The beach, the river, the pool, even the menacing glass of water on the table that’s in the flight path of a rogue elbow. Water is all around us, especially during the hot months of summer. Luckily, we live in an age where most phones have some sort of waterproof rating, but what does it mean? Which rating is best suited for your lifestyle?

In this article, we’re diving in – pun intended – to what that water resistance really means for a smartphone and which of the best waterproof phones would be your best bet.

Key Takeaways

IP ratings measure dust and water resistance; the first number covers dust, the second covers water protection levels.

Not all IP68 ratings are equal; two phones with identical ratings can still have different real-world water resistance performance.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the top overall pick, withstanding submersion up to 6 meters for 30 minutes.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the best Android option, surviving submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Waterproof pouches and cases offer additional protection for water activities beyond a phone’s built-in resistance rating.

Understanding Waterproof Phones

First, let’s talk about IP ratings and water resistance in smartphones. While a rating may seem the same across all major smartphones, the phones may still have varying water resistance. It’s better to know now than to find out the hard way with an accidental plunge.

What is IP Rating?

IP rating is a measurement of a phone’s resistance to solid particles, or dust, and water. The first number in an IP rating relates to dust protection, while the second pertains to water. Let’s look at the standard IP68 rating that most smartphones on the market have currently:

IP: IP stands for ingress protection.

Solids Rating: The solids rating reflects the dust resistance of the phone. The current top rating, 6, implies that the device is dust tight and there should be no ingress of dust for 2-8 hours.

Water Rating: The liquid rating refers to water resistance. 8 is the current highest rating, marking that the device is resistant to water damage when submerged in certain water depths for prolonged periods of time.

It’s worth noting that not all IP68 ratings are equal. For example, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max all carry an IP68 rating and can withstand submersion in up to 6 meters (20 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes. On the other hand, the iPhone SE (3rd generation), released in 2022, carries an IP67 rating, meaning it offers a lower level of water resistance by comparison. Always check the specific depth and duration specs for your device — two phones with the same IP rating can still perform differently in real-world conditions.

Top Waterproof Phone Options

We’ll go over the best options for a waterproof phone and accessories depending on your life’s adventures! Whether it’s the best overall, most affordable or specific to a brand, we’ve got you covered with certified refurbished waterproof phones.

Some of the top waterproof phones also offer excellent battery life and fast charging as key features.

Best Overall Waterproof Phone: iPhone 16 Pro Max

If you’re a heavily water-based adventurer, or just pretty clumsy, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is our top pick for best overall waterproof phone. This phone holds an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, making it one of the most reliable options for keeping your phone protected from the elements.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max can withstand immersion in up to 6 meters (about 20 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes – giving you a solid window of time to retrieve your device if it takes an unexpected plunge.

While the latest model does come with a premium price tag, you can find significant savings on recent iPhone models, including the iPhone 15 Pro Max, through Gazelle’s inventory of certified refurbished phones. With different carriers, colors, and conditions available, you can save up to hundreds off retail pricing.

Best Waterproof Android Phone: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

If you’re a tried and true Android fan, this model is the best Android phone selection in terms of water resistance. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra carries an IP68 water resistance rating, capable of surviving submersion up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) of water for 30 minutes.

While it’s never recommended to take your smartphone for a swim, this Android phone is one of the safest options if you happen to be handling it with wet hands and drop it in a shallow body of water. As one of the top Android phones on the market, it does come with a higher price tag – but Gazelle carries certified refurbished Samsung Galaxy phones for a fraction of the retail price.

Best Affordable Waterproof Phone: iPhone SE

This model has an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, which can be paired with a waterproof case or other accessories to add even more protection in wet conditions.

The iPhone SE 3rd generation is a great all-around affordable option beyond just water resistance – offering reliable battery life, solid camera performance, and smooth functionality.

While console and PC purists might not like to admit it, the mobile games space continues to expand and innovate. Though staples like Candy Crush and Wordscapes still exist, players can now use their phones to tap into Xbox and PlayStation remote-play features, bringing a AAA gaming experience to a smartphone.

In particular, iPhones are solid gaming devices, though the best iPhone for gaming may vary depending on your budget and needs. Devices like the 14 Pro Max are well-equipped to handle even more graphically demanding titles but come with a price point that not everyone will enjoy. On the other hand, a lightly used older model may be cheaper, but how long will Apple support it with updates?

We’ll compare a few standard iPhone features, from screen sizes and resolutions to processing speeds and refresh rates. You can also look at battery life, connectivity, online performance, and game catalogs, including Apple Arcade exclusives that console and PC players can’t get. This way, you can choose the best gaming iPhone for your lifestyle.

What’s your preferred playstyle?

Are you a more casual gamer who’s at home with Match-3 and puzzle games, or do you like an intense, online battle royale challenge where you can become the ultimate victor? Depending on your answer, it could influence which iPhone is the best phone for mobile gaming. A more hardcore gamer will want a newer model with the most responsive screen possible and the snappiest feedback for multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games, frenzied shooters, and other advanced titles.

On the other hand, you can save some money if you want a gaming iPhone that can still handle a few games like PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS but is more suited to a laugh-out-loud match of Among Us or a similarly simple title. Whatever your answer, you can still find a device with the iPhone gaming performance you need.

Now, let’s dig a bit into device specifics and see whether or not a phone like the iPhone XR is good for gaming or if you should splurge a bit for something in the iPhone 13 or 14 family.

Different screens yield different rewards.

With each new device iteration, smartphone screens get better and better. Not only do they get more durable and scratch resistant, but they also get faster and snappier with new technology and updates. To ensure every tap or button press counts, you will want the best, most responsive screen out there.

Luckily, the iPhone brand invests a lot into its screens, meaning that you’re hard-pressed to find a truly bad one in the lot. Of course, models like the 14 Pro Max and the 13 Pro are bound to have higher-quality screens than their older counterparts. There are a few key differences, particularly in terms of screen brightness, resolution, and Always-On options. Still, all the newer models offer snappy haptic touch and True Tone technology to ensure colors come through.

For starters, we’ll look at the iPhone 14 Pro Max. If you’re looking for one of the top phones for gaming, this one makes a strong case for itself. It has a 6.7-inch OLED screen with maximum viewing space, bold colors, and deep contrasts that make graphics pop off the screen. This phone also offers ProMotion, unlocking up to 120hz for buttery smooth scrolling and quick gameplay. When you want your games to look and perform their absolute best, the 14 Pro Max presents a compelling option.

For those who get a bit of sticker shock from the 14 Pro Max’s higher price point, the Plus line sacrifices a bit of processing power but maintains that 6.7-inch screen. It’s an excellent compromise for those who want a quality gaming phone without paying the highest prices. However, another tradeoff is that the 14 Plus misses out on the ProMotion feature and 120hz gameplay. While 120hz isn’t necessary, it’s still a big win for competitive online gaming.

Finally, the standard iPhone 13 is still a solid gaming phone, but its screen is outdated compared to its newer counterparts. The 13 has a 6.1-inch OLED display and HDR but no ProMotion, which the 13 Pro models do have. However, this could be a good money-saving option if you don’t mind the smaller screen and lack of 120hz.

Battery life is an essential factor for serious gamers.

While it’s easy to assume that the newest model will have the best battery life, it isn’t always true. From the standard iPhone 13 to the iPhone 14, there’s only a jump of one hour’s worth of video playback. If you’re budgeting for a base model, this may not be enough of a difference to splurge for the 14.

In contrast, when you start to look at Pro, Plus, and Pro Max models, there’s a much more noticeable difference. Compared to the base 14, the 14 Pro Max gets an estimated nine more hours of video playback time. That extended battery life could mean the difference between a few more matches or not, especially when you’re traveling or commuting. This is all moot if you regularly play near a charging port or have a battery pack handy when gaming.

More storage means more room for your favorite games.

This may be a minor consideration since most phones follow standard size increments. However, compared to the iPhone 14 series, which goes up to 1TB of storage, the base iPhone 13 has a cap of 512GB. If you want to install a few graphically intense games or you don’t want to swap content in and out of your library constantly, the best iPhone for gaming will likely be a 14 model at 1TB.

Mobile games tend to be much smaller than console and PC games, but the more graphically intense ones can eat up a lot of storage space, especially if you have a smaller capacity iPhone like a 128 or 256GB model. For the serious gamer, opting for the most storage space you can afford is always a good idea. That way, your device has plenty of room for updates, new games, and old favorites.

Connectivity impacts download speeds and online game connections.

If you’re playing on WiFi most of the time, you may not need to worry about your iPhone’s connectivity as your speeds will be more closely tied to your ISP plan. However, if you like to game on the go, enjoy online titles like COD Mobile, or don’t have a robust WiFi plan, you can rest easy knowing that newer iPhone models come with high-speed 5G connections. With a solid cellular connection, you can access your favorite online games, dive into a Brawlhalla or Clash Royale match, and multitask between several games and apps.

Processing power will impact your games.

There are significant leaps in overall processing power between the 13, 14, and 14 Pro Max. For instance, the 13 starts with the A15 Bionic chip, while the 14 Pro and Pro Max have the A16 Bionic. The 13 offers a 6-core CPU and 4-core GPU against the Pro Max’s 6-core GPU and 5-core CPU. Each of these models comes with a 16-core Neural Engine. While a more casual gamer may not notice the performance difference all the time, enthusiasts and hardcore players certainly will.

Again, this is a smaller consideration for many, so don’t be too concerned about getting a 4-core CPU over the 5-core model or opting for a more affordable device with the A15 chip instead of the spendier A16 variant. For the most part, you’ll get solid, consistent performance from any iPhone, especially on less graphically demanding titles or simpler games.

Do you need peripherals or extra controllers?

Since most iPhone models work well with third-party controllers and Bluetooth devices, many gamers play on their favorite controller instead of relying solely on the touchscreen. While controller clips and other peripherals aren’t necessary for many mobile games, FPS games and some adventure games may benefit from having a complete controller instead of trying to navigate cramped touchscreen controls.

This is especially true for the iPhone 13 and its 6.1-inch screen. With less screen real estate, it’s easier to press the wrong input, which can cost you in fast-paced online games. If you’re looking for the best gaming phone on a budget, you may want to pad in some extra money for a suitable controller or attachment to get the most from your gaming time on a smaller screen.

Are you tired of paying for subscriptions on your iPhone that you no longer use or need? With the average American now spending over $300 per month on online subscriptions, it’s more important than ever to keep tabs on what you’re paying for. The good news is that cancelling unwanted subscriptions on your iPhone is pretty easy. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through instructions on how to cancel subscriptions on your iPhone, whether they were purchased through the App Store or directly through a third-party service. We’ll also share some helpful tips for taking care of your subscriptions going forward so you can stay away from any unwanted charges. Let’s get started!

Why Cancel iPhone Subscriptions?

If you’re no longer using an app or service that you’ve subscribed to on your iPhone, it’s a good idea to cancel the subscription. Why pay for something you’re not even using? Subscription creep is a problem – with so many apps offering recurring billing through the App Store, it’s easy to accumulate charges you’ve forgotten about. Apple even includes a built-in subscription summary in your iPhone settings that shows how much you’re spending each month, which makes it easier than ever to find subscriptions worth cutting. Additionally, if a subscription fee has increased – many popular apps have raised their prices – and it no longer fits within your budget, cancelling can help save money over time. Finally, if you’ve found a better alternative that has more features or a lower price, there’s little reason to keep paying for something that no longer meets your needs. In any of these cases, cancelling your iPhone subscriptions and reassessing your options is a smart financial move. If you’re also thinking about upgrading your device, check out our guide on how much an iPhone costs to help plan your budget.

How to Cancel Subscriptions on iPhone

To cancel active subscriptions on your iPhone, go to Settings and tap on your name at the top of the screen. From there, choose Subscriptions, choose the subscription you want to cancel, and tap Cancel Subscription to confirm.

If you subscribed through the App Store with your Apple ID, following these steps guarantees that any recurring payments are cancelled — the most reliable way to avoid unwanted charges and keep your costs under control.

Step 1: Open Settings

Unlock your iPhone and find the Settings app on your home screen – it’s the gray icon with gears. Tap it to open your device settings.

At the top of the Settings menu, you should see your name and Apple ID. Tap on your name to access your Apple account options; you’ll be able to find your active subscriptions.

If your name doesn’t appear at the top, you might not be signed in. Tap “Sign in to your iPhone” and enter your Apple ID credentials to proceed. Being signed in is required to view and manage any subscriptions with your account.

Step 2: Tap Your Name

Tap your name at the top of the Settings menu to open your Apple ID account page – this section gives you access to account details, iCloud settings, and subscriptions in one area.

If prompted, enter your Apple ID password or use Face ID or Touch ID to authenticate. Once inside your account page, you’ll see a list of options like iCloud, Media & Purchases, and Subscriptions.

Step 3: Tap Subscriptions

On your Apple ID account page, tap Subscriptions to see a full list of your active and expired subscriptions – this option is available on iOS 15 and later directly within your Apple ID settings, which makes it easier than ever to manage everything in one location.

If you manage subscriptions across multiple Apple IDs, make sure that you’re signed in to the correct account before viewing this list, as each Apple ID has its own separate set of subscriptions.

Step 4: Select the Subscription You Want to Cancel

Browse your list of active subscriptions and tap the one you want to cancel – this will open the subscription details page, where you can see the renewal date, pricing, and plan options.

Before cancelling, take note of when the subscription renews. Apple does not issue refunds for unused time remaining in a billing period, so timing your cancellation helps you get the most value before it ends. Once you’re ready, proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Tap Cancel Subscription

On the subscription details page, scroll down and tap Cancel Subscription. You’ll be asked to confirm the cancellation – tap Confirm to finalize it. You’ll continue to have access to the subscription until the end of the current billing period, after which it will not renew.

If the Cancel Subscription button is not visible, the subscription may have already been cancelled or may have expired. In some cases, subscriptions purchased directly through a third-party app or website have to be cancelled through that provider instead of through Apple. Make sure that you check directly with the service if you can’t cancel through your iPhone settings.

What Happens After You Cancel a Subscription on iPhone?

Access to the app or service will be removed at the end of your billing cycle – it means you can still use the app or service until your latest subscription period ends. But after that, you won’t have access anymore. Your payment method won’t be charged again once you cancel your subscription on iPhone. Since subscriptions are billed in advance, if you cancel in the middle of a subscription period, you’ve already paid for that time and Apple usually will not issue a refund – though you can submit a refund request through Apple’s Report a Problem page if you feel the charge was made in error.

It’s also worth mentioning that canceling a subscription does not automatically delete the app from your iPhone. You’ll need to remove it manually if you no longer want it taking up storage space.

As for downloaded content, what happens after cancellation can depend on the service. With Spotify, just to give you an example, any songs you downloaded for offline listening will become unplayable once your Premium subscription ends, as offline downloads are a Premium-only feature. Apple Music works in the same way – downloaded tracks are tied to an active subscription and will no longer be accessible if you cancel. Always check the service’s terms to know how downloaded content is handled after cancellation.

Tips for Managing Subscriptions on iPhone

Managing subscriptions on your iPhone can be a bit stressful, but with these tips you’ll stay in control. First, always keep track of your subscriptions by checking the Settings app – it’s the most direct way to see everything connected with your Apple ID. It’s easy to miss the free trials that turn into paid subscriptions if left unchecked.

Second, consider subscription management apps like Rocket Money (formerly Truebill) or Bobby, which help you monitor your upcoming payments and find unwanted services at a glance. Set reminders to review your subscriptions monthly so you don’t get caught off guard by unexpected charges. By following these steps, taking care of iPhone subscriptions will become an easy process for anyone looking to take control of their finances.

Keep Track of Your Subscriptions

Check your email for subscription receipts, review your subscriptions directly in Settings, and turn on automatic renewal reminders to keep track of your subscriptions. Managing subscriptions can be a bit stressful, but keeping a close eye on them is what it takes to stay away from unnecessary charges and costs. Here are some tips so you can stay on top of your recurring payments:

Check Your Email for Subscription Receipts: Many subscription services send a receipt after each payment or renewal. Make sure to check these emails regularly so that you know when your next payment will occur.

Review Your Subscriptions in Settings: The easiest way to see all your active and expired subscriptions is to go to Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. This shows everything associated with your Apple ID in one place. Take some time to go through this list periodically and cancel any subscriptions that you no longer need.

Turn On Automatic Renewal Reminders: Apple sends renewal reminder notifications before subscriptions renew, giving you enough time to decide whether or not you want to continue with the service. Make sure notifications are enabled for the App Store in your Settings to receive these alerts.

By following these easy steps, taking care of iPhone subscriptions is much easier!

Consider Subscription Management Apps

Consider popular subscription management apps like Rocket Money (formerly Truebill) or Bobby. These apps help you keep track of your subscriptions and find unwanted charges at a glance. Download and set up a preferred app that works best for you, then link your payment accounts to the app for easy access.

Using subscription management apps has its benefits, like keeping track of all payments made in different places in one location. Here are some benefits:

Automatic tracking: Subscription managers will automatically detect any recurring deductions from linked bank accounts and cards.

Spending visibility: You can see all of your subscriptions consolidated in one dashboard, making it easy to spot services you’ve forgotten about.

Budget planning: With these tools, you can monitor how much money leaves your account every month due to subscriptions and make more informed spending decisions.

By using a subscription manager app alongside your iPhone’s built-in tools, you’ll be able to manage your subscriptions effortlessly while saving time and money each month.

Set Reminders to Review Your Subscriptions

Use calendar apps like Google Calendar or the built-in Apple Calendar to remind you when it’s time to review subscriptions. Recurring reminders every few months help you stay on top of your subscription costs and stay away from unnecessary charges. Make notes about which subscriptions are necessary and which ones can be cancelled during the review.

Keeping track of your subscriptions is important if you want to stay away from overspending or being charged for services that aren’t helpful anymore. By creating reminders, you can make sure that this job doesn’t slip through the cracks, and it can become a standard part of your schedule. Here are some tips:

Use Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or any other calendar app that allows recurring events

Set reminders every three months or so

Create a separate list of all your current subscriptions

Mark those which are necessary

Consider cancelling those which don’t serve any purpose

By following these easy steps, you’ll save money by cutting down on unnecessary costs and make sure that every penny spent on subscriptions counts towards something helpful.

Many moms look for phones that can help them keep up with their kids’ busy schedules or durable devices with a long-lasting battery that can withstand heavy use at work. Perhaps your mom prefers an easy-to-use device without all the bells and whistles. Whatever the case, finding the best smartphone for mom can help her enjoy her time with technology while improving her daily tasks and living style.

Whatever your mom’s priorities, this guide can help you find the perfect phone for her.

What to Consider When Buying a Phone for Your Mom

There are a number of different factors to consider when buying a phone for your mom. For example, if she takes a lot of notes with pen and paper, a phone with a larger screen and stylus may be a good option. Moms that enjoy hobbies like photography or snapping family photos might prefer a device with a quality camera and reliable video space.

Whatever your mom is searching for, think about what phone would best suit her specific needs. Here are a few more factors to consider when buying your mom a new smartphone:

Hearing and vision: For busy moms that work from home, take care of little children or like to multitask, a phone with voice-to-text, HD voice features and a large screen can help her send messages when she’s got her hands full or let her view larger displays from across the room.

Technical abilities: For the mom who is not quite as tech-savvy, find a phone with easier features like increased text size, high-quality audio and speakers or voice-to-text additions. Moms who love the latest tech features might like more premium devices with advanced customization options.

Phone usage: If your mom will use her phone for multiple tasks throughout the day, consider a durable model with a long-lasting battery. For moms who won’t use the phone very much, consider buying a budget phone for emergencies, like a pay-as-you-go phone.

Safety and security: Your mom may appreciate a device with an SOS or 5Star service in case a child or a family member experiences a medical emergency. Many of these phones come with a clearly marked emergency button to send important medical information to those alerted. Other security features to note include operating systems with anti-virus protection, phones with water and dust resistance and biometric login.

Pictures: If your mom enjoys taking photos, consider investing in a phone with a high-quality camera and lots of storage space for all her videos and photos of family and friends.

Budget: For moms on a budget, there are many affordable phones that still include unlimited talk and text data packages and have similar features to premium models.

14 Best Phones For Moms

Whether your mom enjoys taking photos or wants a new phone with updated technology, there are a variety of different makes and models that may fit her needs. After deciding what features she may enjoy, take a look at the various Apple, Android and other smartphones to decide which phone she might like. Here are 14 of the best phones for moms.

1. iPhone X

The iPhone X is an excellent phone for the mom looking for newer updates with recent iPhone models. This phone has wireless charging, Face ID capabilities and is slimmer than its previous counterparts, like the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. One of the best things users appreciate about the iPhone X is its durability and long-lasting battery life. The phone is built to run for several years, making it a significant investment.

The iPhone X also offers exciting camera and lighting modes for the mom who wants to snap some crisp pictures of her day-to-day adventures or outings with her family. Images will look highly detailed and polished. The smartphone also offers a portrait mode that blurs the background behind people and objects, creating a professional-looking shot.

2. Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphones offer various unique features and reliable processing power. The Galaxy S9 Plus has a smaller battery than the S9, less storage space and lacks an S Pen. However, it still comes with a fast processor and dual cameras that allow for excellent low-light photography and an aperture lens that adjusts to the lighting. This means taking photos in the dark is no problem at all. If storage space is a concern, your mom can opt for a microSD card for that extra space she needs.

Moms looking for a Galaxy smartphone with updated features and a reasonable price range would do well with the Galaxy S9 Plus. The dual-aperture camera and processing capabilities make it a reliable piece of technology and an excellent choice for anyone who appreciates modern features.

3. Samsung Galaxy S9

The Galaxy S9 is the more affordable and smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. With a smooth screen and curved glass, this phone fits well in smaller hands if your mom likes to let her children use her devices. It offers quality camera capabilities along with the dual-aperture lens found in the S9 Plus and the Galaxy Note.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is a great option for moms who appreciate a high-quality Android with reliable technology.

4. Galaxy Note 9

For moms who want to stay within the Android space and enjoy jotting down notes or love drawing and writing with pen and paper, the Galaxy Note 9 is a great option. The built-in stylus lets the user quickly draw and take notes with precision, making it a powerhouse for career-focused moms who need organization and efficiency.

The phone is also water resistant and comes with a dual camera that takes crisp portrait shots whenever she wants, perfect for on-the-go use.

With wireless charging options and an expansive 6.4-inch screen, the device will also inspire artsy moms to draw, write, take screenshots, snap selfies and annotate photos, all with one pocket-sized device.

5. Google Pixel 2

One great feature of the Google Pixel 2 is its ability to integrate with other Google services. This device also offers a clean layout on the home screen and beyond, along with a promising camera lens and a fast processor. Some moms may also benefit from the helpful assistant features that walk them through the process of using the phone or help them with daily tasks.

The Google Pixel 2 is also water and dust resistant with accurate autofocus and fast subject tracking, making scanning and taking pictures easier. The detail and thought put into the Pixel 2 are well worth considering for the mom who wants a more modern cell phone with easy functions, especially if they have other Google devices they can integrate.

6. iPhone 8

The iPhone 8 is one of the best smartphones for moms that offers more functions and speed with some traditional elements of the Apple iPhone 7 or 6S, such as the home button and the touch ID fingerprint sensor. While just as powerful compared to the iPhone X, it comes at a lower price and a slightly smaller frame for easy handling.

Moms that like the traditional functions of the older iPhone models will appreciate that the iPhone 8 still comes with the same features as the iPhone 6 or 7, but they’ll also love its exciting upgraded functions, such as wireless charging and a faster processor.

7. iPhone SE

The iPhone SE is a great option if your mom is looking for a more straightforward iPhone that is both comfortable to use with one hand and small enough to fit in her pocket. It is one of the most affordable new models out there, with speedy processing and performance and longer battery life. The iPhone SE can also support 5G from Verizon or T-Mobile if she lives in an area that supports it.

Though the iPhone SE doesn’t have the optical camera lens or OLED display that the iPhone 13 line introduced, don’t let that stop you from considering this device. The SE is speedy and smooth with an easy touch screen for moms who want a reliable phone to play games, launch apps or complete daily tasks.

8. iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a great camera, a long-lasting battery and a smooth 6.7-inch touch screen. For those who want or need a larger screen with clear images to view web pages, stream videos or edit pictures, the 12 Pro Max is a perfect choice.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max may be a bit older than the iPhone 13 and 14 lineups, but it still offers excellent battery life and reliable and durable construction. If your mom wants a newer iPhone model for a lower price, the 12 Pro Max offers many unique features that could be the perfect fit.

9. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with three specific functions that make it a great fit for moms who want a modern phone with sleek functions and a smooth design — the S pen, improved photography and longer-lasting battery life.

The S22 Ultra’s S Pen makes writing and drawing easy and fast, perfect for taking notes at work, tracking appointments or writing grocery lists for easy access. For those who prioritize photography, this device also has a bigger sensor and great low-light capabilities for brighter pictures in the dark. Other key features include a bright screen, fast charging and a clear lens.

10. Motorola Moto G6

For moms who want a phone on a budget and aren’t set on a Samsung or Apple device may like the Motorola Moto G6. This phone is a budget favorite and comes with a dual camera and a slim design. It’s great for those looking for a recent Android model at a lower price.

The durable design and simpler features include a clear screen and bright display, making it easy to take pictures and play games without any added distractions.

11. iPhone XR

Apple released the iPhone XR in 2018, but its colorful display and all-screen design make it one of the best options for moms that love the iPhone interface but don’t need all the latest upgrades. It’s a fairly affordable option compared to other iPhones, and you can find it in red, coral, blue, black, white or yellow. Paired with Apple’s latest iOS update, the XR is more than enough to withstand your mom’s busy life.

The XR is fast, with backlighting, Face ID and a camera lens on the back and front. Enhanced portrait and auto-focus features will help her snap the perfect pictures of friends and family.

12. One Plus 3T

Looking for a reliable smartphone that is affordable and easy to hold and handle? Consider the OnePlus 3T smartphone. With over 120GB of storage, the OnePlus 3T has a large battery, a fast processor, and a better camera than its predecessor. It’s not as known as its Apple and Samsung counterparts, which means it’s often available for a lower price.

The 5.5-inch screen offers a streamlined viewing experience, with narrow bezels and an easy-to-handle curved frame, while the Dash Charge system lets your mom fully charge her phone in half an hour.

13. iPhone 14

If your mom wants all the latest and greatest Apple has to offer, the newly released iPhone 14 checks all the boxes. Apple’s newest flagship has more screen real estate and revamped low-light photography settings to get better pictures in all settings. Fans of the iPhone 13 Pro will recognize the familiar ultra-fast processing power and love the bigger, better battery for more time between charges. Wireless charging is also available for more flexibility.

The phone has a slightly frosted backing and is available in blue, red, purple, midnight and starlight, so you’re sure to find the perfect match for your mom’s wants and style.

14. Google Pixel 6a

Google’s Pixel 6a was released as an affordable smartphone for those who value security, durability and performance without the steep price tag. Your mom will love the adaptive battery that lets her stay connected all day long, while Night Sight photography means she can capture all of her favorite memories, no matter what time it is.

The safety-conscious mom will appreciate the phone’s fingerprint unlock system, improved water resistance and Google’s top-rated security features.

If you’re in the market for a new smartphone, the options can seem overwhelming. You’ve got to consider whether to buy the newest iPhone or Android device, how much storage you need and what other features you prioritize most. Plus, getting a new device can mean your wallet takes a serious hit.

Luckily, plenty of good smartphone options are available within a smaller budget. Those looking for top-quality tech who don’t want to fork over a ton of money can find all the options they need in this list of phones for under $1,000. We’ve done the research and compiled our top list, comparing specs, cool features and price so you can make the best decision. Discover the best cheap phones under $1,000 in this article and choose which smartphone fits your budget and lifestyle.

15 Best Phones Under $1,000

The newest smartphones can be pricey. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra starts at nearly $1,200. Fortunately, you can get a high-quality smartphone with the latest features for less money, as long as you know where to look. Check out the best phones under $1,000 listed below for inspiration!

1. iPhone 13 Pro Max

The recent release of the iPhone 14 means the iPhone 13 options, including the iPhone 13 Pro Max, have recently been edged out as the latest and greatest Apple iPhone devices. However, the iPhone 13 series offers a ton of new and high-tech features for a lower price. When it comes to Apple’s iPhone lineup, the iPhone 13 Pro Max might be the best phone under $1,000 on the market. You can find this impressive phone for as low as $750, depending on which retailer you consider.

This device is incredibly powerful, with Apple’s fastest processor yet, the A15 Bionic chip. The gaming and streaming experience is enhanced by the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s 6.7-inch display. This iPhone also has four great cameras with 12-megapixel (MP) resolution, enabling professional-looking photos through enhanced Night Mode and 3x optical zoom. Other features include the phone’s two-day battery life, 5G connectivity and availability of storage options between 128 gigabytes (GB) and 1 terabyte (TB).

2. iPhone 13 Pro

The iPhone 13 Pro is similar to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, with the main differences being in battery and display size. The iPhone 13 Pro has a slightly smaller battery, though it’s still high-performing and should last you over a day of moderate use. This device also has a smaller 6.1-inch display with a lower resolution.

Besides these features, the iPhone 13 Pro is otherwise a similar device. Its four-camera setup has a 12MP resolution for each camera without the 3x optical zoom. The iPhone 13 Pro uses the same processor and is 5G enabled like the iPhone 13 Pro Max. You can also get this device with internal storage between 128GB and 1 TB. The iPhone 13 Pro is available for less than the 13 Pro Max at most retailers, though you may be able to find it for the same price.

3. iPhone 13 Mini

For those who want modern performance in a smaller package, the iPhone 13 mini might be the perfect mobile phone. Apple dropped the iPhone 13 mini in late 2021 in a break from the massive phones it and other manufacturers have been releasing recently. This device’s 5.4-inch display is significantly smaller than the other iPhone 13 models available, which makes it easier to hold in one hand.

This phone has nearly the same features as the iPhone 13, just in a smaller size. Its A15 Bionic chip provides optimal performance, and its battery life should give you a little more than a day of audio and video streaming per charge. It has dual rear cameras with a wide and ultra-wide lens. Storage for this phone only goes up to 512GB, which is still enough space to store your photos and videos. You can find this phone for around $540.

4. iPhone 13

The iPhone 13 series has some of the best phones you can buy from Apple today, right down to the regular iPhone 13. This smartphone lacks some of the upgrades Apple made to the mini, Pro and Pro Max models, but that means you can find it for cheaper. Some retailers may offer the iPhone 13 for around $600, which is still one of the best phones you can get for less than $1,000.

The iPhone 13 has a display measuring 6.1 inches with superb color accuracy and image sharpness. This device also offers the processing speed and battery life of the iPhone 13 Mini. Camera quality is another similarity — the iPhone 13 has two 12MP rear cameras and a selfie camera with the same resolution. Users can choose from 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options for their storage needs.

5. iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is still a mighty device even though it has been supplanted by the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. This smartphone runs on the A14 Bionic chip processor, giving it faster downloading and streaming than nearly every other phone on the market. The iPhone 12 Pro Max also offers great cameras, including 12MP wide, telephoto and ultra-wide lenses. Night Mode and optical zoom make this camera setup pretty impressive.

This phone has one of the largest displays on this list, coming in at 6.7 inches. Compared to the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s battery is larger. Users might opt for the largest 512GB storage option if they need lots of space for photos, videos and other media. You can find the iPhone 12 Pro Max for as low as $750.

6. iPhone 12 Pro

If you want much of the functionality of the iPhone 12 Pro Max without the higher price tag, the iPhone 12 Pro is an excellent option. Since it has fewer advanced features than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, an iPhone 12 Pro can sell for around $465. Yet this phone shares several specs with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, including its processor chip, four-camera setup, 5G connectivity and 6GB of memory.

The iPhone 12 Pro has a slightly smaller battery, which translates to nearly two hours of battery life less than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This may not be a significant concern for many users, especially for the price point. And despite the iPhone 12 Pro’s smaller 6.1-inch display, display resolution and quality are on par with the Pro Max model.

7. iPhone 11 Pro Max

Apple released the iPhone 11 Pro Max in 2019, but it’s still one of the best phones under $1,000 despite its older release date. This smartphone uses the A13 Bionic chip and is faster than many other devices. The camera quality is comparable to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, with triple 12MP rear cameras that’ll give you great-looking pictures.

Although the iPhone 11 Pro Max only has 4GB of memory, you can get up to 512GB of internal storage. The iPhone 11 Pro Max was also Apple’s last phone with a 64GB model, so if you don’t need to store a lot, you can save a ton of money. This device has a 6.5-inch display and gently rounded edges, which differ from the flat edges Apple used in the iPhone 12 and 13 series models.

8. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

If you’re not an Apple fan, you can also get several high-quality Samsung Galaxy devices for less than $1,000. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra may be the best Android phone you can buy in this price range. This stylus phone has a large 6.8-inch display, perfect for taking handwritten notes and watching videos with amazing image quality. Galaxy S22 Ultras come with up to 1TB of storage to keep your stuff.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has truly great cameras, with four rear cameras that make it easier to take high-quality photos at a distance. The main camera has a 108MP resolution wide lens for even sharper images. You’ll also have a great experience with the stylus, which works more seamlessly than Samsung’s previous stylus pens. With a speedy processor and 5G connectivity, the Galaxy S22 Ultra provides all the speed you’ll need — and then some.

9. Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is a great Android phone for under $1,000 and offers a fantastic experience without the high price tag of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This phone runs on the newest Android operating system and uses the same processor as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The triple-camera system with telephoto, wide and ultra-wide lenses provides enhanced image quality, and the main camera has a 50MP resolution.

The Galaxy S22 Plus has a smaller battery than the S22 Ultra but still delivers excellent performance. The Galaxy S22 Plus also has a slightly smaller 6.6-inch display, though a screen of this size is still relatively large. You can pick between 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. This phone more than holds its own against newer Galaxy phones.

10. Samsung Galaxy S22

The Samsung Galaxy S22’s Android 12 operating system and robust Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor give it the speed and power of its other Galaxy S22 cousins. This device also has great cameras, with wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses in the triple-camera setup that enable object erasing and enhanced night photos. You can find the Samsung Galaxy S22 for around $530, and considering its functionality, it may be worth the few downgrades.

This device doesn’t include fast charging capabilities and has a 6.1-inch display, making it smaller than many of the phones under $1,000 on this list. Some might prefer this phone’s rounded edges to the flat edges many newer devices feature.

11. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G

If you want a high-tech stylus phone without the price tag of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, this device might be the one for you. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G has great cameras, 5G connectivity and a battery that doesn’t quit. When you can get this phone for nearly half the price of the more advanced Galaxy S22 Ultra, it’s certainly an appealing option.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G has a 6.8-inch display, making it more of a two-handed phone. The dual telephoto lenses in its rear camera setup offer intense zooming capabilities, and the 40MP front camera enables better selfies. Users also get the stylus, though its functions may not be as smooth as the stylus for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

12 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G

Foldable phones are gaining a bit more popularity, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G lets you try out the trend without spending a fortune. This device might be one of the best cheap phones under $1,000, with dual displays that feature a fast refresh rate and 256GB of internal storage.

Although the cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G have the standard 12MP resolution, this phone stands out in other ways. This hefty device weighs 271 grams and features a 7.6-inch internal display size and a 6.2-inch external display. It includes a sizable battery that will last all day on a single charge. 5G connectivity and stylus support round off this phone’s specs.

13. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G builds off the Galaxy Note 10 series to offer improved handwriting recognition and stylus performance in a phone designed for notetaking. This device also features a large 6.9-inch display, the largest display of all the non-foldable phones on this list.

If you have ever been added to a text message group chat you didn’t want to be a part of, you understand how annoying or overwhelming they can be. As an iPhone user, it matters to know how to deal with and stop unnecessary messages before they take over your notifications.

Knowing how to manage your device can keep your information protected and cut back on unwarranted contact with your number. Leaving an iPhone group text is a tool for taking control of your smartphone and becoming a savvier tech owner. Remember that your options will vary depending on your iOS version and if everyone in the group is using an Apple device.

Learn how to leave a group chat in iMessage with these quick how-tos.

How to Leave iPhone Group Text Messages

Our phones are always sending us unnecessary notifications. For those who frequently participate in group texts, you can receive dozens of messages in a matter of minutes.

There are reasons you might want to leave an iMessage group chat, like:

You do not know any of the contacts in the message.

The group is spam.

You’re receiving too many notifications.

Someone accidentally added you to the group.

The group includes potential scammers.

You cannot make an event people are coordinating in the chat.

The chat is negative or hostile.

You are simply uninterested in the messages.

Whatever your reason for wanting to exit the group, there’s an answer to save yourself from the stress of being in a multiple-person message thread. The following steps will teach you how to leave an iPhone group chat.

Before You Start: Important Limitations to Know

Before talking about the steps, there are a few important restrictions to be aware of:

All participants must be on Apple devices. If the group chat contains a mix of blue (iMessage) and green (SMS/Android) bubbles, there is no official Apple-supported way to leave the conversation.

You need at least 3 other people in the thread to have the option to leave.

SMS group chats have a 20-participant limit, a restriction imposed by carriers.

On iOS 17 and later, you have the added option to delete and block an entire group MMS message. If you block a group chat and receive no new messages for 30 days, it will be permanently deleted from your iPhone.

1. Open the Messages App

To exit a group chat, start by opening your iPhone’s home screen. Locate the Messages app. Once you have found and selected the app, find the conversation you wish to leave.

2. Locate the Group Chat

When you launch the app, find the group chat in your recent messages. Select it to open the conversation.

You can also search for the group chat by typing in a contact name or number included in the message. You’ll find the search bar at the top of the main screen on the Messages app.

3. Tap on the Group Icons

When the group chat is open, you’ll see a row of contact icons at the top center of the screen. Tap these icons to open an info window about the conversation. Be extra careful on this screen, as there are options for the following with the group:

Call

FaceTime

Share your location

If there are strangers in the text message, you likely don’t want to contact or share information with them.

4. Scroll on This Screen

Once you have the info screen open, scroll through the options. At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a button that reads “Leave this Conversation” in red.

5. Choose “Leave this Conversation”

Tap the “Leave this Conversation” option. A confirmation prompt will pop up from the bottom of your iPhone screen asking you to verify that you wish to leave the conversation.

Tap the red “Leave this Conversation” button again to confirm.

6. Confirm

After confirming, you’ll return to the info screen. The “Leave this Conversation” button will now appear grayed out. Select “Done” in the upper right corner.

This takes you back to your messages. At the very bottom of the conversation, you’ll see the message “You left the conversation” with a timestamp, confirming you are no longer active in the conversation. You can still go back and read previously sent messages after leaving.

What If You Can’t Leave the Group Chat?

If the “Leave this Conversation” button is missing or grayed out, it’s most likely because the group includes at least one Android user or uses SMS, which results in mixed green and blue bubbles. In this case, there’s no official Apple-supported way to leave. Your best alternatives are:

Mute the conversation by swiping left on the chat and selecting “Hide Alerts” to silence notifications.

On iOS 17 or later, use the option to delete and block the group MMS to stop receiving messages entirely. If no new messages come in for 30 days after blocking, the chat will be permanently deleted from your device.

Here are some key things to know about leaving iPhone group chats:

On iOS 14 or earlier, you must tap the Info button first, then “Leave this Conversation.” You can only leave if there are at least 3 other people in the thread and everyone is using an Apple device.

In iOS 17 and later, you can delete and block an entire group MMS message.

There is a 20-participant limit for SMS group chats on iPhone, a restriction imposed by the carrier.

If you block a group chat and don’t receive any new messages over a 30-day period, the group chat will be permanently deleted from your iPhone.

With iOS 16 and later, you can use Messages to collaborate on a project with others. If you run into issues, check out our guide to common iOS 16 problems and how to fix them.

There is no official Apple-supported way to leave a group chat when there are mixed blue (iMessage) and green (Android/SMS) message bubbles.

How to Leave Group Chats With iPhone and Android Users

While leaving an iMessage group chat is pretty easy, you might run into some issues if the group includes Android users. If the person who started the conversation uses a contact with an Android phone, the option to leave the conversation will not be available. There is no official Apple-supported way to leave a group chat when there’s mixed blue (iMessage) and green (Android/SMS) message bubbles. The process will be different from how you leave an iPhone-only group chat.

Instead of removing your number from the conversation, your best option is to hide notifications. However, if you are on iOS 17 or later, you also have the ability to delete and block the entire group MMS message thread.

How to Mute Group Chat Conversations

If you can’t leave a conversation, you can mute it with these steps:

Open the Messages app: Open your iPhone home screen. From here, find the Messages app. Once you launch it, find the group chat you wish to mute.

Locate the group chat: Locate the group chat by scrolling through your recent texts. You could also opt to use the app’s search bar. Once you find the chat, tap it to open the messages. If you’ve engaged in the group chat and your sent text messages were blue, this is an iMessage group chat, and you can follow the previous instructions to leave the chat. If your sent messages are green, continue with these steps.

Tap the group icons: When you have the group chat messages in front of you, find the icons at the top center of your screen. After you tap these icons, a pop-up with multiple options will appear on your screen. Carefully navigate this screen, as there are buttons for making calls and sharing your location. If there are strangers in the group chat, it is important not to contact or share personal information.

Scroll to “Hide Alerts”: Once you have successfully opened the info screen by tapping on the group icons, scroll down to the option that says, “Hide Alerts.” Note that the “Leave this Conversation” button will be gray and unavailable for group chats that include Android users.

Toggle the bar to “On” setting: Once you’ve located the “Hide Alerts” option, toggle the bar to the “On” setting. Once you do this correctly, the toggle bar should be green. Your device will continue receiving the messages, but you will no longer receive notifications from the group chat.

How to Delete and Block a Mixed Group Chat (iOS 17 and Later)

If you are running iOS 17 or later, you have an extra option. Rather than simply muting the conversation, you can delete and block the entire group MMS thread — a stronger measure that prevents new messages from coming through. Remember that if you block the group chat and don’t receive any new messages over a 30-day period, the group chat will be permanently deleted from your iPhone.

To do this, swipe left on the group conversation in your Messages list, tap Delete, and follow the prompt to also block the thread. This will not notify other participants, but it does mean you’ll no longer receive any messages from that group. If you’re considering switching from Android to iOS, moving everyone to iMessage can help avoid these mixed-chat limitations altogether.

There is no official Apple-supported way to leave a group chat when there are mixed blue (iMessage) and green (Android/SMS) message bubbles.

There are many reasons you might want to block a number on an iPhone. Whether you’re dealing with persistent telemarketers, spam calls, or other privacy problems, knowing how to block unwanted contacts is a tool for keeping your personal information protected and cutting back on unnecessary interruptions.

iPhone users should take advantage of the built-in blocking features available across multiple apps. Blocking can be done from five different sources, and it gives you plenty of flexibility depending on where the unwanted contact is coming from. You can also use Apple’s built-in Silence Unknown Callers feature, carrier-level spam blocking through providers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, or third-party call-blocking apps for extra protection.

A few things worth knowing before you get started: Apple does not impose a limit on how many numbers you can block, which means you can block hundreds or thousands of contacts without any problems. According to Apple Support, blocked callers can still leave a voicemail, but they will receive no notification that they have been blocked. Any voicemails left by blocked contacts will appear in a separate “Blocked Messages” section at the bottom of the Voicemail tab in the Phone app.

How to Block a Number From Contacting You on an iPhone

Through blocking a number, you can prevent that particular number from contacting your device via the following:

Phone calls: When the blocked contact tries to call your number, the device will direct their call to voicemail, but you will not receive any notifications. The blocked caller can still leave a voicemail, but it will appear in a separate “Blocked Messages” section at the bottom of the Voicemail tab – and the blocked contact receives no notification that they were blocked.

FaceTime calls: FaceTime calls from blocked numbers will not register on your device.

Messages: Messages from blocked callers will never be delivered to your iPhone and will not appear on your device.

Spam calls and robocalls remain a problem for Americans, with billions of nuisance calls placed every year. The following are instructions for stopping unwelcome contact through the three main communication applications on your device. These steps have been verified on iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 17 and iOS 18.

How to Block Phone Calls

Block a phone number on your iPhone with these steps:

Open the phone app: Open your home screen. From here, select the Phone app.

Find the caller’s name or phone number: When you have your recent call log in front of you, find the caller’s name or number that you wish to block. After locating it, carefully take the next step to avoid accidentally initiating a call with the number.

Click the “i” icon: Next to the call in the log, you will find an “i” icon indicating more information. By clicking the “i,” you come to a screen with that contact’s details on it. Scroll to the very bottom of the page.

Choose “Block this Caller”: The final option on this screen is “Block this Caller.” When you tap this button, a small pop-up will appear on the bottom of your screen.

Confirm: Once you select “Block this Caller,” the pop-up will read, “You will not receive phone calls, messages, or FaceTime from people on the block list.” Confirm that you want to block the number by hitting “Block Contact.”

Once you’ve followed these steps, this phone number will be unable to reach your device unless you make changes to your blocked list. Remember that Apple does not impose a limit on how many numbers you can block – you can block hundreds or thousands of numbers without any problems. Remember that the same user could still contact you through a different number or alternative communication strategy.

How to Block FaceTime Calls

Prevent unwanted FaceTime calls with these steps:

Open the FaceTime app: If you wish to block a number that keeps calling you on FaceTime, start by opening the FaceTime app on your home screen or app library. When you launch the app, you will see a list of your most recent calls.

Locate the call: Locate the call from the number of the person you wish to block. Again, carefully sort through this log, so you do not accidentally call the unwanted contact.

Find the “i” icon or contact details: When you find the call on your log, click the “i” icon on the right. The “i” icon will take you to a screen with the contact’s information on it. Scroll to the very bottom of the page.

Choose “Block this Caller”: The last option on this screen will say “Block this Caller.” When you click this button, your device will ask you to confirm the action with a small pop-up on the bottom of your screen.

Confirm: The pop-up will once again notify you that “You will not receive phone calls, messages, or FaceTime from people on the block list.” Once you confirm by hitting the red “Block Contact” button, the number will be unable to reach you through FaceTime on your device.

How to Block Messages

Block unwanted texts through your Messages app with the following steps:

Open the Messages app: When you wish to block a number from messaging you on your iPhone, first locate the Messages app on your home screen.

Find the message: Once you’ve found the message in your log, click it to open the messages between you and the unwanted number.

Tap the number or photo: While on the messages screen, click on the number or photo at the top center. This will cause a pop-up with additional options on it.

Click “Info”: Find the “info” button on this pop-up, and you will come to a new screen with even more options. At the very bottom, a red button says, “Block this Caller.”

Choose “Block this Caller”: Once you’ve clicked “Block this Caller,” you will see another small pop-up at the bottom of the screen reading, “You will not receive phone calls, messages, or FaceTime from people on the block list.”

Confirm: Confirm that you want to block the number by clicking on the red “Block Contact” button. This number will no longer be able to reach your iPhone through your Messages app.

How to Manage Blocked Contacts

Once you’ve successfully blocked a number, you can access and manage your full blocked list through your iPhone Settings. Take the following steps to manage your blocked contacts:

Find Settings on the iPhone home screen: Open your iPhone to the home screen. Locate the Settings app and tap on it.

Select the Phone app: Once inside Settings, scroll down until you see the Phone option. Select it.

Choose “Blocked Contacts”: On the Phone screen, scroll through the available options until you see “Blocked Contacts” and tap it.

Manage blocked contacts: On the “Blocked Contacts” page, you will see every number you’ve blocked from reaching your device. There is no limit to how many numbers you can block – Apple allows you to block hundreds or even thousands of contacts without any issues. If you want to unblock a specific number, tap “Edit” in the top corner and select the red circle beside the contact. This will give you the option to unblock the number.

It’s worth mentioning a few things about how blocked contacts work on iPhone. A blocked caller can still leave you a voicemail, but they will receive no notification that they’ve been blocked. Any voicemails left by blocked contacts won’t appear in your standard voicemail inbox – instead they are stored in a separate “Blocked Messages” section found at the bottom of the Voicemail tab in the Phone app. If you ever need to recover a deleted voicemail from a blocked contact, there are steps you can take to retrieve it.

Today’s date is April 10, 2026 and here are some recent findings on this topic just so you get your facts straight:

The DevX mobile testing team tested every call-blocking method on iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15, iPhone 14, and iPhone SE (3rd gen) running iOS 18 and iOS 17.

They verified blocking from 5 sources: the Phone app, Messages app, FaceTime, Settings, and Contacts – and also tested Silence Unknown Callers, carrier spam blocking (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon), and third-party apps.

Apple does not impose a specific limit on blocked numbers – you can block hundreds or thousands without issues.

Per Apple Support: blocked callers can still leave a voicemail, but the blocked contact receives no notification that they were blocked. You can also set up call forwarding on your iPhone as an alternative way to manage unwanted calls.

Blocked voicemails appear in a separate “Blocked Messages” section at the bottom of the Voicemail tab in the Phone app. If you’re also dealing with unwanted calendar invites, check out how to stop iPhone calendar spam for additional peace of mind.

If you’re like most people, much of your life is documented and stored on your mobile device. Between apps, photos, videos, contacts, documents and downloads, switching to a new iPhone means moving a large amount of data – and you don’t want to lose any of it in the process. Fortunately, Apple officially supports three fast and reliable methods to move data from one iPhone to another: Quick Start (device-to-device move), iCloud backup, and a computer backup via the Apple Devices app, iTunes, or Finder — and each strategy has its own requirements worth learning about before you get started.

What You Need to Start

You have to take a few steps before transferring photos or contacts from iPhone to iPhone:

Unpair any devices: Unpair any devices connected to your current iPhone, like an Apple Watch, AirPods, or other accessories.

Back up your data: Once you’re finished using your current device and don’t plan to save any more files or contacts to the system, back up the data you want to keep. You can do this via iCloud, or by connecting your phone to a Mac or PC and creating a backup through Finder (Mac) or the Apple Devices app (Windows). Make sure you name the backup file something easy to identify and note the date you created it.

Know your account information: Make a note of all relevant login information, including your current device’s passcode, your Apple ID, and your Apple account password.

Check your iOS version: If you plan to use Apple’s Quick Start feature to transfer data directly between devices, your existing iPhone must be running iOS 11 or later. Quick Start lets your new iPhone automatically copy settings and data from your old one wirelessly or via a wired connection.

Have the right cable ready: If you prefer a wired transfer, the cable you need depends on your devices. Transferring from an iPhone 14 or earlier to an iPhone 15 or later requires a USB-C to Lightning cable. Transferring between two iPhone 14 or earlier devices requires a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a Lightning to USB Cable, along with a 12W or higher power adapter.

Transfer the SIM card: Remove and transfer the SIM card from your old device to your new one, if applicable. Many newer iPhones support eSIM, so you may be able to transfer your carrier plan digitally instead.

Using Quick Start

Most iPhones have Quick Start, a built-in feature that makes it easier to move data between existing devices. Quick Start requires iOS 11 or later on your existing device and uses your Apple ID and settings to restore content from a saved backup for easy wireless transfer. Let’s talk about how it works:

Turn your iPhone on and make sure Bluetooth is enabled.

Place your current and new devices close to one another.

Wait for the Quick Start screen to appear on your new phone.

Set up your new phone using the correct Apple ID and login information.

Select “Continue,” then wait for the animation to display.

Hold your existing device over the new phone and center the animation in your current phone’s viewfinder.

Wait for the phones to communicate and watch for a popup message saying “Finish on New [Device].” Select “Authenticate Manually” if your camera is broken or the viewfinder is inaccessible.

Enter your current iPhone passcode on your new device if asked.

Follow the listed steps to set up Face ID, Touch ID or both, depending on the model.

Input your Apple ID and password on your new phone when prompted.

Your new iPhone will now give you a choice between transferring data directly from one phone to another or restoring apps, data and settings from the most recent backup file saved to your connected iCloud account. Tap “Other Options” if you want to restore from a backup on your computer manually.

Select your backup option and settings preferences, then wait for the process to complete.

Device-to-Device Migration

iPhones running iOS 12.4 and later support device-to-device migration built into Quick Start, which lets you move data directly from your old iPhone to your new one without relying on a backup. The steps follow the above process, with deviations:

Turn your new iPhone on and set it near your existing device.

Enable Bluetooth on your current phone.

Wait for the Quick Start screen to appear on your existing phone’s screen, then use your Apple ID to set up your new device.

Select “Continue” and wait for the animation to appear on your new phone’s screen.

Hold your existing phone over your new iPhone until the animation is centered in the viewfinder.

Wait for a message to pop up on the screen that says, “Finish on New [Device].” Select “Authenticate Manually” if your camera is inaccessible.

Follow steps as prompted.

Enter your passcode on your new iPhone and follow on-screen instructions to set up Face ID or Touch ID.

Tap “Transfer from [Device]” to start the transfer process from your existing phone.

If connecting your devices via a wired connection, the cable you’ll need depends on your iPhone models. To transfer between two iPhone 14 or earlier devices, use a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a Lightning to USB Cable, and connect a 12W or higher power adapter during the transfer. To transfer from an iPhone 14 or earlier to an iPhone 15 or later, use a USB-C to Lightning Cable. Follow the same on-screen steps once the transfer icon appears.

Choose which settings to transfer from your previous phone to your new one.

Keep the devices close to one another while the transfer processes and plug them in if the battery starts to run low. Transfer times vary depending on the type of connection, network quality and how much data you’re transferring.

Transferring Data From an iPhone to iPhone

Apple officially supports three ways to move data between iPhones: Quick Start (device-to-device), iCloud backup, and a computer backup via Finder, iTunes, or the Apple Devices app. Let’s talk about how each strategy works.

How to Transfer Data Using an iCloud Backup

iCloud makes it easy to save backups of your system and its files to move them faster to a new device. Follow these steps:

On your current device, go to “Settings,” tap your name, then select “iCloud” and tap “iCloud Backup.”

Tap “Back Up Now” when you’re ready to transfer to your new phone.

Turn your old iPhone off, remove the SIM card and place it in the new device if applicable.

Turn on the new device and go through the setup process for connecting to Wi-Fi and signing in where necessary.

Follow all on-screen prompts until you reach the “Apps & Data” screen.

Tap “Restore from iCloud Backup” and sign in to your iCloud account.

Choose the correct backup file and wait for the transfer to finish.

Restore apps and purchases by signing in with your Apple ID – you may need to log in multiple times if you used more than one account to download apps or content. You can save this step for later, but you will not be able to use those apps until you’ve signed in to the appropriate accounts.

Stay connected to Wi-Fi while the progress bar finishes. The process could take an hour or longer depending on your data and network speed. Many apps and services may continue updating in the background over the following days.

How to Transfer Data Using a Computer

You can move data via a PC or Mac with Finder, iTunes, or the Apple Devices app. Use a USB cable to connect your iPhone to the computer, then follow these steps:

Enter your passcode and follow any on-screen prompts on your iPhone and computer.

Open Finder (macOS Catalina or later), iTunes (Windows or older macOS), or the Apple Devices app (Windows).

Select your iPhone when it appears in the sidebar or device list.

Select “Restore Backup.”

Check the list of available backup files for the most recent or relevant one, then click “Restore.”

Wait while the restore finishes and enter a password if prompted. The device may restart multiple times. Do not disconnect anything until the sync process completes.

A Note on Wired Device-to-Device Migration

If you want to move data directly between two iPhones using a wired connection instead of relying on Wi-Fi, the cable you need can depend on the models you’re using:

iPhone 14 or earlier to iPhone 15 or later: Use a USB-C to Lightning Cable to connect the two devices directly.

Two iPhone 14 or earlier devices: You’ll need a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a Lightning to USB Cable. Apple also recommends using a 12W or higher power adapter during this type of transfer.

Remember that Quick Start, which starts the device-to-device migration process, requires iOS 11 or later on your existing device. If you’re switching from Android instead, check out our guide on how to transfer from Android to iOS.

How to Transfer iPhone to iPhone – After Setup

Once the move is complete, make sure that you sign out of all accounts on your old iPhone and delete any personal information or data left behind. Remove any accessories – like Bluetooth connections and cases – and factory reset the device to make it ready for resale, recycling, or trade-in. Try to keep the phone charged throughout this process.

Complete the following on your new iPhone:

Test apps and contacts: Launch all critical apps, like your email, contacts, and calendar, and make sure all the data has downloaded and transferred. Enable notifications for important apps and reset your permissions if necessary.

Verify settings: View and adjust your lock screen and update settings as needed. Make sure your PIN or passcode has transferred, and consider updating it for added security.

Redownload content: Redownload any content that didn’t make the transfer, like podcasts or music. You’ll need to sign in to your Media and Purchases settings with the same Apple ID you used for those original purchases.

Pair accessories: Pair your iPhone with accessories by turning on Bluetooth and putting your accessories in discovery mode until they connect. This is also a good time to enter your card information into Apple Pay and make any last-minute adjustments to your new iPhone.

Transferring your pictures and contacts from your old iPhone to your new device is easy, with Apple officially supporting three methods: Quick Start (device-to-device), iCloud backup, and a computer backup via the Apple Devices app, iTunes, or Finder. Quick Start requires iOS 11 or later on your existing device and makes the process even faster by automatically setting up your new iPhone. For wired transfers, the cable you’ll need can depend on your devices – migrating from an iPhone 14 or earlier to an iPhone 15 or later requires a USB-C to Lightning Cable. But transferring between two iPhone 14 or earlier devices requires a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, a Lightning to USB Cable, and a 12W or higher power adapter.

Even brand new smartphones have occasional performance glitches, like sluggish speeds or unexpected app crashes. When your iPhone becomes unresponsive, you might not be able to restart it with the traditional power button method, prompting a forced restart. Force restarting your device may improve your iPhone’s performance, but the process varies between models.

Learn more about what causes spotty smartphone performance and what to do when you need to restart your iPhone.

Signs You Need to Restart Your iPhone

Every smartphone comes with a specific amount of RAM space available. As you open and use a new app, your RAM stores it and all of its information on your phone for quick access instead of closing the app each time you move to a new one. The more RAM a device has, the more app information it can store at once, and the faster and more efficient your phone operates overall.

As you open multiple apps and the RAM tries to sort itself out, performance might start to slow down or cause glitches, such as:

Apps are freezing or crashing: If you open an Apple app or third-party app and it immediately closes, crashes or starts glitching, it could mean that your RAM needs clearing to make space for the app’s information. Force restart the device and try reopening the app again. If that doesn’t work, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the app to see if it improves performance.

Lagging or sluggish performance: Lagging and sluggish smartphone performance makes it difficult to play mobile games, send text messages, browse the web, use GPS navigation and stream video content. A forced restart may help boost performance and increase overall speed.

It gets stuck during startup: Sometimes smartphones can get stuck in a startup loop, where you power the device on, and it never moves past the startup logo screen. A force restart will help kick the device out of this cycle.

The screen is black or unresponsive: If your screen is glitching, such as a skipping, stalling or a frozen display and unresponsive touchscreen, a force restart will help you access your apps and use your screen again.

To remedy problems like these, it takes more than manually closing your apps when you finish using them — you need to periodically restart your device to clear the RAM entirely to give it a fresh start to boost speeds and improve performance. Manual restarts and forced restarts are a critical part of managing your device.

How to Restart an iPhone

There is no set frequency for how often you should restart your device to keep things running smoothly. Some device owners restart their phone daily, weekly or monthly — whatever works best for you and your smartphone. Consider setting a calendar reminder on your device to help you remember when to restart it at regular intervals and hopefully avoid any performance issues.

If you’re unable to restart your phone with the traditional method — pressing and holding the power button down — you might need to force restart the device. How to force restart your iPhone depends on which model you own.

iPhone X, 11 or 12

Apple’s most recent releases, the iPhone X, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 lineups, do not have a home button, which changes the force restart process compared to earlier models. This leaves two force restart methods — a touchscreen-only option and a button option.

The touchscreen-only method involves:

Navigate to the “Settings” app from your home screen or application library.

Select “General” settings.

Click and slide the “Shut Down” bar at the bottom of the General Settings menu until your device powers down.

Restart your phone by clicking the power button.

The second method is a good option if your touchscreen is inaccessible due to damage or unresponsiveness:

Press and hold the “Volume Down” button while simultaneously pressing and holding the side, or Siri, button.

Continue holding until the device outputs a haptic vibration and the “Shut Down” slider bar — in addition to medical and emergency alert buttons — appears on the screen.

Slide the power button to the right to power the device down.

Restart the phone by pushing the side button again.

iPhone 6, 7 or 8

If you own an iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone 8 or any of their partner releases — like theiPhone 6 Plus or the iPhone 8 Plus — the force restart process is slightly different, depending on the device.

To force restart an iPhone 6, simply press and hold the home button and the top or side button — depending on your model — until the phone restarts itself.

For the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, follow these steps:

Quick-press the “Volume Up” button.

Quick-press the “Volume Down” button.

Press and hold the side button until the logo appears.

Some models might also require pressing and holding the top or side button while simultaneously pressing the “Volume Down” button.

iPhone 5 and Earlier

For the iPhone 3G, simply press and hold the power button and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 have the same force restart process. When these devices were released, it was around the same time smartphones stopped including removable batteries accessible through the back of the phone, which was often the go-to method for forcing a quick restart.

If you have one of these phones, initiating the force restart to combat lagging performance or other glitches is simple. Follow these steps to restart an iPhone 5 or earlier:

Press and hold the power button and home button at the same time.

Wait until the Apple logo appears on the screen, meaning the device has restarted.

Buy and Sell Smartphones With Gazelle

When your phone is running slowly, apps are crashing or you’re encountering performance glitches, a force restart might be necessary to reset the device’s RAM and free up memory space. If you find yourself force restarting your device more often than before or need to initiate a force restart for your phone to operate correctly, it might be time for a new device.

Great news — Gazelle can help! Gazelle makes it simple to buy and sell gently used and refurbished devices, each one certified for quality and performance.
