infringement issues regarding their pulse oximetry tech.

While the ban has been lifted and both watches are back on the market, Apple could use all the good press it can get regarding its next smartwatch. Based on the early rumors, we feel like the latest version could be the most impressive one yet!

GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker

CES 2024 also had some exciting new kitchen devices on display, including General Electric’s groundbreaking new smart indoor smoker. While a traditional smoker requires a relatively large outdoor area with plentiful ventilation, GE’s new device changes everything you thought you knew about smokers. The appliance’s active smoke filtration technology allows users to smoke meats, cheeses, spices, and more from the comfort of their kitchens.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker is its small footprint, as it’s only slightly bigger than an air fryer or toaster oven. It has a built-in probe-style meat thermometer, a transparent glass front door, and an interior lightbulb that makes it easy to keep an eye on your foods as they smoke.

The GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker also uses far fewer wood pellets than a traditional outdoor smoker, and it’s simple to customize the level of smokiness in any food. At $999, this revolutionary kitchen gadget is already available on store shelves.

Transparent TVs (Samsung Transparent MICRO LED TV and LG Signature OLED TV)

It’s a big year for new tech gadgets at Samsung, as it’s one of two companies (along with LG) that’s debuting a transparent TV. Samsung is no stranger to producing innovative televisions that merge seamlessly with their environments, as its popular Frame TV has blended into gallery walls in homes around the world since 2017.

LG and Samsung are using slightly different methods to produce these see-through TVs. The LG Signature OLED TV has an OLED screen that uses organic light emitters to illuminate each pixel, while the Samsung TV utilizes inorganic emitters which are similar to the technology in typical LED displays.

Either way, the result is a screen that’s not just see-through but also has better image clarity and contrast than a normal TV. Another impressive aspect of transparent TV technology is the fact that it has virtually unlimited options regarding screen size. Imagine watching your favorite streaming services on a super-high-definition, movie-theater-sized display from the comfort of your own home — it’s a distinct possibility thanks to these new TVs.

While these TVs might be prohibitively expensive at first — Samsung’s standard MICRO LED TVs cost up to $150,000, and that’s for the non-transparent model — movie nights will never be the same once these companies produce a more affordable version of their new screens.

Intel Core Ultra Processor

Intel is poised to make a big splash in 2024, thanks to its new Core Ultra CPUs. The specs on these new processors are undeniably impressive and represent a big upgrade over previous models.

Intel representatives say they’re 11% faster for multithreading applications (in which the CPU executes two or more programs at the same time) than any competing chips from AMD, Qualcomm, or Apple, and they use 25% less power than Intel’s previous generation of processors. There’s even a “neural processing unit” for AI integrations.

You can expect to see the Intel Core Ultra Processor used in a broad selection of new Windows PCs in 2024, including those from Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, Asus, and MSI. Even better is the fact that they won’t cost an arm and a leg, as some models like the Acer Swift Go 14 start at just $999.99.

Nintendo Switch 2

One of the most widespread rumors in the gaming world is that the Nintendo Switch 2 will debut sometime in 2024, likely around the start of Q4, just in time for the holiday season. Like some other devices in this guide, concrete details are slim at this point (Nintendo won’t even confirm that they’re working on a Switch 2 at all), but that’s not stopping people from getting excited about the possibilities.

Leaked emails between Nintendo and Activision imply that the Switch 2’s hardware will be roughly comparable to last-gen console systems like the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One, which were both released in 2013. Of course, the Nintendo Switch products are hybrid devices capable of mobile gaming, so it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

It remains to be seen whether the Switch 2 will support 4K images or stick to 1080p high-def imagery. Interestingly, one popular rumor says Nintendo might ditch the higher-quality screen of the Switch OLED from 2021 and return to an old-school LCD screen as a cost-cutting measure.

Gamers can likely expect improved battery life and faster internal memory, and early rumors also suggest Nintendo will make the Switch 2 backward compatible with previous iterations of the Switch, meaning you can play games made for the original Switch on the Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to retail for around $400.

Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Wireless Headphones

Bluetooth earbuds have become widely popular over the years, although audiophiles have often complained that Bluetooth’s bandwidth limits result in subpar audio quality. However, the introduction of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology — currently used in devices like Apple AirTags — could produce another mobile audio revolution in 2024.

The significantly wider bandwidth capabilities of UWB have made it possible to produce lossless high-resolution audio in wireless headphones, a breakthrough that could leave the now-ubiquitous Bluetooth earbuds in the dust. Another big advantage of UWB is the fact that it’s incredibly energy-efficient, meaning these new wireless headphones could last for days between charges.

What’s even better is that the vast majority of modern smartphones already support UWB technology, including phones as old as the iPhone 11 (2019), Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus (2021), and Google Pixel 6 Pro (2021). The Canadian company PSB Speakers (which recently celebrated a half-century in business) will produce the first UWB wireless headphones to hit the market.

So, what’s the catch? The only negative of UWB technology for wireless headphones is the fact that, compared to Bluetooth, it has a very short range. For instance, Bluetooth headphones can still produce audio of reasonable quality up to 100 feet away from the host device, but UWB headphones could cut out if you wander a mere ten feet from your phone.

JBL Bluetooth Speakers

There are tons of Bluetooth speakers on the market these days, but JBL continues to impress with its combination of modern features and reasonable pricing models. JBL announced three new portable speakers at CES 2024: the Xtreme 4 ($379.95), Clip 5 ($79.95), and Go 4 ($49.95).

The JBL Xtreme 4 really lives up to its name, as it boasts impressive dustproof and waterproof capabilities. It incorporates JBL’s new AI Sound Boost tech, which uses AI to cut distortion and promote clearer (and louder) audio output. It has six speakers (two drivers, two subwoofers, and two of JBL’s proprietary Bass Radiators) and an impressive 24-hour playback time between charges.

The JBL Go 4 is the company’s smallest speaker, but it still incorporates the Xtreme 4’s dust and water resistance. It also offers seven hours of battery life, which is impressive for such a tiny device that costs less than 50 bucks.

Meanwhile, the Clip 5 wireless speaker splits the difference between the Xtreme 4 and Go 4. True to its name, the Clip 5 has a carabiner that allows users to attach it to just about any item, from backpacks to belt loops. Compared to the previous Clip 4 model, this wireless speaker has much greater bass performance, while still offering 12 hours of playback time.

Withings BeamO Health Multiscope

CES 2024 also had some exciting medical devices to discuss, including the Withings BeamO device, marketed as the world’s first “four-in-one vital monitor.” The device is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration but is expected to cost around $220 when it gains FDA clearance and hits the consumer market.

The impressive device includes four sensors: a contactless thermometer, a digital stethoscope, an electrocardiogram, and a miniature oximeter. This means that this one device can measure body temperature, gauge heart and lung health, detect cardiovascular issues, and assess blood oxygen levels.

While the BeamO could prove useful for a wide variety of individuals keeping track of their vitals, Withings says it will be especially valuable for people with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They can track their own health statistics at home, cutting down on costly and time-consuming trips to the doctor’s office for checkups.

The Withings BeamO has a companion app that transfers data to your doctor, as well as telemedicine functions that provide audio streams between doctors and patients. Once it gains FDA approval, the BeamO could be legitimately life-changing for individuals with chronic diseases that require consistent monitoring.

It’s mid-September, which can only mean one thing: the annual Apple Event. Each year, top representatives from the company gather to showcase some of the brand’s newest devices, gadgets, and software iterations. Here’s what we saw at the 2023 Apple Event.

Out of the gate, Tim Cook appeared with updates about the 15” MacBook Air and the rest of the lineup, noting how capable their latest computing devices are. Cook also mentioned new developments around Apple Vision Pro, the company’s approach to AR-enhanced content and spatial computing.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is known for keeping users healthy, active, and engaged. So, how does Apple improve on an already successful product? The next generation of Apple Watch comes loaded with exciting features that push the device further.

Using Apple Silicone to power the watch and proprietary chips that integrate with the watch OS, the watch can help you monitor workouts and sleep schedules, and even detect car crashes. The watch uses an S9 CPU with 5.6 billion transistors, making it much quicker than the previous model. This adds to smoother animations, more immediate task loading, and faster app launches.

In addition, the Series 9 Apple Watch boasts an 18-hour battery life. You can use Siri and integrated smart home devices to close your garage, start apps, or set alarms. Siri now loads from the device using a neural engine and a more advanced model that makes results more accurate and allows for speedier responses.

Siri can also access your health data, sleep information, heart rate, and much more with a simple question. Siri’s health features will launch in English and Mandarin later this year, with additional languages coming after.

Watch OS 10 has a feature called “Name Drop,” where you can quickly exchange contact information via wristbands. The ultra-wideband chip enhances the device’s Find My features, offering haptic and audio feedback to help guide you to your iPhone or tablet.

The Apple Watch can also integrate with the HomePod to seamlessly control music, podcasts, and other audio. It uses an edge-to-edge retina display and 2,000 nits of brightness, double that of the Series 8. Dark mode goes down to just one nit so you can sleep without your watch waking you up.

Series 9 also enables new gesture-based controls. By tapping your index finger and thumb together twice, you can single-handedly answer and end calls. Apple calls this feature “Double Tap,” and it can also snooze alarms, play music, and launch your widgets.

Series 9 will be available in Pink Aluminum and other colors like Starlight and Midnight. The Series 9 also has stainless steel options and will come with several band selections, including woven and knitted bands alongside molded rubber.

The Apple Watch Series 9 launches on September 22nd and starts at $399.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

If you want the latest and greatest from Apple’s rugged wearable line, you’ll be interested in the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The Ultra 2 is a durable watch that can withstand severe conditions, using the S9 SiP for Double Tap gestures and voice-activated waypoints. The Ultra 2 also has a new display architecture that hits up to 3,000 nits, making it Apple’s brightest.

The watch face is Modular Ultra, showing altitude, depth, and other custom settings. Night mode also uses ambient light sensors to adjust the display automatically.

The Ultra 2 can connect to Bluetooth devices for runners and cyclists to measure cadence, speed, and power. You can also use the Ultra 2 to record altitudes for hikes and depths for dives, storing information seamlessly after each excursion.

The Ultra 2 gets up to 36 hours of battery life on a single charge and up to 72 on Low Power Mode, making it an excellent choice for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, and explorers.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 launches on September 22nd and starts at $799.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15+

iPhone 15 boasts a more capable Dynamic Island that lets you see flight updates, game scores, and other live information. It will use iOS 17, which introduces the Standby feature, activated by turning your device on its side while charging.

iPhone 15 uses a Super Retina XR Display with OLED Technology and support for Dolby Vision. The iPhone 15 reaches 1,600 nits of brightness on a 6.1” screen, and the 15 Plus reaches 2,000 nits on a 6.7” screen, making them brighter and more vibrant than ever.

The series comes in several colors, including pink, yellow, blue, green, and black. Each device is polished with nano-crystalline particles and then etched to give it a smooth feel. Also, the ceramic shield provides superior drop and shock resistance while the device maintains robust water and dust resistance.

The camera received several upgrades, jumping to a whopping 48 megapixels, which can maximize your image and video resolution and capture fine details even while zoomed in. The device uses computational photography and sensor groups that cluster pixels together for better light capture. Then, the engine optimizes the light capture and combines it with a high-resolution image for superior details to create a 24-megapixel photo.

With a central 12-megapixel camera, the device enables 2X telephoto zoom and image stabilization, leading to more precise, crisper images. You can frame scenes using the 4K Cinematic Mode, which also includes enhanced portrait photography capabilities.

The iPhone 15 uses machine learning to recognize when there’s a subject in the shot and automatically introduces rich depth touches to the finished images. Hence, you never have to worry about forgetting to turn on Portrait Mode. You can also switch the focus in images even after the picture is taken, making it simpler to capture the right shots.

Night mode provides better dark scene lighting and true-to-life colors than ever before. The iPhone 15 uses Smart HDR technology to provide brighter highlights and richer deep tones without compromising the image’s overall quality.

The iPhone 15 uses the A16 Bionic Chip previously introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro. The A16 chip enables the camera’s processing needs and lends itself to photography, voicemail transcription, and gaming, all while using less power than the A15 chip.

The iPhone 15 Plus naturally offers a larger battery than the standard 15, though both provide lengthy browsing, gaming, and streaming times depending on usage levels and your power-saving mode.

Like the new Apple Watch, the iPhone 15 includes the U2 ultra wideband chip for better location services, connectivity, and device finding. iPhone 15 uses more advanced machine learning that prioritizes your voice. You can also use the Voice Isolation tool to filter out background noise, meaning clearer calls and less confusion.

Apple also confirmed that they’re bringing USB-C to the iPhone family, and now users can rely on the same cable to charge all of their USB-C-enabled devices. Though the brand has finally moved away from the Lightning charger, its devices still include MagSafe to keep chargers in place.

The iPhone 15 launches on September 22nd at $799 for the base model and $899 for the Plus.

iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 15 Pro comes powered by the most advanced Apple Silicone yet and uses high-quality titanium to create lighter, more durable Pro models. The Pro model also includes finely contoured corners and thin edges for maximum screen size. Much like the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, the Pro comes in two sizes: 6.1” for the iPhone 15 Pro and 6.7” for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The iPhone 15 Pro build includes a titanium alloy identical to that used to craft the Mars Rover. Using aluminum on the inside makes the device better at thermal dissipation, which can help prevent the device from overheating. The Pro lineup has black, white, blue, and natural titanium options and uses 100% recycled aluminum in the finished product, contributing to the brand’s 2030 carbon reduction goals.

iPhone 15 Pro has also retooled the action button and made it more customizable. You can still switch between Ring/Silent with a press of the button or customize it to start voice memos, launch cameras, open accessibility features, or launch other apps and shortcuts. Each interaction gives you visual feedback on the Dynamic Island alongside haptic device feedback.

The Pro boasts some performance gains over the 15 and 15 Plus. The new generation includes the latest Apple Silicone, using the industry’s first three-nanometer chip, the A17 Pro, to enable ultraviolet photography.

The device’s performance cores are now up to 10% faster, with speeds that can challenge high-end computers, and the efficiency cores received upgrades, too. The neural engine is now roughly twice as fast, processing 35 trillion operations per second. Like the other devices, the Pro has USB-C connectivity alongside an included USB controller for USB-3 speeds up to 10 gigabits per second, up to 20x faster than USB-2 transfer speeds.

The new CPU and GPU enable greater efficiency, peak performance, fast rendering, photographic ray tracing for better light and reflections, and greater control than previous Apple devices, making the Pro series a must for high-end tech enthusiasts.

As for the camera, it blends multiple lenses, computational power, and strong hardware to create a device with the equivalent of seven camera lenses. Like other models, it uses a 48-megapixel camera but also includes a larger sensor for stronger Night Mode photos and better light capture.

The device can shoot high-definition photos in 24, 28, and 35mm and also includes stronger focus and depth control alongside macro photography options with 10x zoom options for a powerful, multipurpose camera.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max launch on September 22nd at $999 for the Pro and $1,199 for the Pro Max, starting at 256 GB of storage.

As it creeps ever closer to September, that can only mean one thing for tech enthusiasts: a new iPhone launch. Traditionally, Apple observes a September launch window for their flagship devices, and we have no reason to assume they’ll switch things up for their 2023 release. While we await what Apple confirms for the iPhone 15’s specs, features, and colors, we have plenty of rumors, leaks, and whispers to sift through.

From base model and Pro bezel rumors to potential updates to the Dynamic Island and charging compatibility, here are a few things to look out for ahead of the rumored iPhone 15 launch in September 2023.

Prepare for the switch from Lightning charging to USB-C.

One area where Apple often falters is in charging compatibility. iPhones traditionally relied on proprietary Lightning chargers, part of the manufacturer’s efforts to create a walled-off iPhone ecosystem. However, with shifting charging standards and regulations, the rumored iPhone 15 Pro and Max lines are reportedly jumping to USB-C with USB 3.2 support.

This means that users are liable to get much faster charging and data transfer speeds. In contrast, the rumored base iPhone 15 model will likely still support USB-C with a cap at USB 2.0 compatibility, much like the existing Lightning-based models.

Thinner bezels are on the horizon.

Apple has followed a fairly standard template for iPhone releases for a few years. While there have been cosmetic changes here and there, the manufacturer hasn’t tinkered too much with bezels, shapes, and sizes outside of the standard differences between base and Pro models.

As rumored by Apple Insider, the smartphone manufacturer is set to use new techniques to effectively shrink the display border from 2.2mm to 1.5mm, which may sound small but offers a notable increase in viewable screen size. We may see Apple attempt similar adjustments with its iPads depending on how this process works out.

Expect camera improvements across the board.

A new iPhone release naturally comes with camera improvements, enhancements, and adjustments. Previous iPhone models boast robust cameras but limited optical and digital zoom features, particularly when compared to Samsung’s Galaxy lineup. However, Apple looks to remedy that with rumored iPhone 15, including potential enhanced zoom features on the Pro and Max models, which may release behind the base 15.

However, there is one caveat to the improvements rumored for the Pro and Max lines: price hikes. Though the iPhone 14 didn’t hit a significant price hike during its release window, rumored iPhone 15 models likely will.

A few miscellaneous rumors may or may not come true.

Including alleged manufacturing delays due to underperforming LG screens, customizable action buttons, and a more repairable design, some of the upcoming iPhone 15 rumors remain to be seen. One of the most significant potential improvements is increased LiDAR Scanner capabilities for better AR and nighttime performance. Apple will also likely move to an e-SIM-only model for several more countries after it started doing so in the United States with the iPhone 14 release.

If you’ve compared Androids and iPhones and decided to go with an Apple product for your new cell phone, the next step is picking the right model for you. When picking an iPhone, consider style and functionality. Color is a big factor when picking a phone. The Apple® iPhone has a number of color options that change with each generation and model, and it gives you plenty of alternatives to fit your taste.

While cell phones are tools, they’re also an extension of our style. Many choose a cell phone that expresses their personality while giving them the features they need. From classic neutrals to bold and vibrant hues, you have a few color options for your next iPhone – and the data shows that those options matter more than ever.

Sales patterns show clear trends in how people shop by color. For the iPhone 16 Pro lineup, Black Titanium dominated with 50% of the pre-order vote in a TechRadar survey, followed by Desert Titanium at 32%. Across all iPhone 16 Pro sales, Black Titanium captured 42% of purchases while Natural Titanium accounted for 35% – it makes sense, then, that over 80% of business iPhone deployments use black or natural titanium, according to Apple retail partners and carrier sales data from late 2024 into early 2025.

On the standard models, color patterns skew more expressive. Ultramarine was the clear favorite for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, chosen by 49% of respondents in pre-order surveys – this mirrors earlier patterns – 27% of iPhone 14 and 14 Plus buyers chose Blue, and 42% of iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max owners selected Deep Purple. Younger buyers are especially drawn to bold options, with shoppers under 25 picking colorful finishes 40% more than those over 35.

If you want a phone that fits into professional settings or simply prefer a classic look, darker neutrals like Black or Natural Titanium are the crowd favorites. But if color is how you express yourself, you’re in good company – Apple’s lineup continues to give you options that go well past basic black and white.

iPhone Color Guide

With a number of iPhone colors to choose from, you can choose a new cell phone that goes well with your style – or one that shakes things up and can add some flair. Check out the color options for each model in this iPhone color guide:

iPhone 16

iPhone 15

Apple released the iPhone 15 lineup in September 2023. The standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus introduced a color-infused back glass with a frosted finish, available in five colors:

Black

Blue

Green

Pink

Blue: This blue leans toward a powder or slate tone. It was the most popular color choice for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, with 27% of buyers selecting it.

Purple: A soft lilac, chosen by 22% of iPhone 14 and 14 Plus buyers.

PRODUCT(RED): Apple’s vibrant red, with a portion of proceeds going to the Global Fund’s HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Africa.

Midnight: A black tinted with navy blue, a versatile neutral.

Starlight: A warm twist on white with gold-tinged edges and a pearly back.

Tips for Choosing the iPhone Color That’s Right for You

With this many color options, how do you choose which iPhone color is a fit for you? Even after comparing several newer iPhone models, picking a color can seem a bit scary. Here are a few tips so you can make the choice:

1. Match Your Case

If you use an iPhone case, it’s worth picking a phone color that pairs well with it. If you ever get tired of your iPhone’s color, switching up your case is far cheaper than buying another phone. Any neutral color – Midnight, Black Titanium, Natural Titanium or Starlight – will complement a number of cases. Bolder colors like Ultramarine or Teal are best shown off without a case or in a clear one.

2. Complement Your Other Tech

Apple has loyal customers who own multiple devices. If you want a better look across your setup, consider matching your iPhone to your MacBook or iPad. For instance, a Natural Titanium iPhone 16 Pro pairs beautifully with a MacBook in a similar neutral tone. If you like a bolder look, a PRODUCT(RED) iPhone or an Ult

Find Your Next Used iPhone at Gazelle

If you’re in the market for an iPhone, you have a number of color options to choose from. Whether you like the sleek sophistication of Black Titanium – which captured 42% of iPhone 16 Pro model sales – or a strong, expressive hue like Ultramarine, which topped pre-order surveys for the iPhone 16 with 49% of the vote, there’s an iPhone color that matches your personality. Classic neutrals dominate business and professional buyers, with over 80% of business deployments picking Black or Natural Titanium. But buyers under 25 choose colorful options 40% more than those over 35. No matter your style or preference, the data shows there’s no wrong choice.

Whatever iPhone color resonates with you the most, Gazelle has you covered. At Gazelle, we look at all our used devices and give you a certified quality guarantee.

With the latest Apple® iPhone release, many users have a choice to make — the new iPhone 14 or the now-more-affordable iPhone 13. Both are excellent devices that offer top-of-the-line smartphone experiences. Apple didn’t make many major changes to the latest iteration, but if you’re ready for an upgrade or looking to switch to iPhone, either option might be right for you. From the pocket-sized iPhone 13 mini to the feature-packed iPhone 14 Pro Max, there’s a lot to consider.

Let’s take a closer look at the iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 and see how they compare.

iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 14

Both lineups come with standard and Pro models, with the Pro models getting some premium features like a better camera system and slick display technology. We’ll start with the standard models.

The iPhone 13 comes in two sizes, so you can choose from the iPhone 13 mini or the iPhone 13. They offer very similar specs, but the mini packs it all into a smaller package. It has a smaller screen and less battery life, but the two models are otherwise virtually identical.

The iPhone 14 has a similar situation in the opposite direction. In 2022, Apple nixed the mini and replaced it with a Plus model. The iPhone 14 Plus has very similar specs to the iPhone 14 but with a larger screen and battery.

Here’s what you can expect with the iPhone 13 vs. 14:

Design

If you pick them up, you probably won’t notice a difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. Both have the same glass-and-aluminum build with a glossy back and durable Ceramic Shield on the front. Apple has all but perfected the iPhone’s sleek design with flat edges and slightly rounded corners, so that look has stuck around.

Both the iPhone 14 and 13 share:

Diagonal dual-camera systems.

The same-sized notch for the front cameras.

Face ID with no physical home button.

IP68 water resistance.

MagSafe compatibility for chargers, cases and more.

The standard models even weigh the same, but the 13 mini is much lighter than the 14 Plus. The 13 mini and 13 weigh in at 4.97 and 6.14 grams, respectively, while the 14 and 14 Plus weigh 6.07 and 7.16 ounces.

As far as colors go, you can get midnight, starlight and (PRODUCT)RED on either the 13 or the 14. The 13 and 13 mini also come in pink, blue and green, while the 14 and 14 Plus come in light blue and purple options.

Display

The display of these devices is exactly the same. Both the 13 and 14 have Super Retina XDR technology on an OLED display. They also both have high definition range (HDR), True Tone display and Haptic Touch. HDR gives you a wider range of color, while the True Tone display adjusts the light on your screen to the surrounding environment for more accurate images. Haptic Touch refers to the iPhone feature in which you can pull up secondary information or shortcuts by holding down your finger in a “long press.”

With 800 nits max brightness and 1,200 nits peak brightness on HDR, you should have a clear view of your screen even in harsh sunlight for either the iPhone 13 or 14.

Cameras

As expected, the 14 got a few camera upgrades. While both the 13 and 14 have 12MP rear cameras, the 14 got some extra perks, including:

A larger main sensor for better low-light photos.

A larger f/1.5 aperture on the Main camera vs. the 13’s f/1.6.

A larger f/1.9 aperture on the front camera vs. the 13’s f/2.2.

The Photonic Engine for more detail and texture in photo processing.

Autofocus on the front camera.

Action mode video recording for super-stable footage.

Support for 4K HDR in Cinematic mode.

Second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization for clearer, steady shots.

Every iPhone 13 and 14 has:

2x optical zoom out and up to 5x digital zoom for photos.

2x optical zoom out and up to 3x digital zoom for videos.

Portrait mode, Night mode and Cinematic mode.

Photographic Styles for specific effects.

First-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization.

4K, 1080p and HDR recording with framerates from 24-60 frames per second.

Slo-mo, Time-lapse and Night mode Time-lapse recording.

Pricing

If you’re looking for an affordable phone, the 13 is your best bet. It dropped in price after the iPhone 14 came out, and the entry-level option for the 13 is the mini rather than the standard option, so you can get a cheaper flagship device. The current retail prices of the 13 mini and 13 start at $599 and $699, respectively. For a new 14, you’d start off at $799 for the standard model and $899 for the 14 Plus.

If you buy used, you can expect to save significantly. You can find an iPhone 13 mini for under $500 and an iPhone 13 for under $600.

Performance and Features

Surprisingly enough, the iPhone 14 didn’t get an updated processor. It still uses the same A15 Bionic chip that the iPhone 13 has. However, the 14 — as well as the 13 Pro models — have an extra 5-core graphics processing unit (GPU) that should give gamers a boost with super-responsive graphics.

Despite the older chip, the A15 Bionic should be more than enough for most users. Still, if you worry about your phone’s longevity or getting the fastest performance possible, you can upgrade to the 2022 A16 Bionic chip with a 14 Pro model.

Of course, the processor isn’t everything. Apple added some useful safety and accessibility features to the iPhone 14, including Crash Detection, which uses advanced sensors in the phone to detect if you’ve been in a car crash and automatically contact emergency services. The 14 also offers Emergency SOS via satellite. It can contact satellite-based services to help if you get into trouble without a cell signal. The 13 models still have an Emergency SOS function, but it uses cellular networks, not satellites.

The iPhone 14 also eliminates the physical SIM card tray, so you’ll need to use eSIM. If you’re not familiar, your SIM card is the tiny card in your phone that connects you to your wireless carrier and your phone plan. Traditionally, these are physical cards that fit into a slot, but Apple’s moved to a fully virtual version. Many people who travel a lot or have separate plans for personal and work phones benefit from this feature and easy SIM transfers.

Both phones offer plenty of Apple-standard features like:

Apple Pay.

Face ID.

FaceTime video and audio.

5G support.

Siri.

Battery and Storage

Apple usually gives its phones a modest bump in battery life with each iteration. Here’s how battery life stacks up for the iPhone 14 vs. 13:

iPhone 13 mini: Up to 17 hours of video playback

iPhone 13: Up to 19 hours of video playback

iPhone 14: Up to 20 hours of video playback

iPhone 14 Plus: Up to 26 hours of video playback

All phones have the same charging capabilities, including wireless charging and fast charging. The 13 and 14 phones can reach up to a 50% charge in 30 minutes with a 20W adapter. Although some rumors might have suggested a switch to USB-C, Apple stuck with the Lightning charger.

Internal storage options for both models include 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

iPhone 13 Pro vs. iPhone 14 Pro

If you want something more premium, consider one of the Pro models. Like the standard models, you have two different sizes to choose from, and those two sizes are the same for both the 13 and 14 lineups. In the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, you can snag a phone with a 6.7-inch screen. The iPhone 14 Pro and 13 Pro models have 6.1-inch screens.

Again, there isn’t a huge difference between the iPhone 14 vs 13 Pros, but you get some exciting new features compared to the standard models. The Pro phones have nicer display tech, a powered-up camera system, a stainless steel body and a 1TB storage option.

Design

The Pro models are remarkably similar, with the same flat edges, rounded corners and Ceramic Shield as the standard models. They are a bit heavier, though, and swap an aluminum body for rugged steel. The iPhone 13 Pro models still have a notch that dips into the screen to house the front camera, like the other models, but for the iPhone 14 Pros, Apple replaced the notch with a pill-shaped cutout.

In both the iPhone 14 and 13 Pro, you’ll find:

The three-lens Pro camera system.

Face ID and no physical home button.

IP68 water resistance.

MagSafe compatibility for chargers, cases and more.

Both the iPhone 13 and 14 Pro models weigh about the same. When it comes to colors, you can grab either option in gold or silver. The 13 Pro and Pro Max also come in graphite, a light Sierra Blue and Alpine Green. The 14 Pro and Pro Max offer Space Black and Deep Purple.

Display

The display is where the 14 Pro shines. It adds two standout iPhone 14 features to the device:

The Dynamic Island: This feature is Apple’s unique approach to the pill-shaped cutout on the front screen. It changes shape and size to accommodate whatever you’re doing. If you’re listening to music, it might show the play and pause button. If you’re watching a ball game, it can show you the score.

An Always-On display: The iPhone 14 Pro now stays on in a darkened mode that saves battery but also lets you see what’s going on without tapping or lifting your phone to “wake” it.

The 14 Pro and 13 Pro both benefit from the beloved ProMotion technology. This display tech lets your iPhone change its refresh rate up to 120Hz for a smoother experience. For comparison, standard models only offer a static 60Hz refresh rate.

All of the Pro models share Super Retina XDR and OLED screens. The 13 Pro can get a little brighter than the 13, and the 14 Pro has an especially bright display. It can reach 1,600 nits in HDR and 2,000 nits outdoors. For comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro only hits 1,200 nits in HDR.

Cameras

Photo fanatics will likely want to spring for a Pro. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro models have exceptional camera systems, with beefed-up hardware and the powerful photo processing software that Apple is known for. Depending on your photography needs, the iPhone 13 Pro vs. 14 Pro choice might be tricky.

The 13 Pro gets a 12MP Pro camera system, which includes Main, Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. They have apertures of f/1.5, f/1.8 and f/2.8, respectively.

With the 14 Pro, the Main camera got a bump to 48MP, alongside a smart photo processing solution that groups pixels together when it’s needed, depending on your lighting situation. Oddly enough, the 14 Pro has narrower apertures of f/1.78 for the Main camera and f/2.2 for the Ultra Wide camera. The TrueDepth front camera has a wider f/1.9 aperture, as well as autofocus.

The 14 also gets to take advantage of Action mode, which helps to stabilize bumpy video, and the new Photonic Engine, which helps deliver brighter, more accurate colors and better detail. Cinematic mode now works in 4K, too.

In both the iPhone 14 and 13 Pros, you get:

Sensor-shift optical image stabilization, with second-generation tech in the 14 Pros.

3x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out and up to 15x digital zoom for photos.

3x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out and up to 9x digital zoom for video.

Portrait mode, Night mode, Night mode portraits, Macro photography and Cinematic mode.

Photographic Styles.

Apple ProRAW and ProRes options.

4K, 1080p and HDR recording with framerates from 24-60 frames per second.

Slo-mo, Night mode and Time-lapse recording.

Both Pro models also get light detection and ranging (LiDAR) scanners, which help with various features like focusing in low light and scanning environments for augmented reality applications.

Pricing

Neither Pro model is the most affordable smartphone out there, but being the newest iPhone, the 14 Pro and Pro Max are more expensive. The 13 Pro and Pro Max are no longer sold by Apple but are available used. We offer the iPhone 13 Pro starting at around $700 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max in the mid-$600s.

The 14 Pro isn’t yet on the used market, but its current retail price starts at $999 for the 14 Pro and $1,099 for the 14 Pro Max.

Performance and Features

The iPhone 14 Pro and 13 Pro offer outstanding speed and a slew of industry-leading features.

Looking at the processor of the iPhone 14 vs. 13 Pro, the 13 Pro has the same A15 Bionic chip as the standard 13 but with an extra core in the GPU for a graphics boost. The 14 Pro got an upgrade to the A16 Bionic chip with a five-core GPU as well. Like the standard iPhone 14, the 14 Pro models added Crash Detection and satellite-based Emergency SOS and swapped physical SIM cards for eSIM support.

Outside of those features, the 14 Pro and 13 Pro models are pretty similar to each other and their younger siblings. All of these phones offer:

Apple Pay.

Face ID.

FaceTime video and audio.

5G support.

Siri.

Battery and Storage

If battery life is a priority, a Pro Max is the way to go. They might be heavier and bigger, but that means there’s more room for a hefty battery. The iPhone 14 and 13 Pro models offer the following battery life ratings:

iPhone 13 Pro: Up to 22 hours of video playback

iPhone 13 Pro Max: Up to 28 hours of video playback

iPhone 14 Pro: Up to 23 hours of video playback

iPhone 14 Pro Max: Up to 29 hours of video playback

Charging capabilities are the same across the board. The Pro models get wireless charging and fast charging and use Apple’s Lightning adapter.

Storage options for the Pro models are the same as they are for the standard models, except you also have a 1TB option. With those fancier cameras, 1TB can be a great choice for photographers and videographers filling their camera roll with high-quality shots.

Factors to Consider Before Buying an iPhone 14 or iPhone 13

As you’ve seen, there are many different options and variations to consider when buying an iPhone 13 or 14. Think about what you want to see in the following areas:

What size you prefer: Do you want a small phone that’s easy to hold, or would you rather have a huge screen to watch videos and play games on? If you like a small phone, the iPhone 13 mini is probably the last of its kind. Since Apple removed the mini from the 14 lineup, don’t expect another flagship phone with a small size for a while. The third-generation iPhone SE is a little larger than the 13 mini, but it has a smaller display size due to having a home button. It also lacks some modern features.

What camera features you’d like: Are you a photo fanatic or do you just need to cover the basics? The Pro cameras are a big upgrade from the standard camera systems. A Pro might be worth it if you take a lot of macro or distance photos or often find yourself in low-light situations. The 14 models also have Action mode if you like to take fast-moving video and want to smooth out your footage. For casual users, the standard cameras are still excellent and perform well in most situations.

What safety features you might need: If you want some extra peace of mind or frequently go off-grid on camping or hiking excursions, you might want to grab a 14 due to its next-level safety features. Crash Detection offers extra security for potential car crashes, while Emergency SOS can use a satellite network to call for assistance instead of relying on your cellular network. Both are great features that the 13 models lack.

What kind of display you want: Since the iPhone 14 has some upgraded display tech, think about whether you’re interested in the Always-On display, ProMotion technology or the new Dynamic Island. ProMotion is available in the 13 Pro, but the other two features will call for the iPhone 14 Pro.

How much battery life you need: Generally speaking, the smaller and lighter the phone, the lower the battery life. The range between the iPhone 13’s 19 hours of video playback and the 14 Pro Max’s 29 hours is pretty large. Consider what your phone habits look like and whether you need a massive battery or have time to top up your phone’s charge throughout the day.

How much storage you need: Do you fill up phone storage pretty quickly? Remember to choose an appropriate level of internal storage. Apple devices do not have any expandable storage options, such as microSD cards. You can use cloud storage, like iCloud, but that requires an ongoing subscription and internet service. Consider your storage needs carefully before buying your next phone.

The Apple® iPhone 14 came out in September 2022 with a slew of new features. We got a new 14 Plus model, an always-on display, new safety features and camera upgrades. But how much are these updates going to cost you? Fortunately, Apple has stayed fairly consistent in how it prices its iPhones.

Depending on the model and specs you choose, you can expect to spend anywhere from $799 to $1599 for a new iPhone 14. If that price sounds a little steep, you can save by buying used or even going back to the iPhone 13. Let’s take a closer look at the iPhone 14 prices and what each configuration will get you.

How Much Does the iPhone 14 Cost?

The iPhone 14 starts as low as $799, but there are many models to choose from. There are two standard models, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which are almost identical except for their screen size. The Pro models include the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. These phones get some additional features for a premium price.

Apple technically had a price increase for the iPhone 14 lineup but not for specific phone models. The iPhone 13 family originally started at $699, but it had the iPhone 13 mini, a smaller version of the standard iPhone 13. Apple got rid of the mini in 2022, replacing it with the iPhone 14 Plus. So, while the mini created a lower entry-level price, the price for the standard iPhone model is still the same as it was last year.

For all models, you’ll also get a choice of storage space. If you opt for the highest storage option, you’ll pay several hundred dollars more than you would for a base model with 128GB. Remember that iPhones do not have expandable storage, such as a slot for a microSD card. You can purchase cloud storage, but it generally requires an internet connection and an ongoing subscription.

iPhone 14

The iPhone 14 is the lowest-cost model, starting at $799 for 128GB of storage. It also comes in 256GB and 512GB varieties for $899 and $1099, respectively.

Although previous lineups offered a cheaper and smaller iPhone mini, the iPhone 14 got rid of it in lieu of the iPhone 14 Plus, making the standard model the most budget-friendly version. It still has a pocket-friendly 6.1-inch display size.

iPhone 14 Plus

The iPhone 14 Plus offers a very similar experience to the iPhone 14, just with a larger 6.7-inch screen and longer battery life. It comes in at $899 for the 128GB model. The 256GB model will run you $999, while the 512GB model will cost $1,199.

iPhone 14 Pro

If you head to the Pro models, you’ll be spending at least $999, the base price for the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro. You get an extra 1TB storage option for this model, along with a big camera upgrade and a redesigned, pill-shaped notch for the front camera system.

Other iPhone 14 Pro prices include:

$1,099 for the 256GB model.

$1,299 for the 512GB model.

$1,499 for the 1TB model.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Last but not least, the iPhone 14 Pro max prices start at $1,099 for the base 128GB model. Like the 14 Plus, it has very similar specs to the iPhone 14 Pro, just with a bigger 6.7-inch display.

The Pro Max pricing for larger storage options includes:

$1,199 for the 256GB model.

$1,399 for the 512GB model.

$1,599 for the 1TB model.

Which iPhone 14 Should I Buy?

With so many choices, picking an iPhone can be a tough call. Some things to consider when choosing which iPhone 14 to buy include:

Size: Thankfully, there are only two sizes to pick from with a 6.1-inch or 6.7-inch display. If you have an iPhone from the last few years, it’s probably pretty close in size, and you can use it to gauge the size you’d prefer.

Camera: Either phone will give you exceptional camera quality, but if you’re especially interested in photography, you may want to go for a Pro model. They’re particularly helpful for low-light situations and offer more optical zoom capabilities. Pro phones add Night mode portraits, macro photography and Apple ProRAW and ProRes recording options.

Storage: If you don’t store much data on your phone or you use the cloud, you’ll probably be just fine with a 128GB model. If you have mountains of photos and videos, it could be worth upgrading to get more storage, especially if you’re looking for 1TB, which is only available on the Pro.

Color: The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus come in blue, purple, midnight, starlight and (PRODUCT) RED. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max come in deep purple, gold, silver and space black. Folks who want a certain color might be limited.

Battery life: Generally, the larger the phone, the larger the battery. Apple says that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will offer up to 29 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 14 will offer up to 20 hours of video playback. Other models lie somewhere in between. All models have fast and wireless charging options.

Display: The Pro models have an always-on display that keeps your Lock Screen on without needing to “wake” it. They also have a Dynamic Island feature that adjusts to what you’re doing to offer more information.

Speed: The Pro models use the A16 Bionic chip, a step up from the A15 Bionic in standard models. Both should be plenty fast for most users, but the A16 Bionic has a slight edge.

Price: Of course, your budget will also determine which iPhone is best for you.

Buying a new iPhone 14 isn’t the only option. You can also buy used phones as they become available to save significantly off the regular price.

You should be able to get a used iPhone 14 in a few months, but you can also jump back to the iPhone 13 to get one sooner and cheaper. There isn’t a big difference between the 13 and the 14, so you can go back a model or two without missing out on much. The main feature you wouldn’t get with the 13 is the redesigned display on the Pro models. The 13 still has a similar camera system, size and processor, and you can find them used for under $500.

Another way to save on a new phone is to trade in your old device, even if it’s cracked or in bad condition.

Buying a Used iPhone 14 Device

The iPhone 14 is an excellent device, but it’s also the most expensive iPhone on the market right now. A great way to get the Apple experience or upgrade your phone without the high price tag is to shop used. Since these phones are so new, they aren’t on the used market just yet, but we should see them in a few weeks.

At Gazelle, we take the hassle out of buying used devices online. Say goodbye to contracts, deceptive pricing and dealing with strangers. With guaranteed compatibility and a 30-day return policy, you can rest easy buying a used phone. Many devices even get a 30-point inspection and the Gazelle Certified guarantee.

Today, it seems like a new device or smartphone launches every month. From tablets to cell phones and smartwatches, it’s easy to become influenced by the latest marketing trends and consider buying the newest one on the market. Apple alone has released over 30 iPhones since its original launch, and many users have likely owned several iPhones in their lifetime.

With recent rumors swirling about the release of Apple’s latest smartphone, you may be wondering if you should buy the iPhone 13 now or wait for iPhone 14. In this article, we’ll discuss some pros and cons of buying the newest iPhone and why buying a used phone may benefit your lifestyle and budget.

What to Consider When Choosing Whether or Not to Buy the Newest iPhone

While many consumers will excitedly rush out on the iPhone 14 release day and wait in long lines to get their hands on the newest features, there are some things you should consider before spending hundreds — or possibly thousands — on a brand new device.

Current Phone

The first thing you want to consider is your current phone’s age and condition. If you’ve only had your device for a few months to a year, you probably won’t need to buy a new iPhone. However, if your phone is several years old, there are plenty of reasons you might want to upgrade.

Some smartphones, like Apple’s iPhones, must be updated consistently to prevent any security issues, glitches or hardware bugs. An older phone might have difficulty downloading the latest software and cause your phone to crash often or load very slowly.

After having your phone for so many years, you may constantly run out of storage after accumulating thousands of photos, apps, messages and other elements that take up space. Having an older phone also makes it difficult to get new chargers or accessories, as most tech stores try to keep merchandise for the most recent phones.

If your current phone has external or internal issues, such as a broken camera lens or water damage, it may be more expensive to fix your damaged phone than to buy a new one, depending on its condition.

Time of Year

Newer phones can be more or less expensive, depending on the time of year. For instance, Apple typically announces their new iPhones in September, but prices eventually drop around two to three months later after the initial buzz subsides.

If you’re looking for a new iPhone, it might be cheaper to wait until the market price comes down. If you can’t wait, you might secure a special deal, offer or discount for smartphones during holiday sales, such as Black Friday or Christmas.

Features You Want

Features are probably some of the top things you look for in a phone. For starters, many smartphone users love Apple and Samsung’s consistent camera upgrades that let them take high-definition, crystal-clear photos. Smartphones with a good camera also make it easier to do flash photography in dimly light places or at night, which can be important if you love taking lots of photos for memories.

Other features on newer smartphones that you might enjoy using include:

Wireless charging

Apple Pay

Customizable lock screens

Touch or Face ID

5G connectivity

It all depends on how much you use your phone and what you use it for. For example, if you have 10 to 20 apps on your current phone that you use daily and constantly research the new Apple and Samsung updates to see what features they’re putting out, a brand new phone may be worth it for you. If you only use your phone for text, calls and emails, you might not find newer features useful — or worth the price tag.

Price

The price is probably the first factor you consider when thinking about getting a new phone. If you have a limited budget, it’s important to consider how much you’re willing to spend on a new phone and what you will actually use it for.

While it can be tempting to blow an entire paycheck or two for all the latest gadgets, designs and accessories, the best iPhone is the one that meets your needs. Regardless of your price range, some devices are always going to be better than others based on personal preferences, usage and capabilities.

Storage

If you’re scoping out the next iPhone, storage is another factor to consider. Depending on how much you use your phone, you may need to upgrade to a larger storage capacity or downgrade to less. Everything on your smartphone takes up storage. iPhones even have preinstalled apps and features that account for storage space. You also need to consider:

Apps

Email

Text messages

Photos and videos

Music

Downloaded PDFs and files

Streaming services

Podcasts and movies

Browser history and cache

If you’re the type of person who uses all of these functions, you’ll definitely need to rely on a larger internal memory, such as 128GB or 256GB. However, if you tend to keep your phone clear from heavy apps and overloaded storage, there’s no reason to shell out the extra cash for a bigger memory bank.

Keep in mind that Apple allows users to take advantage of their cloud services. This feature lets you save space on your device by storing photos and other files on a cloud-based system through an internet connection for a small monthly fee if you exceed the phone’s internal storage.

Design and Functionality

When shopping or browsing for a new iPhone, your personal taste and preferences always play a role in your final decision. For example, you may care more about the phone’s outward appearance than its software capabilities. While some people prefer a sleek, simple design, others prefer visible lines and sharp metal edges.

Today, many smartphones on the market strongly influence and resemble each other, so it can be difficult to find one that stands out on its own without accessories.

It’s wise to remember that design is based on functionality. While the newest iPhone has plenty of fun features and a sleek appearance, it also prevents you from using some of the older functions you might be used to, such as a headphone jack and Touch ID. The newest iPhones are only compatible with AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones unless you buy a separate connector for your wired headphones.

Operating System and Software

A phone’s operating system, software and processing power manage its many capabilities and functions. If you currently have an iPhone, you can go into your device’s settings to explore the software and see what hidden features your phone has that you might not know about.

Apple updates and improves the operating system on every iPhone — called iOS — to make functions work faster and easier than before. However, many users may not notice a difference if they aren’t waiting for it.

For example, if you currently own an iPhone 11 and want to upgrade to an iPhone 13, the different software may not be enough to notice. If your current phone is a few years old or you’re thinking about switching to an iPhone for the first time, you may find the operating system quite impressive.

The software on the iPhone also keeps your applications up to date and delivers security updates that notify users when they need to download the new software to improve any bugs.

Ultimately, you may want to look past the phone’s design and investigate the newest iPhone’s overall performance before spending money for extra technical specifications you may not even use.

Size and Display

Size and display are other factors that play a considerable part in your decision. If you’re not a fan of large, bulky devices you can barely hold in one hand, you might want to opt for a smaller iPhone, such as the iPhone 13 Mini, which is only 5.4 inches long diagonally. Though this is not the newest iPhone, it can fit snuggly in your pocket, and it’s easy to carry.

If you enjoy streaming movies and TV shows on your phone or playing games, you may want to upgrade to a device with a larger display screen for an optimized experience.

If you primarily use your smartphones to scroll through social media and message loved ones, a smaller screen would be more than sufficient.

Older iPhones and smartphones may have display screens with low light projection — meaning they’re more difficult to see clearly in the direct sun. A newer iPhone will have improved technology that lets you view high-definition (HD) resolution images and enhance your viewing experience altogether.

Keep in mind that a larger phone can also make it easier to drop out of your hands or difficult to reach across the screen for navigation and typing.

Battery Life

Battery life is one of the most important things you can have on a smartphone because it adds much more convenience if you’re often away from electrical outputs for long periods. For instance, if you travel a lot and rely on portable chargers to keep your device running or use your phone for school or work, long battery life can benefit you.

Most iPhones have battery life cycles that can last between 10 to 17 hours a day, so a serious upgrade is probably unnecessary unless your current phone loses juice fairly quickly. If you work from home or always remember to charge your phone at night, long battery life may not be one of the top priorities on your list.

Reasons Why You Should Buy a Used iPhone Instead

Though there are plenty of reasons you might want to buy the iPhone 14 when it launches, you can still find the features, design, speed and battery life upgrades you want in a used or pre-owned iPhone. Consider some of the benefits of buying a used iPhone — your wallet will thank you.

Lower Cost

A brand new iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at $1,099 and goes up to $1,599, depending on the size of the display screen you choose and how much storage you want. This means you’ll spend over a grand for a new phone — not including any accessories like phone cases or screen protectors. However, you can find a certified pre-owned iPhone 13 Pro Max for as low as $780 in good condition and with plenty of storage.

The overall out-of-pocket cost of a newer phone will be less expensive than the market price when you buy it used, making it easier to get the features or designs you want without paying the maximum price tag. Additionally, a used iPhone 13 Pro Max offers the same exact functions, performance and capabilities as a new one while saving you hundreds of dollars.

Change Brands

Buying a used iPhone makes it easier to switch over to the Apple brand if you currently own another smartphone, such as a Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel. For instance, if you’ve been a fan of your Android phone for years but want to experience what Apple has to offer, buying a pre-owned device allows you to switch over without taking too much risk and paying the full market price.

Get Newer Features and More Storage for Less

If your current phone is in average working order, but you want to upgrade for a new feature or two, consider buying used instead. Because used cell phones are more affordable, you can upgrade to a newer iPhone with an improved operating system, camera and other capabilities without buying the most expensive one that has recently launched.

For example, you might just want to get a newer iPhone to be able to charge your phone wirelessly or use more storage. With a used iPhone, you can upgrade the storage capacity and benefit from many other new features that work just as well as brand new devices.

Benefit the Environment

Every year, users throw away millions of tons of devices and electronic equipment, leading to higher annual carbon emissions. Some iPhone buyers rush to buy the newest iPhone every time Apple announces the next launch, meaning one person could go through dozens of phones in their lifetime. Buying a secondhand phone is a small step toward keeping electronic waste out of landfills and preventing harsh chemicals from seeping into the soil, water and air.

Purchasing a pre-owned smartphone lets you extend the device’s lifecycle and keep the demand for newer products down. Online marketplaces for pre-owned devices, like Gazelle, let customers recycle and trade in their old phones in good condition for money to put toward a newer device. This means you can easily get an upgraded phone and some extra money while doing your part to recycle responsibly.

With less than a month before the eagerly awaited Apple® iPhone 14 rumored release, we think it’s high time to tell you what you can expect. Apple has all but perfected their physical designs, so we should get a similar look, but under the hood, rumors point to a host of interesting features. From a 48MP camera to a no-notch display, the iPhone 14 is shaping up to be an exciting generation. To prepare for the new release, we’ve compiled the top iPhone 14 rumors with some of the potential new features we can start looking forward to.

The Rumored iPhone 14 Lineup

The new iPhones should look similar to the current options we have for the iPhone 13, which has the standard iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The new lineup will have one important exception, as Apple is supposedly swapping the Mini for a new 14 Max. Since the Mini model wasn’t all that popular, the Max option should offer a larger size without asking customers to fork over top-dollar for the Pro Max version.

Other than that, we can probably expect similar offerings — a standard phone with the basics or a Pro model with all the bells and whistles, including better cameras and display tech.

We’ve seen some conflicting rumors about what colors will be available, but potential Apple iPhone 14 colors include blue, black, white, red and purple for the standard models and purple, silver, graphite and possibly gold for the Pro models. We might also see green or even rose gold in the mix.

iPhone 14 Release Date and Price

Apple has a fairly predictable release schedule, so it’s highly likely they’ll announce the iPhone 14 in early September. Predictions point to an event Apple is hosting on Sept. 7, with sales starting shortly after on Sept. 16.

The iPhone 13 starts at $799, and the iPhone 14 prices are expected to start there as well. The iPhone 14 Max should sit in between the standard phone and the Pro at about $899. At first, rumors suggested that the Pro models would cost more than the previous generation’s, putting the Pro and Pro Max at starting prices of $1,099 and $1,199, respectively. However, recent leaks have suggested a possible 15% price hike across the board.

iPhone 14 Features

Although the standard models aren’t getting a huge revamp, the Pro Max should get some impressive new features. Here’s what we know so far.

Design

Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 14 design should look pretty close to the iPhone 13 lineup with a sleek, flat-edged body design. We’ll probably get a thicker phone overall, with a semi-glossy glass back and round volume buttons. A few changes that we might see in the design include:

A larger camera bump: At first, rumors suggested a thinner camera bump, or the height difference between the lenses and the back of the phone. Now, it looks like it will actually be a little thicker, at least on the Pro models, to hold a better lens.

A titanium alloy chassis: iPhones have traditionally used stainless steel or aluminum in the phone bodies, but we might see a stronger, more scratch-resistant option with titanium alloy.

A new cooling system: To keep up with the competition, Apple might be using a new vapor chamber thermal system to keep the phone cooler and offset the effects of upgraded specs. This technology uses a tiny network of chambers filled with liquid that evaporates and condenses to evenly distribute heat throughout the system and pull it away from the heat-producing chipsets. Some phones already use this feature, and some people expect Apple to add it with the newest lineup.

Display

The iPhone 14 display should get some big changes, starting with Apple’s first move away from the notch.

So far, Apple has housed the front camera and Face ID sensors in a small notch that dips down from the top of the screen. Now, we’re looking at a less-obtrusive design that puts these components in a smaller element — most likely, a circle next to a pill-shaped cutout in a similar location. This new design would only be used in the Pro and Pro Max, leaving the typical notch design for the standard models.

Another major development is the potential for an always-on display. This would also be unique to the Pro and Pro Max models, but it would allow certain types of data and widgets, like weather and calendars, to remain on the lock screen without needing to wake up your phone. It uses a low refresh rate to keep battery life long and helps keep pace with some of the top features Android phones already have.

The 14 and 14 Pro screen sizes should be around 6.1 inches on the diagonal, with the Max and Pro Max models coming in at about 6.7 inches. The Pro models will likely receive a 120Hz refresh rate — which affects how smooth the screen movement appears — but there’s no such luck for the standard models, which will likely get 60Hz refresh rates.

There were some talks of an in-screen Touch ID element, which would be hidden underneath the screen and allow you to use your fingerprint to unlock the phone, like some older iPhones and the SE models do. However, it looks more and more like Apple is going all-in on Face ID and will not be including this feature in the iPhone 14.

Camera

Apple usually prefers to focus on image processing power rather than hardware, but this year, we’re expecting the first increase in megapixels that we’ve seen in a long time. If you want this upgrade, you’ll likely have to spring for a Pro or Pro Max. On those models, we should see a 48MP main camera capable of recording 8K video, which is a considerable bump from the 12MP camera on the iPhone 13.

Still, megapixels aren’t everything, and one leaker has suggested that the 14 setup might underperform in low light compared to the iPhone 13 cameras. Still, the software still has plenty of time for development, which is where Apple can implement features like pixel binning. Pixel binning involves grouping pixels together to function as one. It’s a complex process, but it would mean that the camera could use pixel binning to achieve higher-quality photos in low light and switch to regular photos in optimal lighting conditions.

As for the other cameras, we expect Apple to follow the same pattern as it did for the iPhone 13 lineup, giving Pro models a triple-lens system and sticking with dual lenses for the standard models. The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have Telephoto, Wide and Ultra Wide camera systems, and it’s likely we’ll see those on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The standard models nix the Telephoto lens.

Some other features we might see go to the front camera, which hasn’t gotten much of an upgrade since the iPhone 11. These new features could include autofocus, additional elements and a wider f/1.9 aperture. These should be available for both the standard and Pro models.

Specs

The iPhone 14 series could get some kind of chip upgrade. The iPhone 13 lineup has an A15 Bionic chip, so we’re expecting either an A16 or an A15 Bionic to potentially give the 14 series a speed boost. Some rumors initially suggested they would be moving to faster 4nm or even 3nm technology, but it looks like Apple will be sticking to a 5nm chip.

Even if Apple sticks with the A15, some other performance boosts are likely on the docket.

Some of the new specs we could see in the iPhone 14 include:

More RAM: All phones will probably get 6GB of RAM, which helps smartphones handle more demanding applications. This would be an upgrade for the standard phones, but not for the Pro models. Although, they aren’t left out of the equation completely, because they could get an upgrade to more energy-efficient LPDDR5 RAM.

Doubled internal storage: Some leakers in the past have suggested that Pro models will get the option for 2TB of internal storage. Another rumor is that the base models will start off at 256GB of storage, rather than the current 128GB. Since iPhones don’t have an option to add a microSD card, higher internal storage is particularly useful — especially if you’ll be taking advantage of that 8K video recording.

Switch to eSIM: The iPhone 13 models use both physical SIM cards and eSIM cards, which offer more flexibility for switching service plans and providers. For example, if you frequently travel, an eSIM makes it easy to add a local plan or switch to, say, a separate plan for a work phone. Some predictions point to Apple making eSIM-only models, although we might see the company produce models with eSIM-only and dual-SIM capabilities, particularly in areas where eSIMs aren’t as common.

Car crash detection: This handy feature is an expansion of Apple’s existing fall detection tool, available in iPhones and Apple Watches. It would use an accelerometer to detect crashes and alert emergency services and contacts when needed.

A new modem with satellite-based emergency features: Another big safety upgrade is the possible addition of the Snapdragon X65 modem, which helps power the phone’s wireless connection. It offers fast 10GB 5G connectivity and might enable satellite connectivity. These satellite connections could allow for emergency tools that work even when the user doesn’t have a good cellular signal.

Wi-Fi 6E: This new Wi-Fi technology could help increase the reliability and performance of your phone’s Wi-Fi network. It should be especially useful for augmented reality and virtual reality experiences.

While these might be modest updates individually, they could pack a pretty big punch together.

Battery and Power

Last but not least is how Apple will approach the battery life. As usual, we expect most phones to get a slight upgrade in battery capacity, except for the Pro Max, which might have a negligible downgrade.

Here’s what the rumor mill has to tell us:

iPhone 14 Mini/Max: The Mini is likely being replaced with the Max, which has more room for a bigger battery, so it’s not surprising that we’re expecting a bump in battery life. The iPhone 14 Max may have a 4,325mAh battery, while the iPhone 13 mini has just a 2,406mAh battery. This capacity would give the Max the largest battery out of the entire lineup.

iPhone 14: The standard phone could get a slight increase from 3,227mAh in the 13 to 3,279mAh for the 14. For reference, the iPhone 13 offers about 75 hours of audio playback and 19 hours of video playback.

iPhone 14 Pro: The Pro model should have a decent bump from 3,095mAh to 3,200mAh. The 13 Pro currently gets up to 75 hours of audio playback and about 22 hours of video playback.

iPhone 14 Pro Max: Lastly, the Pro Max may get just a small decrease from 4,352mAh to 4,323mAh, perhaps to make room for the beefed-up camera system. The 13 Pro Max offers up to 28 hours of video playback and a whopping 95 hours of audio playback for reference.

These numbers are just looking at capacity, but since software plays a big role in battery life, we’ll have to wait for real-world tests to tell us how long these phones will really last.

Another major change we might see is the potential addition of a 30W charger, a significant increase from the iPhone 13, which can be charged at a maximum speed of 20W. The 30W charger would enable faster charging — an area in which Apple products have traditionally lagged. Considering that competitors have been offering faster charging speeds for years, it’s a good time for an improvement in this area.

Finally, we can’t finish a summary of the iPhone without discussing the charging port. The European Union has officially announced plans to require USB-C ports for phones, tablets and cameras, so many have been wondering if Apple will make the switch this year. Ultimately, there isn’t much evidence pointing in this direction, and we’re still expecting lightning chargers with the iPhone 14. The iPhone 15 will likely get USB-C, but we’ve got some time before then.

If you’re like most smartphone users, screenshots are a part of your daily phone use, whether you’re capturing a funny meme, sharing part of an interesting article, or saving a conversation for later. Screenshots are a fast, convenient way to save and share information. But it’s not always obvious how to take them on a new device. Apple’s screenshot methods have evolved over the years, most especially with the introduction of Face ID and the phasing out of the physical Home button starting with the iPhone X in 2017.

How to Take a Screenshot on an iPhone With Face ID

With the release of the iPhone X in 2017, Apple did away with the traditional physical home button at the bottom of the device. The change puts more on the side button, with the former “home” action now swiping up on your screen. Apple’s Face ID models – which now span from the iPhone X through the latest releases – need a different button combination to take a screenshot than older Home button models.

Let’s talk about how it works:

Press and release the side button and the volume up button at the same time.

A small window of the image will appear in the lower-left corner of your screen – tap it if you want to proceed with the screenshot or swipe the image away to dismiss it.

Select “Done” when you’re finished editing, or exit to go back to what you were doing.

Save the screenshot to your destination of choice, like a specific photo album or file folder.

You can access your screenshot by opening the file or album you saved it to, and it will also appear in All Photos in your Photos app. If you find your storage filling up, learn how to delete photos on your iPhone to free up space.

If you’d like a hands-free alternative, the Back Tap feature lets you take a screenshot by tapping the back of your iPhone two or three times. You can enable this under Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.

How to Take a Screenshot on iPhones With a Home Button

If you own an iPhone with a Home button – like the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, or iPhone SE (2020) – capturing a screenshot is easy. Apple phased out the Home button starting with the iPhone X in 2017. But these models remain in use. Let’s look at how to take a screenshot:

Press and release the Home button and the Side button simultaneously. Note that on older models such as the iPhone 5s, you’ll press the Home button and the Top button instead.

Wait for a small thumbnail of the screenshot to appear in the lower left corner of your screen, then tap it to open and edit it. You can also swipe it away to dismiss it if you don’t need to make any changes.

Your screenshot will automatically save to your Photos app, where you can access, edit, or share it at any time.

How to Take a Full Page Screenshot

If you’ve ever tried saving a screenshot of a recipe, conversation, to-do list or web post, you’re likely familiar with the challenge of taking a few screenshots, hoping they line up correctly and then trying to find the correct order later on. Fortunately, Apple makes it easier than ever to capture the entire page without the issue.

You have two options for full page screenshots – saving it as a PDF or a stitching app.

1. Save the Page as a PDF

Instead of saving screenshots as separate images, you can save the entire page as a PDF, or Portable Document Format. The PDF will exist as a single file, which makes it easier to send, edit, organize and review.

Let’s talk about how you do it:

Open the page in Safari.

Take a screenshot using your button combination – Side button and Volume Up simultaneously on Face ID models, or Side button and Home button on models with a Home button.

Tap the screenshot preview that appears in the corner of your screen.

Select the “Full Page” tab at the top of the editor.

Tap “Done” and choose to save the screenshot as a PDF to your Files app.

You can also share the PDF directly through Messages or as an email attachment instead of saving it locally.

2. Use a Third-Party Stitching App

If you’d rather save a full page as a long image instead of a PDF, a stitching app is a great alternative. Stitching apps let you take multiple separate screenshots and combine them into a single long image that you can send as one file. Many apps include features like automatically removing navigation bars and seamlessly blending overlapping areas between screenshots.

Tailor, Long Screenshot and Picsew are three popular third-party stitching apps for iOS – find them in the App Store.

Tips for Better iPhone Screenshots

A polished screenshot with helpful text and arrows can be a helpful communication tool. Make your screenshots count with these helpful tips:

Crop the image: Crop a screenshot before sending it or saving it to remove any sensitive information or distracting elements, like the notification bar. You can also use the crop feature to help your screenshot fit specific dimensions or file sizes.

Close ads and pop-ups: Chat bubbles, web ads and pop-up email subscription boxes can take away from your screenshot’s focal point. Close all of these before capturing your image and crop out any sidebar advertisements that you can’t dismiss.

Use the Magnifier: Apple has a built-in magnifying feature that lets you zoom in to the page or conversation and select precisely what you’d like to capture – just tap the “plus” (+) button and zoom in or out until your image is in frame.

Try Back Tap: If you prefer a hands-free alternative to pressing buttons, use Apple’s Back Tap feature to take a screenshot by simply tapping the back of your iPhone two or three times. You can enable this under Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.

Mark the image: Customize your screenshot by adding highlights, arrows or text, which is perfect when using the image for a presentation, project or post online. You can also download an annotation app from the App Store to get even more advanced features, like text redaction and easier highlighting.

Organize your albums: Instead of keeping all of your screenshots in the same screenshot album, consider making multiple screenshot albums to help you stay more organized. Label them based on the content you typically capture, like “jokes,” “recent articles” or “recipes to try.”

Delete when finished: Delete screenshots after you’re done with them to save space on your device. You can also transfer the file to cloud storage to free up space on your phone without permanently deleting the image.
